Becasue they were short on cash and in debt, the Who did a massive tour from 1975-76. They virtually toured all of europe and north america TWICE. They played small venues in madison , winnepegg, oregon, etc. The played oakland two days in the row .Plus, there performances were physically intense (just watch daltry, moon and townsend play). Townsend wrote from the heart and had much depth and innovation in his songs/performance, which today is uncommon if not nonexistant.
I disagree ! Back in the day , these guys toured their F-ing asses off and worked so damn much , rarely home ! Marital blisses and a lot of misery and loneliness ! Nothing like the creampuffs of today ! I just have too much respect for the " Who " to call any version " Shitty "
this is one of my favorite who songs....and it was barely ever played and its so awesome to have a live performance of it! U cant find that just like that!
I disagree. I can remember Noel Edmonds playing this on his Radio 1 Breakfast show (in 1970 whatever) when the Album first came out. Loved it ever since.
Reminds me of some of the tracks on the first LP of Quadrophenia such as the Punk and The Godfather and The Real Me.
Yeah, I suppose it may be for hard core fans, but it definitely stands up on its' own.
thanks for this...slip kid was only played live about 10 times...this is one of the rare recordings of it, albeit audience...you would have imagined it would have made a great live track, but it just didnt work for them..
check my version, this recording is sadly very mucky so its not that great, but still amazing to hear. the one i posted is a little more audible although there is a version with far superior sound quality to any ive heard (almost sounds like a soundboard) but its only available on a very rare compilation bootleg
any idea why they so rarely played it?

"I didn't think it would take us so long to make money." -- John Enwhistle, in an interview.
In my book: they deserve every dollar.

I remember buying bootlegs on records - in the 80s - from Zeppelin that sounded worse than this. And they cost about 50 €.

This song is a BI**H to play live, and not very popular amongst ordinary everyday WHO fans...definetely hard core fans only.
Good song though :)
