I'll tell you this even rock music has become commerical. The heavist groups are underground. Underground rappers have more lyrical content and are more talented. What is worse is most blacks dont have any respect for the art form they would rather listen to soulja boy than a guy like common, nas or canibus consciuos rap.
I agree with you 100%. Hip hop was best in the early 1980's. Hip hop used to be a secret language that blacks would communicate and make a statement. Once the record labels listened to it and found out what was happening they forced the artist to change there lyrics.
I feel that anything that is good and worth embracing by the public won't remain underground for long. I believe that is especially true today with the expanse of technology where the lines of communication are always open and spread across the world. I think it is important to build bridges between our youth and mature adults in hip hop. I was born in 1984, so I had to learn the history of hip hop... If we don't teach folks to respect the past then we fail. We fail as a culture.

Hip Hop was always a gutter culture. Commercial or otherwise. Rap stands foe Retards attempting poetry.
