PS: the technique is to do rings separately and glue them together in the end or it's more like building a cake (start with the bottom layer and then put one after the other)?

Making the half circle cuts is very hard to explain. It is a function of the straight board sections turned round in 2 dimensions. I will post another video demonstrating this technique.
