Great tutorial, but why did you use a Horn Driver with a 1kHz -21kHz response instead of a Compression driver that can go as low as maybe 100 Hz ?

Direct coupling the tube will not harm the diaphram. It will sound better with out the extension.

The thing that is a talk box is that you need to use it really sparingly. or you will end up like a dude puking all friggin night! Does not sound worth it to spend any cash on one, i would rather get a nicer pickup for an axe. Shit even a month worth of strings

I'm curious about two things. First is, howcome you have to use those plastic fittings, could you just attach the tube to the horn driver? And Second, how do you actually hook the horn driver up to the amp, so the sound will come thru the tube. Thanks! :D

Have you tested it with a shorter length? I'm wondering if it'll affect the way it sounds in any way... Great tut tho! I use partsexpress for loads of projects too!

@mrsayao I haven't tested it yet with a shorter length. The only thing that it would effect is the volume. A shorter length = more volume at a lower power and Longer Length = less volume and you have to add more power to get the same volume.

@igotacupprod To be sure we're on the same page, I'm referring to the length of the connector from the driver to the start of the tubing. I've seen a bunch of these made, 1/2 of them have longer adapters and the other 1/2 are connected as close as possible... I guess it's a matter of look and preference? The concept is to basically get to the sound to your mouth as fast as possible. Great build though!

@gaber323 A horn driver is a speaker that basically condenses sound and produces it out of a small outlet. If you have ever seen a PA system or speaker cabinets there is a black horn looking appature at the top. Behind that is a horn driver. Horn drivers are used to make talk boxes, because the sound is so condensed already, it would be very hard to go from a normal 8in speaker cone to a small piece of tubing.
