I remember SOI back in the day! I was a Fleet Marine trying to lat move to the 03 field. I graduated as 0311 on April 1, 1988 (Double-Time Delta Co.) When I got back to my unit, they denied my transfer...I was pretty pissed, but I've always felt proud to have earned the title of 0311 Rifleman.

Hey is Alpha company still got the reputation as being the hardest, ALPHATRAZ is what they called it when I went through in 92, love it! It was good memories back in the day, and much beer was drank at the e club!!

when you get to SOI you will be in 'reception'. reception is where you will be until you get into a training company for ITB. reception fuckin sucks. you will be doing working parties all the time and god forbid you get put into the guard platoon, you will be there another month doing guard before you get into actual ITB

Even by Marine Corps standards that place is inhumane. 24-48 hour shifts, then maybe two or three interrupted hours of sleep, only to pull another 24-48 again, and again... that can, and does, drive even the best Marines insane. I was there for about a month and went straight to rehab because I developed a few issues. Didn't make it to Bravo for SIX months. I think 1st Sergeant, if you and I had the same one, is a fucking sadist.

I've always wanted to be a marine ever since I was a kid particularly as a grunt but the only thing that bothers me is that I have flat feet its not symptomatic and I havent been advised to get orthotics. Does anyone know if having flat feet will restrict you from becoming an infantryman?

I was a Corpsman with 2/3 and 2/7 out of 62 area in 69-70 and 71-73. While many things have changed, I was surprised at how much seem to remain the same. I remember those humps, especially the one from 62 up to Case Springs ( I think that's the name). Oh my aching feet.

I've always wanted to be a marine ever since I was a kid particularly as a grunt but the only thing that bothers me is that I have flat feet its not symptomatic and I havent been advised to get orthotics. Does anyone know if having flat feet will restrict you from becoming an infantryman?

I was a Corpsman with 2/3 and 2/7 out of 62 area in 69-70 and 71-73. While many things have changed, I was surprised at how much seem to remain the same. I remember those humps, especially the one from 62 up to Case Springs ( I think that's the name). Oh my aching feet.
