  • It seems as thought the version of TuneIn that I have saves as something other than .wav files. Any idea what they are so that I can try to import/convert on my mac?

  • i have an iphone 3g, and am thinking about getting the 4s.. is it possible to transfer all data (including saved tunein recordings) onto the new iphone?? please help and reply to my post.. thank you!!

  • Any new ways? Waiting........

  • doenst get the folders up....

  • Any new ways?

  • The trick dosent work anymore. Its working on a older versions of Tunein app. So there is no alternative option for now.

  • @fernando1magelan i have been doing this for months and now it won't work!! ahhh- i should have never upgraded. anyone have a way around it?

  • @fernando1magelan Interestingly everything that was recorded prior to Feb 1 still converts to .wav. Everything after is a useless file (because I don't know what kind of encoding it has). Please someone help!!

  • @dukejen04 Have you discovered the encoding type yet?

  • @ilandgeek i tried to play it after changing extension to wav., and i even tried playing the converted file to mp3 but it gave me this message instead, "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."

What codec should I download to make this work? Thank you!

  • Thank you and "gesundheit" :-)

  • It works! Thx a lot.

  • It doesnot work on jailbroken ipod touch? IT says windows media player cant play the file..help please!

  • Windows media player cannot play the file

  • I found the "Raw File System" folder, but there is no "Private" folder inside. I don't know what to do. I really need to convert this recording!

  • Thanks it works, some recordings you can't convert. Depends of a station.

  • When I change it to .wav it doesn't play. :/

  • Blow your nose.

  • When I go to Raw File System, I cannot find a folder named private. Any ideas? Is it hidden, or is it just non existent on my ipodtouch? Any help appreciated.

  • Anyway to do this WITHOUT jail breaking your iPad?

  • @FORCENSX IKR?

  • Thanks for the help!

Btw, I have to make an important remark that is going to save everyone a lot of time - i'm using the newest version of TuneIn and the file i recorded turned out to be mp3 by default. I mean that i tried to open it with winamp, without renaming the file extension and it worked. It also showed that it is Mpeg-1 Layer 3, basically mp3. So, you don't need to convert the file but just rename it to mp3 for easier useafter :)

Anyway, i'm not sure if it depends on the stream type...

  • @Chr1sSm2rt thanks. :)

  • @Chr1sSm2rt thanks!

  • @Chr1sSm2rt

Shouldnt depend on the stream type. But renaming the file to .mp3, .mp4, .aac, or whatever aint working. So dont really know how the hell that worked for u....

  • @fernando1magelan Use v2.2, it's the last one that works for my way.

  • @Chr1sSm2rt what version are you using?, I updated mine few days ago and now i can't find an mp3 file and i am so pissed

  • @mbe1ge Check my last comment. You won't find an mp3 file directly, as it is shown in the video. The files are recorded as xxxxxx.0, xxxxxx.1, xxxxxx.2 and s.o. and you have to rename the file extension.

  • Ok, so the other day i did a lot of experimenting and came to the following conclusion:

    1. The only version of TuneIn radio that you can use to directly rename the file extension to .mp3 is v2.2!!!! This only works for mp3 streams, because...

    2. ...when the stream is wma, the recorded files have a separate header, which i didn't find a way to merge with the music file. i haven't tried recording aac streams;

    3. Newer versions of the program than the aforementioned v2.2 add an encryption and...

  • ...it's not possible to get a working audio file at all, no matter how you rename the file extension

So, use the method described in the video up to the place where, instead of renaming to wav and then converting to mp3, just rename the file ext to .mp3. The best way to see if you have a working audio file is to directly play it in Winamp. If it plays without renaming the extension, just add .mp3 to it.

Hope i was helpful guys, good luck!

  • @Chr1sSm2rt I see... and so far no way to un-encrypt it, then. That's a bummer. If things change, post us all. Thanks for a definitive answer.

  • Thank you!!!!

  • How do to jail break your IPad/iPhone along with this video would be a tremendous help : )

  • But how can you merge all the files together. Plus Switch Sound didn't work for me. All the files it converted to have no audio. Your demo sucks.

  • @austinarchibald

this really works and isn't for newbees. switch soft didnt work because you dont know how to use it.

