  • 2:12 :O :O

    Mike wasn't the only one!!

  • Cmon guys playing a role in a theater or whatever isnt gay at all... I dont do it but I totally respect James for wanting that. James is an awesome singer that can take really high notes and I think he's not replaceable in DT!

  • i love him

  • He has a decently sized penis.

  • @MlKEPORNTOY every video that has dream theater in the title you leave fucking comments..

  • James in Jesus Christ Superstar. :p

  • Oh let me join the conversation. James Labrie would like some time for a side project in Brodway (kind of like what the band does (LTE, etc)) Mike Portnoy wanted to put the whole Dream Theater project on hiatus just because he's bored. Also James Labrie has a tiny small role in composing, he can leave to do faggy stuff and be there when the band needs to record vocals.

  • @12bl34ea56ch you mean faggy stuff other than what he does in Dream Theater?

  • @instereovideos That's absolutely what I meant. Even though he likes to do some shit that has nothing to do with metal from time to time, he doesn't ask the band to just cut their living and wait for him. I dislike some of his singing, his attitude on stage, his face, and many other things but the dude was always honest and having the fans' best interests at heart and for that I respect him a lot.

  • @12bl34ea56ch haha, I agree.

  • Oh my god he's such a pussy !! But I learned to love his pussiness. He's a very smart dude, though.

  • James in broadway...

    James LaBrie in RENT? Hmmm...

  • this really makes me wonder why he didint take Portnoy's offer.

  • @tajmahanz It wasn't James it was their lawyer who declined his offer to rejoin

  • @tajmahanz He said one year or two, Portnoy wanted a five years hiatus. I think THEY thought that five years was a lot of time.

  • I think that La Brie was also up to some time off the band 2:12

  • He looks like a motorbike rider

  • Am I the only one who thinks James LaBries is one of the scariest looking human beings on the planet?

  • @LedSatriani Nope, I think you'll find a lot of support for that... He looks like Rip Torn.

  • Les Miserable + James LaBrie........ just wow

  • James, you look like a conquistador now.

  • @glacier2win He looks like Ray Liotta lol

  • wow. i cant believe he mentioned the hiatus mike portnoy was talking about. lol...

  • @kingdomhearts227 apart from mike wanted about a 5 year break

  • @MrGamerBazer In a radio interview he explained a little further saying he initially fronted 5 years, then said maybe about 2 - 3 years. The rest of Dream Theater declined that, and Mike had to go his own way due to his personal feelings.

That main thing here is that DT was faced with an opportunity to take a year or two hiatus, and declined to take it. I personally, do not know all the reasons for DT not taking it other than "We do not know what to do other than tour and record".

  • @Shreddfase i understand that but how can mike go off on another band "which is fair enough and everyone should respect the reasons of why" come back and then declare he wanted time off. Secondly why he was with the other band DT already had some time off i think anyways.

  • @MrGamerBazer I do believe why Mike was with Avenged Sevenfold was due to the fact that the old drummer of AS's, whom had died, favorite drummer was Mike Portnoy. As both a kind act, as well as making a dream of a dead person come true, Mike took the spot temprarly. Also there should be another note taken, John Petrucci went on tour with G3 while DT was together. They all do seperate projects.

As for DT's time off, Mike was refering to a larger time frame, rather than the typical few months.

  • @kingdomhearts227 I just jawed to floor after hearing that myself, listening to this...

    wow... fail...

They shoulda taken the that one or two years after the next Album + Tour, then take the hiatus, or record the album, then hold release of it till that hiatus is over.

  • James would be great Valjean in looks, but would need little more bass in voice... Maybe Javert but I think James stand little bit too tall.

    Pick another play, James.

  • John Petrucci Is The Best..

  • "les mzzrlabl "

  • Portnoy did ask for a break, but noone was with him.

  • @TheDougDude Yes, I'd love to have Portnoy in the band! But you can't leave the band and then when you're out of business, you go back. I mean that's just douchey. But anyways, I want Portnoy back.

  • @ErikJonssonMusic Indeed, I'm not sure DT will be the same without him, but I am sure they'll still write awesome songs and perform insanely good. But as much as I want Portnoy back in the band I can't wait for them to reveal the new drummer and release the new album.

