Mmmm nostalgia. I find myself revisiting those emotions I experienced over 20 years ago: When the fuck are the Pixies going to start? Unlike some, I still need to be a Debaser.
We're only human man, born to make mistakes, ones of inhumanity, hostility, evil, no compassion etc it could have been a utopia, great gifts we have, great gifts.
How many times do I listen to this and think of the times when life could have been so different for me and her, she is so near yet so far and I will always love her regardless of what happens in life.
Howard Jones, along with The Human League and Belinda Carlisle will visit Smart Araneta Coliseum in Manila, The Philippines to perform on Oct 10, 2011.
Well what can I say the Best of British written all over this track!! It is a fantastic song and so many people can relate to the lyrics in more than one context so yes whatever place you are in or leaving this song can be applied to the circumstances relating to love and the issues it brings to the interface of life.
@sduroch the sound is more american than british as it's produced by jimmy jam and terry lewis who were the american equivalent of stock/aitken/waterman (only better) back in the 80's. Your right about the song though
ahhh I just love the beginning music to this. what 80s memories. I used to get this group mixed up with the Spoons lol for awhile. Early Alzheimer's disease I guess. I know I know Human League are British and the Spoons are Canadian. I love them both:)!
written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis if my memory serves, listen to the keys and the drum parts, you could almost imagine Janet Jackson or Alex O Neil singing this, absolutely beautiful song.
I'm 26, and I am jealous of the people who are older than me, and also who are younger. Older because they experienced the ''good times'' and of the younger because they can relive the good times again, re create it. I'm a complex case lol!! I guess I just feel so ''in the middle''
@GibbyGibbyGibb Everyone's in the middle. I'm 46, so, I'm part baby boomer, part generation x??? I'm not sure! ha ha!!! This song definitely brings back memories of homework all-nighters, when in nursing college.
To 44thepistol- trust me you don't have to be born in a certain era to "feel the decace. I wasn't born in Chopins time or when the operas Carmen or Madame
Butterfly were written. Yet I can feel the music in my heart and soul. Music
is timeless. It can reach across centuries just like Shakespeares plays can resonate
past timelines and become West Side story. Why? Because it''s being human. Let your mind always embrace yesterday-today and tommorow.
In terms of musical quality, inovation, boldness and madness, there´s NO decade at the 20th century better than the marvelous 80s... Why it happened at that special moment in time, is something open to a long debate. But the fact is: It DID happened ! And I was lucky enought to be there, live, see and hear it all...
@TheConcertMac yeah,i feel for you as well.i WAS in that same situation before and yet im still paying from that mistake ive done til now..so much regrets... if only i can TURN BACK THE CLOCK (w/c became my other related favorite song that ive liked ever since it happened.. ) ....( T-T)

this music knows no barrier nor distance.....I am from Poland and when they played this song on the radio we still had an iron curtain.... Music was the only thing that travelled so easily from West to East Block.
This group are the nuts. Seen them live and they are pure class. I get sick of people slagging off the two girls saying they are just bimbo's. If you heard them sing live you would know just how talented they are. Music of today compared to great 80's music is just a joke.
Many will criticise the fashions of the early eighties but as a time to be young it was fantastic.
New Romanticism was special. It was, at least partially, inspired by the Romantic movement of the early 19th Century - hence some of the clothes and hair styles. The 19thC Romantics believed in, and searched for, more than just the humdrum of the world that they lived in, hence their draw to Mesmerism and his theories of magnetic fluid.
How many of us are not looking for something more even now?
They weren't funny videos, they were in another decade and I got to say them videos may not have the technology of the new ones but they have class! and not women showing their titties and arses off or men looking rather ''weird'' instead of elegant, that's my opinion
Always liked the stark contrast of the tenderness of the song and the dark sexiness of the singer...Steven Segal-ish. Beautiful work by the Human League all around here.
@cmaisa they are not funny. They look old-fashioned now and lack good fashion sense, but the 80s was a very original decade. They did not copy any previous decades like it has been going on since the 90s. The music of the 80s was great too.

@sherlika - True. The vocalist was also trying to look like Rachael (Sean Young) from the movie Blade Runner. Sweet irony isn't it? She was a robot and this song, Human.

@Supersweetguy No actually. It just goes with oakley. People who can't afford real Oakley sunglasses tend to either get a cheap pair of anything or a pair of 'jokeleys' - basically, fake oakleys. It just sounds funny.
aahhh!!..the 80's and being the star football player/wrestler in a small NJ high school with all those school dances and hot girls who where easy to talk to and those kick ass guidette hairdoo's,lip gloss, tight pants and and high heel pumps...oh well..it was great while it las
Perfect pop/R&B/slow song for Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam to have the Human League cross over to US markets. Human League stated at the time that they wanted to be like the SOS band. It didn't work in the long run, but this was a great start. Great song. And a great video too.
@forbesmh This is almost indistinguishable from the SOS band apart from Oakey's very distinctive vocals. This just might be The Human League's best ever track. I never would have thought I would end up thinking/saying this when it was in the charts all those years ago. Despite the Jam and Lewis production job sounding somewhat dated, (particularly in the drum department) the strength of the melody overrides all other considerations for me.
I watched my baby sister wear leg-wharmers- And I did a talent show as Michael Jackson in the thriller jacket and all that.. I won ..I DID BILLIE JEAN AND FLIPPED THE SCRIP.....
I'm looking for a video/song from the mid to late eighties. The video was a short story about a WW2 'spy' running from the Gestapo in (Cairo perhaps?). He runs into a bar to meet his contact - the female singer - but the Gestapo catches up with them. She gets him out the back door to a waiting plane and he leaves (or she escapes???). At least that's how I remember it from 20 years ago! I probably some of the details mixed up.

Perfect pop/R&B/slow song for Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam to have the Human League cross over to US markets. Human League stated at the time that they wanted to be like the SOS band. It didn't work in the long run, but this was a great start. Great song. And a great video too.

@forbesmh And nobody dos a better slow jam than the SOS band
philster61 1 year ago
@forbesmh This is almost indistinguishable from the SOS band apart from Oakey's very distinctive vocals. This just might be The Human League's best ever track. I never would have thought I would end up thinking/saying this when it was in the charts all those years ago. Despite the Jam and Lewis production job sounding somewhat dated, (particularly in the drum department) the strength of the melody overrides all other considerations for me.

Who sang the song and what was the song title?