  • It doesn't work if you have a jailed (locked) device. I can't see any "private" folder when I connect with i-FunBox.

  • Thank you very nice.

  • The files were recorded before I jailbroke my device but I copied them once broken. I use a Mac so used a different technique to access the folder. Then placed all the files on my hard drive. I've got a load more since then of course.

  • Previously I found that only a file under 5 minutes would play. This led me to wonder if the multi-part files need to be joined. However as anyone got a multi-part file to play. How about emulating tuneinradio on a Mac, using a iphone developer tool. Then it could be possible to record the sound digitally within the computer. The alternative is to join the multi-part files if that's the answer but I'm not even sure that is.

  • Thank you for your sharing

  • I just discovered that it works for some radio stations and not others!!!!! Strange!

  • @fdunlop1973 ok. proly a certain encrytion on the file when its saved i dont know. can you play the ones that dont work through the iphone?

  • not working for me either, change the file to blah.wav and it will not play. My phone is jailbroken. Any help appreciated.

  • @fdunlop1973 i honestly not sure what to help you with... no other method has worked and mine still works... are you using i funbox? and are you copy it over and not trying to move it?

  • @fdunlop1973 i think it has to unlocked aswell as jailbroken

  • @fdunlop1973 did the file type asked to be changed

  • @fdunlop1973 Use v2.2

  • Thumbs up if you like the Crysis Background!!!

  • Thank for your video ilandgeek. It seems to be working with other people, but I can't locate private/var folder on my device.. Do you have any idea how I can fix this problem? Thanks in advance!!!

  • I found one problem why files become corrupted. After you rename file and change format to wav you trying to convert it to mp3 format by Switch Sound program. I did the same and files was corrupted some files was ok but just two from hundred. I change program to another and it works. i tryed Total Video Converter. Try do not use beta versions. Cheers.

  • On the Mac or in linux, if you've a jailbroken iDevice and have ssh, you can ssh into it and find TuneIn's location with 'find / -iname 'tunein*' -type d'. Then use scp to copy it over to your computer, like so: 'scp -pr root@idevicename:/path/to/the/recording destination/folder'

  • hiya mate it does work so am eternally grateful ;-) however if i have recorded using tune in radio before it was jail broken can those recordings be transferred?? i dnt think so ??? it doesnt work when i change to wav n load it in a player just says corrupt ??? did a quick recording when jailbroken it works

  • @stylezee12 im glad it did man. i honestly havent ever tried it when my phone wasnt jail broken, but i beleive that the corruption file happens when transfering it from the iphone to the computer. look up ssh non jailbroken devices and you might get thru

  • Works Perfectly 1000%.

  • @joshua12ka

     yip

  • ya i did everything... set it to a wav, but everytime i open it in wmp it says its not a recognized file type... and when i put it into any of my different music editing software it does the same

  • @DJChAoSisGoD

try changing it to wav and then use the switch sound to change it to mp3 and then try to play it

  • @DJChAoSisGoD you can try to go to control panel and see how to display your file extensions.. that maybe the problem the file is not changing

  • let me know if it doesnt work illl try other ways..

  • @ilandgeek ... i did everything you said to do ... at first i play the file exactly where you played the file. and it doesn't play. so i jus continued hoping that when i change it to mp3 it would be fine... now i went to file converter (same program yu recommended) and it says file could not be read. .... what now?

  • @Blazning ok. i think that your phone isnt jail broken..

  • The changing of file extension has got a problem. Can help us?

  • @yowadsup321 make sure you change the file extension to wav peform you import into swithc sound file converter to then convert to mp3. i havent tried anyother but its simple it should work. rename the whole file to rec1.wav and it should ask do you want to change this file and then hit yes

  • @ilandgeek i have tried the method that you have given me. However, it still does not work. I changed the format of the file to '.wav'. I cannot play on WMP or RealPlayer. I tried converting the file, it says it is 'specific source format could not be read'.

  • The video is cool and the steps easy to understand but it just didn't work with the extension change. Any other suggestions?

  • @valdostube make sure you change the file extension to wav peform you import into swithc sound file converter to then convert to mp3. i havent tried anyother but its simple it should work. rename the whole file to rec1.wav and it should ask do you want to change this file and then hit yes