  • @SJothra yeah i know i wouldnt be able to recognize his voice if i wasnt looking at his face if he was only talking

  • I think persoanlly it would be easier to replace one of the musicians as opposed to james. not in a creating music sense, but its alot easier for a guitarist to copy the previous guys style. I mean just listening to it, you could mistake one guitar player for another if they rigidly stuck to the originals style. whereas if James was replaced, you would hear the tone difference easier and think 'wow they have a new singer'.

  • Funny that he mentions he thinks at some point DT would go on hiatus and he could go sing broadway... yet when Portnoy wanted to go on break, they said no

  • @trinixia yeah but Portnoy wanted a break when the others didnt. James thought theyd go on one when they all collectively agreed, not just when Mike wanted it

  • He sounds so much different when he's not singing :O

  • OMG mega idiots, can you imagine home without labrie?, learning to live? strange dejavou? actually, can you imagine all of DT songs with someone else's voice??

IMPOSSIBLE!!! And i truly believe that if anyone of the band leaves, the band will change and stop being awesome. They are all brilliant, TOGETHER.

  • @8e77yQ Sorry but Labrie is most certainly NOT the essence of DT. The real musicians playing the music are exactly that in DT. Labrie could be replaced easily.

  • I love dream theater alot, but come on mike portnoy was there from the beginning and when he wanted to take a break they left him behind. Surely they all couldve took a break, James couldve done his broadway ambition and I'm sure the other guys couldve done something else. They're all pretty busy guys! Anyway, they lost a great drummer and the new one has some big shoes to fill, hope they don't lose their touch!

  • I came here almost randomly, but I have to say that,IMO,LaBrie looks like Glen Benton ( Deicide ).

  • in the name of john shave that thing labrie

  • he's a great singer! Saw dream theater in helsinki in 2007, the best gig i have ever been to :D

  • Why is everyone commenting on his appearance? I bet people who pick on his features are 1000 times uglier themselves.

And what's that complaining about him being the weak link of DT? He's got a very good vocal range, he can sing melodically, scream, and do anything that a rock/metal vocalist should be capable of doing. If you don't like his voice, then find another band, or stick with the instrumental tracks and stop bitching.

  • ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

"maybe when Dream Theater takes a 1-2 year Hiatus" Mike Portnoy suggested that and you guys drive him to quit his own band??? You could have done your Broadway show and explore this new way of expressing yourself for the next Dream Theater album or your solo project. Instead no, you didn't. You let your leader quit and for what? To neglect yourself? I don't understand at all. Great choice Labire..

  • @frogbeergolfgolf i agree

  • @frogbeergolfgolf That's exactly what I was thinking.

  • @frogbeergolfgolf

"I don't understand at all". Sure you don't. First, you overcentraize the band on Portnoy. Second, you're completely ignoring the artistic part of the matter. Mike knew DT guys can do well on their own, while they are aware that their music needs a different direction, and objectively saw Mike's departure as a good chance. Remember that scenarios change as the course progresses. If you said something two or three years ago, you probably have a different perspective today.

  • @SpaceDyeDream

"overcentricize the band on MP" EVERYONE including DT said he was more so the leader of thr group. That was just his role. Can't put that against me.

Mike wanted to chill out for a bit to regain musical creativity for Dream theater.

How can you claim you feel you know w that Mike leaving DT was the one way they can progress? They even said themselves they want to do it to prove they can do it without Mike. Thats plain fucking Immature if you ask me.

  • One of the best singers in metal history!

  • @SearchWithinDivine not even close..

  • haha Lenin

  • He hasn't been himself since the accident.

  • FAGGOT

Now really, I don't like his voice, and think DT would have been better off without him.

A nice example of a similiar yet good vocalist is Russell Allen.

  • "... I never really thought aboot"

  • 00:00 to skip the spot

  • i wish i had a father liek him

  • @thiagotecnico like!!!! NOT LIEK

  • @jikarpert TYPING MISTAKE, TYPO HAAAAA

  • @thiagotecnico okej är du svensk ?

  • @jikarpert não, eu so brasilero mermo!

  • James only looks a little tired here...

