He isn't all that bad. He definitely needs a bit more "soul" to his playing, and his tone isn't amazing, but the stuff he plays it certainly harder than what most beginners do.

And at least he actually plays bass. In some bands the bassist (coughcoughsidvicious) doesn't even play bass.

"Dance, dance" is mainly Bass and Drums. I can't believe what small amount of attention the drummer gets. He's really awe. One of the better drummers i know. I, after playing drums 7 years, am now trying to repeat "Dance, Dance" and it's impossible... i don't know how does he pull it off. Andrew Hurley(the drummer) is my inspiration. I am now trying to play even more and my goal is to play "dance, dance" with my band flawlessly. xP

I think he thought of it in about 2 hours tops.Its entirely based around a d note. i still dont know how come he picked the B note to start it off, but then it goes straight into D, then its just a 5th of the d (going down lower to A), and the flat 7th of A (G). Really, its not that complicated. See, my teacher told me that learning to play a song is useless if you get nothing out of it

(for the record, he starts on B because the song is written in the key of B minor. However he keeps returning to that D because it it is the relative major of B minor. also he goes to the G not because its the flat 7th of A but because he's following a I-VII-VI-VII chord progression)

Again, nobody thinks he's a god, but there are far worse bass players out there. All I'm saying is that theres no reason to be crticizing his playing specifically. Maybe just the nature of Pop Rock Bass playing?
