  • I just heard this song for the first time yesterday...it's beautiful!

  • Beautiful :)

  • what an artist! RIP Gil, you're missed by many

  • anybody know some songs that sampled this? i know someone has but cant remember who

  • "yeah, but where can you run? since there ain't no world of your own. and you know that no one will ever miss you, when you're finally gone. so you cry like a baby, and you go out and get high. but there ain't no peace on earth man. maybe peace when you die, yeah." This cuts thru my heart; he sang the truth for so many. Rest in peace Gil.

  • This sounds autobiographical.

  • I can't stop commenting. What a beautiful tune from a beautiful man. I backorderd "Pieces of Man" from the record store. It hasn't come yet so I will have to listen on You Tube until the CD comes in. This was my favorite album from Gil. I played it to death. I want to hear it all over again. I love every song on this LP.

  • GSH's voice & music is pheonomal This is true music appreciation. Mr. Heron never sold out which explains why he never recieved the acclaim or prestiege of a Stevie Wonder even though he was far more gifted. A true music & lyrical prodigy. He didn't dilute the truth. He chose not to sell his soul. We love you Brother Gil.

  • a beautiful sad song..........r.i.p ...

  • RIP Brother Gil Scott-Heron!!!!!

  • this is big man.. RIP.

  • "The world's full of children

     who grew up too fast."

  • rip.

  • Call NBC to request a story on his death! he passed away yesterday and still nothing has been said or mentioned about him on MSNBC. East coast callers, call 212-664-4444, or for West coast people call 818-777-1000

  • @AugieGK4life Thnx for this info....Everybody call today still!!!! This Man is a Genius with soulful msgs in his music for all of us to indulge in!

  • rip blud xxx

  • @Tiirmanology

You sound like some weird ass shit..

  • The fuckin man!

  • Gil Scott-Heron's haunting Cool Jazz ballad from the album 'Pieces Of A Man'. Gil's deep love for the Cool 50's sound of his idols John Coltrane & Miles Davis are so clear this song in instrumental form could be a session from Mile's 'Kind Of Blue' period.

  • Without sounding self indulgent Gil Scott-Heron's lyrics hold up a mirror to a troubled, inconsolable soul: one crippled with depression, compelled to experience a pain and hopelessness so intense it brings the narrator to his knees. And yet, one who has a hard-earned consciousness of their situation; that understands and is ultimately trapped by the fear of self destruction or painful healing.

  • damn i love this song. i love the supastition version as well.

  • on top of the powerful lyrics, gil's voice added an extra touch. it's so strong and gripping. listening to gil sing his ballads, no matter what they were about, made you feel safe. it's rare to find men that stand on pricipal and morals today.

  • check out the prisoner

  • This song is one of my favourites! I don't suppose anyone has any idea of the chord progression?

  • No... Thank You Pinskip2

Music STILL Means Something If You Believe

  • 1975

  • What Year Was That In Studio City ?

  • I remember first hearing this album in the living room of my friend Coz's house in Studio City, Ca...we sat and listened, in the dark, with a single candle lit, silently, jaws dropping, hearts beating; our withered nerves temporarily soothed by Gil's amazing lyrics and the incredible band's accompaniment...

  • Thanks for sharing that story. I remember when music used to mean something too.

  • @Pinskip2 it still does and always will to someone hopefully haha, i only recently discovered gil 6 months or so ago after shortly after his death after listening to isaac hayes 'hot buttered soul' and al greens 'Let's stay together' albums a lot and wanted something more, at which point my friend played this album whilst we tripped acid... incredible, unforgettable times.

  • @EDWARDLASUVIDA aww mann that was a great story, dam i can image, maybe in a mdcentury modern home after dark .im there!

  • @EDWARDLASUVIDA that sounds like sum wierd ass shit...

  • @EDWARDLASUVIDA . Just the right image; So many times we listened to this brother the same way. Thank you for your heart felt post. Thanks to Pinskip2 for uploading this.

  • @EDWARDLASUVIDA i once took acid too, bro

  • Sheer beauty, great quality upload as the original production is very low on the recording levels. This is definately my favourite Scott-Heron tune.
