When God first created the earth there was nothing wrong with it. Because the penalty of Adam sinning was both spiritual death and bodily death all of Adam's descendents die because they sin too. It gets passed down from parent to child. Viruses and diseases are just indicators that people are slowly in the process of dying. As a result of sin. because it's penalty is death.
God had put Adam in authority over the earth, so the sin Adam committed negatively affects the earth. Adam sinning against God is what introduced natural disasters. Despite sin having negative effects on SOME of creation, there are still enough intricately designed things left in nature to be able to conclude that the designer of such things is intelligent.
