  • You know what. I started using this technique before I even knew about Pomodoro. The only other distraction I have are people coming into my room saying "Wow you gotta see this youtube video, it's just nuts". I have found that pikes through the head eliminate this one.

  • Focus Booster is a good replacement of Pomodoro Desktop. Available for both pc and mac.

  • Is there Pomodoro Desktop for PC ???

  • I will keep ketchup nearby as I try this POMODORO ! Ketchup is my reward.

  • Practice the Vipassana technique of meditation. You will gain much more than short bursts of concentration.

  • A wise man once said “We are all at the mercy of our wild monkey minds. Incessantly swinging from branch to branch.”

The ticker sound does not really bother me. Its kind of like its a gameshow and I am playing to the last minute. Amazing things happen when the pressure is on!

  • Holy hell that timer in the lower left is unbelievably distracting and annoying. Trust me, I'll take your word for it that the presentations are timed properly, I don't need to see the timer myself, thanks.

  • Wow I need to stop texting and driving especially after really drinking 4 beers :-O

  • pomodooro taste well two. mmmmm pockets.

  • I just started Pomodoro, during my 5 minute brakes I will be watching Pomodoro videos on YouTube.

  • @dennisonicc I was watching this video during my first pomodoro break btw.

  • Very clearly stated. Thanks.

  • for people who can't focus with a ticking sound, there is a google chrome app called the "tomatoist" that uses the pomodoro technique.

  • crisp and concise overview of the technique, thank you for posting

  • I have been using a similar technique with ordinary timer programs for writing novels, and it works pretty well. I prefer a 15 minutes on - 5 minutes off approach, or 48 minutes on and 12 minutes off . I don't like a constant ticking sound either, although seeing the clock can have its advantages. The trick, as I see it, is more in the BREAKS than the time you spend concentrating. Usually I can't wait to start writing again.

  • :)

I do this as well (different timing, though, depending on how tired I am feeling at the moment). I use focus booster (windows) and it works great :)

    Thank you!

  • I'm the Greg Head in the video. The Lifehacker article "The Pomodoro Technique Trains Your Brain Away From Distractions" incorrectly says I'm a software developer, but I'm really a marketing strategy consultant at New Avenue, and former software industry executive.

Get the a simple PDF ebook that explains the entire process in detail on the Pomodoro Technique official website.

I use the free software called Pomodoro Desktop for Mac.

  • I could explain this in 30 seconds, but it's still a good technique. I did the same in college 10 years ago.

  • Nothing breaks down any focus I muster up faster than a ticking sound. (Except Star Trek reruns, maybe.)

I don't think this technique is made for people with ADHD.. =P

  • @tech99070 yes, ticking sucks. Environmental sounds that I can't quite shut out drive me insane. 25 work 5 relax is great!

  • @tech99070 I had that problem also in the beginning. First the sound is annoying and distracts you. But afterwards after some pomodoro's it becomes part of the pomodoro and it means you are actually doing quality work. After a while you start to look at it like that and the ticking sound becomes a peaceful positive sound.

  • I will try this.. nice..

  • Pomodoro is one of my favorite technique. Something about the "ticking sound" makes the task even more urgent.

  • Why not use the Kitchen-Egg Technique? Or any other kind of digestible stuff too?

  • wow. i would like one that also maybe descreetly voiced how many minutes have passed or maybe in 5-minute increments.

  • Thank you iGNiTe... Without knowing anything about such a technique, I had a similar technique of my own. I used to just run a clock that was making ticking sound on my computer (tick-tock), just that ticking sound constantly reminded me of passing time, this reduced me from getting distracted considerably.

  • Hmmmm... interesting, I guess.