  • 3:57 - 4:00, "...a night, so, you have to be prepared." It was like he was singing it! Like something from Broadway! Haha!

  • He looks like a bird!

  • @skifarterufa lol

  • Scenes of a Memory - Broadway!!

  • 0:01

  • Okay, he made a comment that when Dream Theater took a hiatus that me may do it. Portnoy wanted a year break, and they band told him no. So... wtf.

  • @dalejrfan7390 Because Portnoy wanted a break because he was burned out, but that's because he started playing with and touring with other bands non-stop and leaving Dream Theater behind. Then he starting whining like a little bitch because Dream Theater wanted to record a new album for 2011 but Portnoy was too tired from playing with other bands so the rest of Dream Theater was like, fuck this guy he doesn't give two shits about us, and now he wants to tell US to take a break?

  • @Thycid yh but mate look at it from MPs point of view, he played in DT more or less none stop for 25yrs, that more than 1/2 his life. so what if he wanted a break from them 4 abit? i think its a good thing for him tbh, and if the rest of DT cant understand that then theyre the dicks in the situation. MP said what he meant, he just wanted a year break from DT just so he could tour with a few difernt bands for a change befor recordin the new album, he did give a shit, just wanted some time off....

  • @chris74742

I've thought about this as well, and I think the rest of Dream Theater wanted a break from Mike, too. Ive heard that Mike wanted the band to sound a certain way all this time, and the band wanted to do different things. When Mike wanted to take a break, the rest of the band took advantage of it.

  • he has a huge head

  • Yay for Jamie Vendera! :)

  • This guys vocal style destroys Dream theater's appeal to me

Awesome musicianship starts, then fabio up here steps out with his makeup and blowing hair and ruins the moment with this diva-like presence

    shit man.....

  • @mountaingiant79 I take it you've never seen them live, or actually paid attention to any of their music. That's majorly unfortunate on your part, sir. He is a very small part of the big picture, yes he is the vocalist, but Portnoy was definitely the leader of the band. Also, he keeps his presence to a minimum when on stage, he's not up there with a diva like presence like it's glam-rock or anything like that... He comes out, sings, and leaves. Lets the band keep presence without him on stage.

  • My exact thoughts.

  • @Aigimilan well said, sir.

  • @Aigimilan I don't like his voice myself, but technically he is an incredible singer. I do have lots of respect for him as a vocalist that's for sure.

  • He looks very tired :/

  • I always pictured Atilla the Hun just like LaBrie looks here.

  • If they let James write 90% of the lyrics and melodies this band would be so much better imo (...and I'm a huge fan of all their music. THey're amazing as they are). But I think MP and JPs lyrics tend to be much more simple. LaBrie is the vocalist. Words, and presenting them, are his art...I hope with MP gone he gets more freedom, since he doesn't write the music.

  • He's bulked up a bit.

  • very weird head..

  • LaBrie says he would taken the time to advance his vocal career into broadway plays and such, requiring up to a year's worth of commitment. Meanwhile, Portnoy left the band due to his need for at least a year's worth hiatus, while the other members allegedly wanted to move forward with the new album.

  • Comment removed

  • I've seen DT live twice and each time he really hasn't been very interactive with the crowd, so if hes goin into theatre he needs to learn to get with the crowd

  • That vaccumcleaner in the back is F***ing annoiiing!

  • For God's sake James, shave this beard !!! lol

  • @wmguitarjam If he did then how would we tell if he's the original or the evil clone.

  • So if he needed the band to take a hiatus to play Broadway, that was OK. Portnoy wanted a hiatus he had to quit. That's poorly done plastic surgery & hair plugs.

  • Well, I know I hope for labrie to get fucked rudess to leave, and the 2 johns for a band the LIKES WHICH HAVE NEVER BEEN SEEN, AND THEY CALLED THEMSELVES, "something better than DT ever was''. Get Moore back in, a younger drummer with math metal chops, and a singer who doesn't sound like his balls are being chomped on by a squirrel and you might have yourselves a motherfuckin ultimate band.

