@thunderjeep08 I have a mercedes ML 350 and its the 2008 model,,, it drives better than a 4L prado which is a pretty good car, however judging by your name i would say you are a jeep fan and by no means did i say that the ML is a better off roader than the jeep, come on compare apples to apples please... i still have the car and it still runs great even after my trips to the desert, only took it to the dealer for its annual checkups, cheers :)

In my expirience you dont need lots of modern stuff. All you need is AWD some good tires and free space around all tires 25% of torque on each tire is all you need (4:1) the magic number and maybe as a bonus some lockers and a good loose suspension.

4wd and awd are basicly the same thing exept that with awd theirs no input from the drivers part

no they arent, trust me. My dad owns an AWD explorer, and I have a 4WD wrangler. the difference is that AWD is always on, some systems are now sensored, but it is made for rain or snow, not off roadding. 4WD has the drivers input and has a 4WD lo and hi option which AWD doesnt have. In 4WD hi all 4 wheels are engaged and allows wheels to have the same power, and 4WD lo is low gearing for mud or heavy off slow off roading. Not being a jerk, just explaining to you.

Well I have a atv 350 with awd i have gone off roading with jeeps h1 and all kinds of stuff and i never have had to use the winch and plus even if it dosent have low it can still have 4:1 torquein firts gear the wrangler and the explorer are on tottaly different marktes The wrangler is off road designed

yes I know that they are different, thats why I compaired them. I dont know much about ATVs, but I know in SUVs and Trucks, AWD is not the way to go off road. they dont even make a Wrangler in AWD thank god, if they did then that would be a diss to jeep, even though the new unlimited comes in 2wd *tear*

Yeah jeeps are the best my forester does good in mud and water i changed the suspension and the tires which makes its off road capabilities much better!!! But nothing beats my Rubicicon!!

Ok the thing is that their is always a mud pit not a mud trail, when you cross a river you cross from one point to another you never go through the river so what I did is I bought some land and did a water river and a mud river I made one for ATV and one for SUVs Then I put a rock crawling area and a sand area and it was a great hit

are you retarded? Stock is best, Jeep made the car for offroading, not to be altered so that it can go offroading, stock is better. Also, if you get higher suspension, you will probably tip over. Stock there is little chance of rolling unless climbing rocks

Thanks, but the 2005 ML is the far mor expensive car than the 1997 Wrangler. And since both are personal cars and not rented or sponsored, I didn't intend to risk too them.

In fact the Jeep is the more rugged car - and through far better approach and departure angles it is the less risky car for rugged terrain. Although I love the ML. Btw in Dubai nobody believes that a Merc is any good for the desert anyways - which I hope to prove wrong
