Here is why the s class won:They are both about the same weight and aerodynamics and they are both equiped with the same engine producing the same power but the s63 driver was probably a bit more faster at the start which explains how it gained the early lead and won.

@iamidiotic The W220 was my favorite S class; it oozed elegance and beauty. I hate the front end of the 221 now especially with 500 rows of christmas tree lights. I don't feel there is any elegance to it and looks plain ugly. While the F02 took some time getting used to, I'd have to say that it would be my choice of premium large sedan. The one thing I do like about the W221 is its interior; the craftmanship and complete avoidance of black plastic are nothing short of remarkable.

@4RINGSS5 Tell you what, I own a pre-facelift W220 as well, its a great car. Its very robust, very well built, not as reliable as I wish it could've been, but I would choose it over its competitors anyday. But its age is starting to show, constant electrical problems have shown up, the bottom of my the front seats won't heat, only the seat backs will, the instrument cluster has gone out twice with replacements. I find the W221 beautiful, even if it does take lines from the Maybach line.

Why? Because the CL63 is a coupe and the S63 is a sedan? The S63 and the CL63 were both 0-60 tested and recorded by the manufacture. The S63 did 60 in a time of 4.5 seconds where the CL63 did it in 4.6 seconds. Might not seem like a big different in times but .1 seconds is all that is needed. The outcome was expected if you ask me.

All the things you said are not likeable are just the points that make it so desireable! There are no (real) backseats for children or dogs. But it's still an SClass, just as you wrote. In the Sclass you might look like you're the chauffeur. In the CLclass you always are the driver. Besides, there are no Diesel engines and no V6s, so the basic CL is already an upper Sclass, most people can't afford.