  • did you see how he picked up that phone? that was so metal

  • "Dream theater at some point might say: lets take a hiatus for 1 year 2 years, then, thats my opportunnity tu jump onboard and do something like that." ...Yeah...except they didnt accepted the hiatus when Portnoy suggested it

  • @Uneartlyarcanamach good point

  • So obviously this tells us that either 1) james couldn't find a play or 2) James agreed with Mike to take a hiatus. ;)

  • DT has a new drummer, They will announce it extremely soon :-) news as of last Friday

  • @jimlbw71 : false.

  • @chrisklecker OK maybe i heard wrong :-) I think Marco Minnemann would make an awesome drummer for them :-) just an opinion though

  • Worst part of Dream Theater. Even moreso than the keys.

  • The pop ups this jack ass puts on his videos make me want to hang myself. GET A GRIP

  • it's always funny. on one hand some guys keep saying, that he is a voice-legend, on the other hand people are telling, he would be a weak link in dt. i think he has got a great voice, and fits very good in dream theaters music, so there is no "weak link" in dream theater. its entire great music. inclusive all members. and what happens, if one of these guys leaves we will see in near future.

  • if James was already anticipating working on other projects during a dream theater "hiatus" and everyone else has projects, why wouldn't they have taken a break to keep portnoy?

  • @mechajabo I agree this has left me confused

  • @XanaduMyHome me too

  • @Zules1971 Right... after Mike Portnoy just left the band, I'm SURE LaBrie is the weak link. >.>

    Begone, troll.

  • @outlier1985 why did Portnoy leave the band? I thought he would be a lifer

  • @littlefuzzer That's what I thought, too. From what he says, he was burned out by their recording and touring schedule(which is understandable, they release an album every other year), and wanted to take a hiatus. The other members disagreed, so he chose to leave instead.

But honestly, we all know Portnoy is a bit of a control freak. Somehow I don't believe his request for a hiatus was quite as polite as he made it out to be.

  • @Zules1971 All of DT are full of them selves, get over it

  • @MadGodful what am i supposed to get over?

  • Jesus Christ super star ...xDDD Labrie

  • Wow!

His big beard makes him look brutal )m(

  • YOU STUPID DICK!! YOU WANTED BROADWAY, BUT YOU FUCKING DECIDED TO GO ON AND LET THE FANS SUFFER A DREAM THEATER WITHOUT MIKE.

    FUCK. YOU. JAMES. LA. BITCH!!!

  • @matrixman770 Yeah, you sure are a real DT fan aren't you? two faced bitch. Pick a side and stick with it, don't buy their CD's then lash out on someone you have never met. Especially if you aren't a musician with ambitions.

  • @Megadedly I am a true DT fan. The TRUE DT at least, not the DT that kicked out the very heart beat of DT. And yes, I HAVE met these guys, and out of all of them, Mike was the ONLY one who had a heart for his fans. John P. is a ball scratcher, Jordan is a fucking prick, John M. doesn't have a bad spot in my heart, but if he had a say against the whole Hiatus thing MP suggested, then fuck him. And James is way to fucking full of himself. He should've been the one who left if anything.

  • @matrixman770 He didn't kick anyone out, even John P didn't want to take a break, no one did. They want to continue, and Mike was the only one tired of it.

  • @Megadedly Even if they didn't kick him out, Mike knew what was best for the band, and the rest of the band was arrogant. I would much rather see this band go on a 5 year hiatus than have a dream theater with no mike. In fact, I would MUCH rather have no dream theater AT ALL, and a DT with no mike. Dream Theater needs a Hiatus, James wanted one, and he missed his chance, so Fuck the current members of dream theater for being so arrogant and full of themselves.

  • @matrixman770 Yeah I guess they could have taken a break...

  • @matrixman770 There's two sides to every story. Mike may have been burned out. But the others were still very excited about making new music and recording a new album. Why shoud Mike get in the way of that just because he wants a break? I don't blame Mike for wanting to take a break. But it would be incredibly selfish of him to demand that DT not continue without him, when the rest of the band really wants to write more music.

  • @matrixman770 No you're not a true DT fan. If you were then you wouldn't be such a bitch about one member taking a break. Sure Mike played an important role, and yeah it sucks that he left, but the rest of the band remains, and they're all amazing. And how can you hate all but one member of a band, and say you're a true fan of them? Stfu.

