I think there tears of happiness not tears of fear, his friends have my total respect for such a speedy rescue. ive beem skiing for over 10 years now and have skied solo twice before stupidly, thankfully this has never happened to me but i will never ever ski solo again after watching that horible experiance. hes lucky to be alive.
One of the first things you should do once you get a clear passage to the victim' head is try and get a pacifier into their mouth. That will help reduce the crying.
He is not necessarily crying. I believe he is wearing an Avalung, which is a commonly carried safety device for the backcountry that allows you to breath when youre completely buried. Every time you take a breath from the Avalung it makes a strange whiny noise, JUST LIKE THE SOUND YOU HEAR IN THIS VIDEO. This guy is very lucky to be alive, and lucky he had friends who could carry out such an efficient rescue. I dont believe he was crying, but I wouldnt make fun of him if he was.
Last year my dads boss go caught in an avalanche and the weight of the snow crushed his pelvis completely and he couldn't walk for over 6 months. One of my dads other friend was caught in an avalanche in Alta 10 years ago and didn't make it out alive. Your lucky to survive
Man you don't know how easy it is to panic and then you need more air! I imagine he is just shaking all over after he got dug out. Adrenaline would be pumping through his veins.
You guys think you wouldn't cry in a situation like that? Well that just shows how inexperienced you are. When you are buried like that, you have no control of what's happening to you. The farthest goal you can accomplish is to survive long enough for someone to rescue you. And trust me, you don't have long. As an experienced back country skier, I know this could happen to me. I farther know that it is a mistake to assume you will stay calm when comes for you.
@MrButball its true...when you buried alive..you cannot move your shoulder and all parts of your body..... .cos all mass of the snow is in you.. sorry bad english =)
@MrButball Also not to mention that since those rigid, completely straight skis are totally strapped to his feet, they probably mangled the SHIT out of his ankles as they were tumbling down the mountain... which would result in some obviously excruciating pain.
I was skiing alone at Kirkwood march 2006. Lots of fresh, about 25 feet over a couple of weeks. A tree caught my arm and i was flipped backward ending upsidedown next to a tree. It got dark quick as all the snow caved in and I think fell off the tree .I wanted to panic but I could breathe. I musta hung there for 5 mins until I manged to get my arm up and released my bindings one at a time, got my feet below me and out. Do not ski alone. I was lucky and could have died right there had I panicked.
"This is intense! I'm doing it, I'm really doing it! Man, you were right, Dave! This really gets the old blood going an- Hey, real quick: Mountains are supposed to crack, right?"
When that snow settles, it sets like concrete. He has absolutely no movement under that snow, notice how his hands don't move at all when he gets exposed. I'd have cried too, its instinct when you KNOW you should have died.
Am I the only one who thinks that he has his mouth full of snow so he desperetly tries to catch his breath while his friends are preparing to dig him out? He has his hands bound to the poles (veeery stupid) that are in the snow so he cannot move with his hands? And the last move of his friend . . . he has probably finally noticed that and cleared his mouth . . .

@AppleFender Everyone would have cried bro. The people who says "I wont cry.. He's a pussy" is even a fucking idiot, or don't have much in life to be happy for and doesn't care if they die.
I watched the full video, he was stuck under the snow for 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I would have shit bricks, cried and cried again untill I either died or got rescued.
@Feonalilly Get out of your room, up to the mountains, get an Avalanche to roll over you, lie there for 4 minutes and 30 seconds, get up again, and tell me you didn't cry you fucking idiot.
@Feonalilly Ya so don't be calling him a bitch cause you can't even ski down that mountain. And of course I couldn't do that either but I'm not the one putting a guy down for no reason.
One of the many reasons to carry a sexton with you when doing winter sports. It helps you find the angle of the slope you are going to go on which is usually very vital. Almost 90% of all avalanches occur between 30-50 degree angles.
Unreal... I didn't think the quality of the vid would be any good, but that wasn't too bad.
This shows why if you ski down a slope where you could have a possible avalanche you go one at a time, and if you are one of the first you go all the way out of the avalanche field.

What a little bitch. I wasn't going to say it but then it shows that he knew other people were there. Maybe you can cry when you think you'll have to wait until spring.
@Coribec well, remember, that a few moments before that he probably thought he may die right here! Sure, thay dug him his airway, but after that, they were putting the shovls together and he was forced to remain there, unable to move his legs, hands or head as they were still buried, with the walls od snow all around - still in shock after being literally scared of his life
AHHHH!! lilrocker62@ SHUT HTE FUCK UPP"=!!! srsly wtf! he could've been death, just cuz u do nothing instead of sitting infront of ur pc screen thinking ur a tough internet geek dosent give u the right to fucking troll other people, just cause they start crying, he prolly cries cuz he's so happy that his alive, and it just stroke him how serious this could've been.
I live here in Alaska and it is a bit sketchy to go on those mountains here that is why I stick to alyeska and if I want to go off cliff and crap just go down north face christmas and new years chute or high and low traverse on chair 6
After a minute or so when they cleared his head out, it almost seemed like it turned to excited laughter from the shock of almost dying and finding out that he was probably going to live after all.
@CymroGoch I don't even think he is crying. I think he has snow stuffed down his throat; pretty common in a serious avalanche. He could also be trying to catch his breath but it sounds like he trying to communicate but can't. Not being able to move with snow down your throat is a freaky thing.

I have no doubt he could breathe by then, the muffled sound of his voice was probably a face mask, scarf, or his jacket if it had a high padded collar.
@Kiwirnango I don't think his crying. To me it seems more like he's really happy to have survived and is doing that thing that douches do when they dance or whatever. You know, that wooohooo sounds. And to back me up, it seems like he is having lots of fun with his hands near the end.

Just finished Basic Avalanche safety Course this weekend. The rescue was textbook. The skier is lucky to be alive. His buddies did everything perfect. Found his location (possibly by beacon), got his airway clear (most important), stayed calm and dug him out aggressively. Scary, SCARY vid!
so at 1:34 was he still buried? his hands were out they could have used their fucking hands to shovel the snow out inssted of rocking a piss in the backround
This guy got buried on argentina too.. i think he is kinda wreckless.. tg, for the ARVA..

Just finished Basic Avalanche safety Course this weekend. The rescue was textbook. The skier is lucky to be alive. His buddies did everything perfect. Found his location (possibly by beacon), got his airway clear (most important), stayed calm and dug him out aggressively. Scary, SCARY vid!

he was not still buried! Its just, that you uncover the face of a avalanche victim at first, and then the rest of its body!
