The whole idea of "global terror" is a brain-child of neoconservatives. I'm not going to say that it is as prevalent as when Bush W was in office, but it is still evident in our foreign policy and our social media. What about the extensions of the Patriot Act? The NDAA? The administration might have changed, but not the idea.

With the change of Iraq strategy from the Rumseld Doctrine (intervention = democracy) to population-centric COIN signifies a shift in national thinking. That the US would invade another country with the goal of spread democracy is a pipe dream today. The war on terror, PA, intrusive measures are the result of FEAR, and cannot be boiled down to the views/influence of a few people.

This is a very interesting documentary and, in its description of terrorist groups around the world, is pretty accurate. The term sleeper cell seems to be used to describe any small group of conspirators now days. Al Qaeda was never a "group" per se, like hezbollah or hamas. Many groups claim affiliation for name recognition for their cause, but have no real connection. Terror is a real threat, has been for decades, but not understood by most people. (including the gov and media)