  • @Virus940 first of all, I hate each but one band member because I met them personally with open hearts, hoping they would see the respect I had for them. JP scratched his balls and looked like he could give a rats ass about his fans. JR was giving me attitude, and did the same the last time I saw him, so fuck him. JM, I'm chill with for now... but unless he took part in having a say against MP's choice, screw him. And JL, he needs to fuck off and quit thinking he's the main attractionf of the DT

  • @matrixman770 Well, I don't know about the other members but I personally met Jordan Rudess and his whole family and had a little chat with them after the premiere of JR's Explorations and they all were very nice and kind not only with me but also with all the other people that were there.

BTW, it was not a meet and greet package, we just were some people that wanted to see him and he gave us a handshake, took a picture and signed some stuff after 5 continous hours of playing.

  • @Virus940 secondly, Dream Theater was made BY mike, and was raised BY mike. In fact, its thanks to MIKE that DT is who it is now. I love DT because it is MIKE'S creation. Yes, DT was originally JP, JM, MP with a bit of Kevin Moore and Chris Collins, but MP started it and MP made it work. I admire DT's work together as whole, but none of it would've shown its true colors if it weren't for Mike.

  • @matrixman770 Wow. You obviously have no idea how this industry works. I don't know what to even say to you right now.

  • @BHxTwinTurbo911 The industry has nothing to do with DT and MP's decision. This was about their musical pursuits and they're need for a hiatus which DT refused. Fuck the industry, DT can live without it. What they CAN'T live with, is a DT without MP.

  • @matrixman770 jesus fucking christ, just put it aside you, if you did know about the industry or the whole story on why mike left, it was both the band and the managements decision to keep going on and mike was the only person in the band who wanted to take a hiatus cause (he himself was loosing interest and was getting tired), you cant really take a hiatus after you just recently put out a new album. you have to pay back the companies money buy touring, promote it in anyway to pay them off

  • @DylanEVH They did a tour with IRON MAIDEN! I'm sure that paid back any debt they had.

  • @XXblacktoothgrinXX just because they toured with Iron Maiden doesnt mean anything. Guns N Roses toured with Iron Maiden back in 87-88 and they were still doing bad at that time. just by luck when they toured with aerosmith, the song sweet child o mine became famous and eventually brought them to fame, dokken did a tour with blue oyster cult back in 83 and they are an extremely commercial band. even after that tour, not only were they broke but in massive debt. music business can be brutal

  • @matrixman770 thats also why alot of bands get dropped from labels even big bands. Dokken back in the 80's was in debt of $1 million because they didnt do so well with sales and promotion for one of their albums and was almost dropped from the label. its harder to keep a record contract than it is to get one

  • @DylanEVH Ok, that makes more sense. But one thing I want to point out still. DT wants to make ANOTHER album. So DT is still a bunch or retards, because they should've listened to mike, and wait off on doing an album, and instead of taking a hiatus immediately, do more shows to pay off the albums, and THEN take a hiatus. Doing another album would just keep DT away from ever having a hiatus, PLUS, like mike said, it would start making them stale in creativity.

  • @matrixman770 ok, i can understand your argument as far as taking a hiatus for at least a year or so and you do make a good point on that. but long hiatus's can get fans majorly pissed off and record companies pissed off cause you can get lawsuits in if you wait out too long on money owed to the company. and mike had spoken to the band on taking an indefinate hiatus, most indefinate hiatus are hard to go back into work and other bullshit can sture up

  • @matrixman770 for an example, pink floyd has been on indefinate hiatus technically since the late 80's early 90's and they ended up never reuniting with the acception of one show back in 05

  • @DylanEVH aite, thats fine, but like I said, a year hiatus is what they needed. their creativity has been growing stale since around octavarium and systematic chaos. of DT goes on, they will become mediocre and commercial friendly to a point thats disgusting. All this is pretty much what would've happened in the Falling into Infinity years when Mike was about a step close to leaving the band. Mike saved the band from being sell outs, and instead, got them bigger and better the DT way.

