I don't know why, but the (in the orignal version) lack of dedicated anti air was so refreshing to me. I hate in modern games when there is a rock-paper-scissors system that arbitrarily decides only one unit's weapons can shoot at aircraft, but somehow are not able to shoot at horizontal targets.

Oh man.. I so wish I'd still have this game! THE best RTS imo. I've never experienced such an epic feeling when battling hordes of bots with this music.

I still remember the huge, almost endless battle I had once on sea. I had used up the unit cap with only ships and airplanes, the enemy with just as many. The fight went on for a good hour of constant battle, struggling to keep new ships'n'planes beeing built. I was is in a complete rush of happiness during that whole time. Ah the memories...

@frysmaktoff hey.. not advertising or anything, just saying this to help you out. i actually have a video on downloading total annihilation and its two expansion packs for free. check it out if you want, but just so you know, the crack i found has NO MUSIC FILES. it only has battle sound files, you know, like the robots attacking each other, but it doesn't have any music. check it out

@DarkestJade Thats because the game played Music from CD. If you wanted to play music without CD you had to put the files into a certain dictionary with a certain name.

Arm = better early game (Flash, Peewee)

You mean the Fido? Yeah, the L2 Kbots aren't bad but the Morty still outranges them, and it only takes 3 shots of plasma cannon to kill one Fido. Mavericks can only hurt up close.

True. But they still are fast assult (but weak) and powerful with air support to protect them.

The other thing is Morty can fire over obstacles, Fido's shot is flat and usually blocked by wreckage in the way. That said, if you beat the Core player to level 2, a pack of bulldog tanks in the right place can create a gap for the other units.
