  • Hold on tight and when you get to the end,tie a knot and hold on.

  • Great classic track here...My uncle's ex would put this album on when they had card parties..and she would prepare the food and me and my cousins would b playin and listening to the great music she had spinning on her turntable.Great memories

  • @popetzm1 Were you guys playing "trump"? And when someone won a book did he slap the cards so hard he knocked all the cards off the table? LOL.

  • Third world smashed the song but the ojays original is so sweet

  • this was made before they was ever a round .this is the real thing

  • I love, love, the O'jays but I like Third World's and Heavy D's better. This version is just a bit slower and more mellow.

  • Check your facts before you put something online. Man-oh-man. You kids . . .

  • what is a heavy D?

    New cupsize in bra,s ?

  • @Choefoe very disrespectful. #Fail

  • @MrKrime What is?

  • @MrKrime That I never heard of Heavy D,,no.I did not. If your offended if I ask for fun ifit,s a new cup ,well lighten up. A woman is allowed to say that;-)

  • These guys were three of the most distinct voices in soul music. A great era when these guys and Harold Melvin and he Bluenotes ruled the airwaves. I completely forgot the O'Jays recorded this song.

  • the ojays, i love you guys for bringing such good music, lots of people dont feel what it is if some could sing to you in person, how thatg feels,..i love to sing and especially if youre sick and someone sing to you with a sweet voice like you guys....wow..keep it up Ojays...dj Panama (mr smooth0

  • RIP HEAVY D. A.K.A. OVERWEIGHT LOVER.

  • RIP Heavy D

  • man i remember dancing to this song on my 3rd birthday in 1994

  • Hell,. I'm 62,,,can you imagine MY frustration??? "had" a long-legged skinny

red headed wife who loved soul music. Wound up in EAST St. Louis at 4:30 am.

We were the only 2 white people in the joint and had a blast.

By the way,,,the Heavy D passed on today,,,

  • Actual third world (the reggae group) did a cover of now that we got love. Heavy D being Jamaican and all, he sampled third world version of the song. His is exactly like third world, the only difference he's rapping. I didn't even know that the O'Jays are the originator of this song. Growing up in the Caribbean I knew third world version. The O'Jays are great.

  • Seems like the late Heavy D and the Boyz are getting the credit for being the originators of this song. I was fooled in a way. I hear about Heavy D and mention of this song and I'm like "there's now way he wrote that great of a melody. He was a rapper." Not dissing on Heavy D, but some of these stories and comments in other videos do make you wonder.

  • @ShelterDogs The song is written by Gamble and Huhh the great producers behind a lot of soul music of the so called philedelphia sound, the song was first redorded by the o,jays and apeared on the albun "ship ahoy"1n 1973

Second cover version is Third world ,that,s from 1978

Heavy D Whom I never heard of,sorry seemed to have recorded in 1991 ;-)

  • @Choefoe That should be Huff not huhh;-)

  • @Choefoe Thanks for that bit of info, Choe. It's actually the Third World version that I've been used to hearing all these years, not the original by the O'Jays. The main choral phrase "now that we found love..." is certainly much catchier in the cover. They bettered the song IMO.

  • @ShelterDogs I like,m both,depend wath mood I,m in,smooth(this one) or swingin;-)

  • HEAVY D RE DID THIS SONG HE DIDNT STEAL SHIT LOL

  • @TheYungBleek , you right, how could he steal it. He would have been sued by the O'Jay. He make the song, I think he was inspired by Third World version. Check out third world version if you haven't.

  • niygiyoi0i-p;uoyt8ghbbvgjgtbikgoik,hlhnk

  • bvmfungu

  • the ojays were formed in 1963 and were originally called the mascots, and were renamed after a dj named eddie ojay who promoted them to fame

  • Ship Ahoy was a great album.. O'Jays *smiles*

  • Correction: I typed too fast on my last comment: The O'Jays were originally formed in 1958 and NOT 1964. Sorry about that.

  • By the way, the group was based in Canton, Ohio. They became known for the Philly Sound when they released Backstabbers back in 1972....The original group was formed in 1964. They have paid their dues and that is also why they were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame....

  • Great song. Written by Gamble and Huff and YES, The O'Jays DID the original. Third World, Heavy D and Martha Reeves all covered the song.....I have both The O'Jays version and Third World's remake of the song in my DJ Collection. I like em both

  • @rcschwaberow1 Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. True R&B songwriting/producing legends!!!

  • because of third world,i,ve found where it came from................love it

  • Not bad, but I prefer the Third World cover.