  • @matrixman770 with the 1 year hiatus, you absolutely right on that one. that would eventually happen down the road like what labrie states in this interview. but the way Mike Portnoy had in mind was dangerous to the bands profile and financial issues. i've got nothing but respect for portnoy though, i met him 2 months ago, he was really nice and liked what i had to say to him. i just personally dont support his idea/decision on the band taking an indefinate hiatus

  • @DylanEVH I've met mike once, and seen him up close at least twice. Ever since the first time we've met, he has remembered me since. I truely feel like I am respected more than a fan by him, and thats why I am so bitchy to the other members, because JP didn't give a rats ass about his fans when I met him, JR was a douche to me, JM actually said something, which surprised me, and JL is full of himself. But yea... ur right, MP's choice was dangerous... but the 1 year hiatus should've happened..

  • @matrixman770 that's weird... i met the guys and jordan was definetly the nicest one followed by mike

  • @Idranmurd Wuuuut??? Are you kidding??? Petrucci ain't kewl??

LaBrie ain't kewl??? I understand Myung's seriousness, but still.... really??

  • @kakilleh i wasn't saying that they are not cool but rudess is just a really really nice person, the rest of the guys are cool to the fans but not as much as rudess in my opinion

  • @Idranmurd Oh... that's a Relief, actually ^_^

I always thought that if I'd ever to meet the guys, I'll bring them presents.. like Chocolates for Rudess, or maybe some sort of Canada motif for LaBrie, u know

    _\m/

  • 2:10 .. why couldn't they just go into hiatus? ):

  • @CreatureofMasquerade because for what I heard in Static Impulse, the next album is going to be kick ass, and JP and Myung are going to release new albums too, so based in JLB and those two future discs well see a great album

  • @XRasenX I hope so. I miss the pre-octavarium era. I hope this brings on some change. The hiatus would've done the same with less drama, probably, that's why I think the hiatus would've been the best choice (besides, it would've brought even more solo albums). I bet anything that Mike will come back in 1, 2 years at most and this will be remembered as drama and only drama. I hope positive, kickass-music-inspiring drama, though.

  • 1:00 haha JL must be thinking "damn i need some water".

    PS. DT greates band ever!

  • I'd go watch him on Broadway

  • if he wants to get in broadway try to play devil, that character will gonna fit on him!

  • idk if its me but does Labrie look like a cat to any one else?

Also he is the uttermost blakc metal man on earth, his real name is

JURGEN DURGEN FJUERGEN HUMPTA GUMPTA UMPTA MAENPANENENON ERIKSON

he was born in Sweden,Finland,Norway,And Denmark simultaenously!

he's just changing his name cus he wants to avoid the church burning trials so he let his buddy varg an amaish woman from indonesia getta sex change and become the black metal phenom by taking the credit for that shit!

  • I AM BETTER ..and nobody gives a shit ..sorry ..hard but true --fuck your interview

  • when he said that he wanted to be on broadway to be honest that is a joke yea lebrie is a decent singer but that is all he is. He is not ready to be on broadway

  • Fabio!

  • @KyleJPie10

OMG this comparisson always makes me laugh till I cry...

  • @KyleJPie10 lmao!

  • i got one simple question...

Does this interviewer know ANYTHING about Dream Theater because the dude doesn't seem to be that much informed of the music or the history of the band.

A fan could have done this 100x times better than this dude

  • ...that I never really thought "aboat" xD Coolest canadian ever!

  • There's no LaBrie interview on said site. False advertising!

  • He has really big cheeks doesn't he. :P

  • he looked asian in the thumbnail xD

  • @virginkiller777, you´re absolutely right. LaBrie does not only have the tendency, he really looks like a cat, more a tiger. Like those tigers they print on the "wildcat" superdry t-shirts

  • @sorenshell he looks like any normal bipedal ape to me

  • wwwwooohhh oohhhh ooohhhhh. WWoooooaaahhh oohhh ooohhhh. WWWWHHHHHOOOO OOOHHH OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • @dream4dreamtheater that's learning to live, right?

  • @Heavynprog1 yeah, the jizz note

  • Is it JUST me or does LaBrie have a tendency to look like a cat?

  • @virginkiller777 Haha I've been thinking that too!
