@zACHjACK77 thats hilarious u call this song that name, becuz i was introduced to this band and this song while working in a kitchen at a local restaurant
This song is just on another level. Listened them pretty much 5 years ago, then somehow stopped and turned to 60s psychedelic rock. Now I can see where they drove their inspiration from.
I just heard this song speeding down PCH in a convertible with the top down....it was fucking mind altering. The pot helped too...but either way this was fucking amazing.
@musicislove25 they get so defensive when their music is criticized, because they feel that just because someone has more of a mainstream music taste they do not appreciate music as much as they do.
I really hate it when people do this, and i especially hate how I'm the one pointing this out, but COME ON!! ONE1 FUCKING DISLIKE?!?! seriously dude???
@DarwinDiabl0 I agree - "Thought it was an alien/turned out to be just god" is definitely what he says on the album and not "What was an alien," as @lutjendesignlabs suggested. On the live versions he changed it up to "Thought it was some aliens/turned out to be some gods." for some reason though.
Fine, even though Modest Mouse has claimed Built to Spill is a huge influence on their music. To be more specific Modest Mouse would be nowhere without the existence of Doug Martsch who has been on the scene for a much longer time. I'm not trying to argue, I like both bands. Just a statement of fact.
@SoggiFry yeah I hear ya. i'm just trolling. but i'm not going to credit modest mouse's success to built to spill. mm has developed their own original sound, Sad Sappy Sucker was made in their sophmore year of high school and you can hear their sound in all of their albums. And all of their albums are different. Influence or not mm has developed their own sound. but i do enjoy built to spill
@KeepOffTheLawn I didn't mean to say they're success has to be credited to BTS. Just influenced just like any musician is influenced from bands they enjoy. Like how Neil Young is a huge influence to Doug Martsch of BTS. And I don't know, but I'm sure MM has influenced BTS in many ways as well. And yes, they're both unique in their own ways, and both pretty damn good.
personally i like modest mouse a bit better, but they are both fucking amazing. lets not let the fans of two great bands fight against each other, lets just realize the fact that they are both some of the best bands in the world
@sebas73751 i'm split. i loved Modest Mouse first, but found out about the awesomeness that is Built To Spill through MM. now it just depends on the day. my heart would be empty, shallow, and hopeless without either of these bands in my life. if i ever met the members of these two amazing bands, like Doug or Isaac, i would shake their hands and thank them for what they've done for me. i will never have a bad day in my life ever again so long as i have their music to listen to!
@MarieCelesteNL Just saying that, in the world of drumming, it gets a lot better. He/she's basically laying down the same beat the whole song. Maybe be a little more selective with a phrase like "tight as shit from a duck's ass!!" It's kind of insulting to the ducks to just throw it around like that.
@stpatrick31782 when you drum, you play the same beat all the time. Thats what drumming is for, so you don't fuck up the beat with a bunch of rick rollin' drum rolls and shit. Keeping beat is my main point. That is why drummers exist.
@Harikien955 Yeah, if that's true then why bother having a person play drums at all. The way you describe it, the drum machine represents perfection in the percussion world and there wouldn't be any point in having a person ever play the drums. You need to listen to The Who, or Led Zeppelin, or pretty much any jazz that doesn't suck. Drummers who really know how to keep the beat while dong interesting things expressively.
anyways, the only exception I have with your argument is the white stripes - the drumming is so simple, but because of the minimalistic style it works well.
built to spill are the led zepellin of this generation....obviously not in terms of selling units and influence, but because of how they've moved the sound of rock forward
holy shit!