  • Actually this is an old reggae song from the early 80’s by a group call 3rd world

  • @martha9918 YES. BUT THIS IS THE OOORRIGINAALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • for me the o'jays is the greatest group

  • Whether the youngs kids hear this music here or from samplings eventually, they will follow the song trail, they can piece together the history. But I will say there ain't nothing like the real thing, I like the original versions best 9 times out of 10

  • Faultless,The O'jays at their best. Ship Ahoy is an awesome album.

  • YEAH, what they said...!!!

  • I miss you Ray and until we meet again Love! The OJay's were the best!

  • Refreshing...Luv it. Ole Skol all the way!

  • AND AS FAR AS STEALING IT FROM HEAVY D AND THE BOYS; THE BOYS WERE NOT EVEN HARD ONS WHEN THIS SONG WAS MADE. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SAMPLING? DUH! YOU KNOW, A SILENT TONGUE WILL NEVER BETRAY ITS MASTER. NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW JUST HOW DUMB YOU ARE IF YOU DON'T OPEN YOUR MOUTH...

  • @AKIMSEKU LMAO!!! Is that fool for real or just pushing buttons. I damn near died from laughing at your response. I'm 39 and these kids are so fucking clueless. Get 'em dog!!!

  • @AKIMSEKU lol

  • WTH?!!! BANGIN ON YOUTUBE? WHAT IS WITH THIS EAST COAST WEST COAST SHIT? NEITHER COAST BELONGS TO EITHER OF YOU. THE HOUSE/APT YOU LIVE IN DON'T EVEN BELONG TO YOU. YOU DON'T OWN NO LAND. HOW YOU GONNA CLAIM SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU? THIS SONG IS OLDER THAT TUPAC AND DRE WAS STILL SUCKING ON A PACIFIER. AND AS FAR AS IT BEING THE "PHILLY" SOUND, NEITHER ONE OF THEM WERE FROM PHILLY. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST APPRECIATE THE MUSIC OR DON'T LISTEN TO IT.

  • Damn these guys flat out stole this song from Heavy D and The Boys.

  • @JoshDunk LOL!!! (that was a good one)

  • @JoshDunk bahahaha awesome

  • @JoshDunk Damn dude come on are you serious? This was made in 1973. Heavy D and the Boys made their version in 1991. Heavy was probably born in the 70's

  • @JoshDunk You MUST be kidding!!!!

  • Chciałbym do tego zatańczyć na swoim weselu, o ile będę je miał

  • Czyż to nie jest zajebiste?

    No po prostu Wielkie :-)

    Muzyka lat '70 jest niesamowita.

  • Love the cover Ship Ahoy album..this was my favorite ..thanks for the memories

  • I had to step over a few decades of disposable covers to find this gem that was lodged deep in my memories. Thanks for posting!

  • The Ojays: The Best Live Entertainers in the world. If you have ever been to one of their concerts, you'll agree

  • and DEATH ROW rules the motherfuchin world BABY!!!cuz we are tha bad boyz killer!!The STAX spirit!!here are the O jays and we are the OG!!

  • @donenzo1666 : man, calm down. DR dont run nothing but their own catologue. The O'Jays is the Philly Sound, east coast, but for groovy for the whole country. Do you realize half the dudes on DR were just born when the O'Jays re-released this classic? Appreciate the arts and cool-out with that 90s shit. And yes, I', fro Philly, the east coast you hate so much.

  • and DEATH ROW rules the motherfuchin world BABY!!!cuz we are tha bad buy killer!!The STAX spirit!!here are the O jays and we are the OG!!

  • learn somethin new everyday-like this better than Third World that I been listenin 2 since the 80's

  • This was an album cut never released as a single. Third World put a reggae beat to it and had their biggest hit.

  • WADDUP HEAVY D.

  • lovely song :)

    Kim&Seb

  • One of my favorite songs! Thank you.

  • This song was one of many good songs on this great album. I remember buying it on 8-track back in the day and wearing it out.

  • the exchanges of Walter and Eddie, is pure classic. That's why they never left eachother to go solo, true friendship and loyalty.

  • Motown ruled the 60s, Philly International ruled the 70s, Solar, Tommy Boy/ EPIC ran the 80s, Bad Boy 90s.

  • @rufus317 The '80s had additional voices: Motown Hollywood (Teena Marie, Rick James, Lionel Richie); and SOLAR, or Sound of Los Angeles Records, an RCA distribution (Shalamar, The Whispers, Dynasty, Lakeside, Midnight Star, most of whom were produced by Leon Sylvers).

  • Bon titre venez ecouter du lourd sur mon blog ... Romu93700.musique.com !!!!!!! a tt de suite

  • @jookinmus THANK U!!!

  • OMG Gamble/Huff..TSOP..great work by the O'jays
