@monegarand well it is suppose to make it easier for tablets an touch-screens, i would say they both need to be improved and they will by the time.. since they are both open-source i am sure they will get much better
@gentoogeek The 2 wallpapers are the default ones for Unity on Ubuntu 11.04 and Gnome 3 on Fedora 15. Fedora's wallpaper is the Gnome 3 default but with birds and swirls.
Great video, I wasnt a big fan of unity, it made me switch back to os x. (most people do call it os 'ex' by the way, apple just wants you to say 'ten')
Gnome three looks pretty slick, I might have to get my hands on it.
"Gnome 3's "chunkiness" is really just due to a silly default GTK theme. This is easily fixed using a number of different themes. I recommend "zukitwo" which has a much more compact gtk + shell theme."
Duh, you stupid winbreds. Didn't you know not to use the "silly" default GTK theme? How dumb could you be?

This was an informative video to watch and it's a good explanation of the differences between Unity and Gnome 3, one thing that bothered me was the use of "OS X" instead of OS Ten which is pedantic but is the correct way to pronounce it ;).
I also prefer Gnome 3 to Unity, Unity just feels very heavy and both are regressive in their user experiences.
BOTH ARE SUCKS!!!

wtf unity in ubuntu 11.10 is wayyyyyy better and faster...quite franky i find unity in ubuntu 11.10 faster and snapper than gnome 3.
Chetan101592 4 months ago
You should revaluate though as unity in 11.10 is far better then it was in 11.04

Really great job. Probably the best and most unbiased comparison I've seen. Thanks.

Gnome-shell > Unity.
Unity is an unholy mess, gnome-shell is sleek and user friendly...

@GegoXaren
In Bizarro world maybe.

Unity , and GNOME3 are both buggy. GNOME2 was way better , and even " Linus Torvalds " called GNOME 3 an "unholy mess"... I would have to agree.

@someoneoverthere1 The middle mouse button on the unity bar opens a new window for the application.

What wallpaper is that? I've done a cursory search on Google but I've been unable to find it.

Nice comparison, seems making a decision between the two is pretty difficult.
I just use Openbox instead of a full grown desktop environment. =)

Good and fair comparison. Keep up the good work

Wow, that is one fantastic comparison. I think I'll try Unity with 11.10.

Having used Gnome 3 as my main desktop for a few months, it is a great experience, and far nicer to work with than Unity.

@aegisgfx no one is taking away anything. These are simply not targeted at the l33t crowd.

Hate to be a pedant (bullshit, I love pedantry), but it's pronounced Guh-nome, not Gee-nome.

@calrogman I personally just pronounce it like the word gnome, since that sounds the least ridiculous.
