Make fun of the eighties, but hey if i could go back to that decade i do it in a hard beat. There was a time when you could go dancing for hours, people today do even have a clue on good music......when artist had a craft of real performing and not the studio covering up......Hail to the eighties and 90's.
This song and video is amazing! I wonder why it didn't become a bigger hit...However the rest of the "Ross" album is average and not perfectly produced.
I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS VIDEO WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. IT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME!!! WHEN I LOOK AT IT NOW, IT WAS A REAL GOOD VIDEO. THEY DON'T MAKE VIDEOS LIKE THAT ANYMORE
the concept for this video was fantastic. She is a performer and delivers. She is not one of my favorite singers but i appreciate her talent and style.!
@xSiouXBoix LOL! Too funny! Did you ever heard the Supremes' "bad drug music album", known commercially as "Reflections"? It's quite good, but the songs on the first side are all so whacked out...
@BlogShag by this stage diana had sung her fair share of meaningful ballads...just a year or two before she had the beautiful it's my turn. this was an atmospheric song with a really whacky filmclip that worked for me.
Guilty pleasure. Yummy and delicious. Don't make fun. The song lingers with you and gets under your skin. Radio didn't have patience with this one. Play the long version and you will want press repeat single.
The song and video are CRAZY. But what we love about Ross is that she was never afraid to reach outside of her comfort zone. It may have seemed avant-grade at first glance but in the end it was just ridiculous. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. And she is stil a peerless entertainer. .
WTF!!! Miss Ross WHY!! this was dredful. You got some dancing skills girl, and that's was salvaged this dreary affair. The song was a bit confusing, How does something look like "Tunisia". I don't know about this..........
@DaveWollenberg Great! with all the vicious comments left on here, one would think it didn't do anything on the charts. I loved the song/video, i thought it was way ahead of it's time.
That being said, her RCA material did very well in the US. "Swept" actually sold over a million, but RCA never got it certified past gold. Same with "Ross" which sold a half million, but RCA didn't pony the money to get it gold. "Silk" sold over 700 thousand copies, "Fools" sold almost two million. The only two that didn't do well was "Eaten" and "red" which sold over 250 thousand each.
Diana gets a lot of negative flack for her RCA material, but the truth of the matter is that her recording career (even at Motown) has never been consistent. She was never able to maintain a steady stream of hit records like she did with the Supremes.
80's video's could be corny, this is no exception. But i wouldn't trade the MTV of the 80's for the MTV today for nothing!
Now Ms. Ross, Girl. What was this? the song hardly makes any lyrical sense, and the costoms were OMG!. But girl you got some serious skills as a dancer.
I totally agree with you.. As a matter of fact, Mtv should just drop the "M" altogether... So sad cuz Mtv was da shit for all that was hip, cool, and music.. I guess all good things really must come to an end..
80's videos were awesome! Some people laugh at them, but they had a hell of a lot more imagination than the mechanical boring videos of today - you know how it goes these days: artist in front, 8 backup dancers behind the artist, everyone doing robotic dance moves, etc. It's all so repetitive.
agreed!! i get so tired of everyone imitating thriller or whatever...what made thriller fresh was that it WAS fresh and new...now it's just overused (the choreography).........
The reason they laugh is because they don't want to admit that there is meaning and magic in these 80's videos. They laugh because they know they can't come up with great works of art.
Timmy, i cant believe I found you on youtube commenting on Pieces of Ice. I just ordered your new book on Amazon today, of the same title. Congrats to you.
I know! But I think she does it because this wasn't the "typical" Diana Ross song. This was a "trying to keep up with the 80's" song, which was HOT back in the day. Hell I still have the 12" version.
I have been a fan of Diana Ross since 1981 and I must say that one must put back this song in its context : that of the early eighties with Kim Carnes's Voyeur, Billy Ocean and the Jackson's Torture.
It was a very new sound at that time and it is a song I love playing at nightime as it certainly has a sound of its own when I drive. I saw Diana in concert 3 times and 3 times I loved it. She is a great Performer and such a inspirational Black American Icon !!!
The song is basically trying to encapsulate the feeling of having a distant lover who is cold when you are ready to begin lovemaking...it is so great to see movement and abstract creativity in a video...one that allows you to make practical application to whatever your mind can create from this stimuli...I could totally see Janet re-doing this and adding her touch to this choreography in her career at this time it may not be a bad move to take a bit of a risk but return to what made her...
I saw this video back in 1986 before I left for the UK at my uncle's apartment on BET. I thought this was a new hit of hers at the time, boy was I was wrong! LOL. And then I heard an AT40 show from Aug. of 1983 and Diana got special accidental treatment. She was supposed to have fallen out of the Top 40 all the way to #45 on the Hot 100. Keri Tombazian said it was #38 when it was actually Charlie's "It's Inevitable". Casey apologized the following week for the error.
Wow, I had forgotten about this tune. I loved it when it was released. Of course, I was a diehard, stalker of a Ross fan...still am, actually. Having said that, this was an odd song and even odder video. But, lets give it up for Ross for being unique and and offering up something different! She's the queen and can do no wrong!
of course you forgot about this tune cause diana wants everyone to forget she released this garbage. she never does it in her shows but then why would she. as bad as it is its better than Beaten Alive ...I mean eaten alive, and swept away, (just like her career after releasing these note worthy gems.)
LOL You're right, she probably does wish people would forget she ever released this tune. But, I think the reason she doesn't perform it is because it wasn't a major hit...kinda like Beaten Alive and Swept Away. I don't know of any performer that includes non-hits in their set lists. Even though her later releases were not considered "hits" compared to her earlier work, she managed to survive the 80's and 90's. By any standard, she's had an incredible career.
This video is so 80's avant garde, I love it no matter what haters write. 1983 was the year I was born and I don't view the things from that era as dated, but rather nostalgically innocent. And by looking at the shit MTV airs today, well I feel vids like this are sadly missed. Some of you may feel the song is corny, but maybe you don't fit into the demographic of what Diana was catering to. I personally like this tune, but I love disco and dance music so I fit into the group she was aiming for.
Thanks for the info, Azone01. I always wondered if Diana and The Jacksons used the same set here. It is almost identical to one another, but that's just me.
Come on !! its not that bad.. It reminds me of Ann-Margret in vegas all breathy and sex-kittened up. I like the song its in a time warp true but its still cool
this is the kind of music(shit) that her producers and Berry Gordy warned her to stay away from,... but she wouldn't listen, now i bet she's embarrased as hell for her stuborness.
I thought Torture came out later, though. Isn't Victory from 1984? The Ross album had to be like late 1983, I suppose. I wonder if they dealt with the same director, though.
Well, I bought the "Ross" album off of Ebay and gave it a listen this week, and wow, it's a lousy album. It's no wonder it flopped. The majority of the songs have a late 70's sound, which made it sound out of date by the time 1983 came and synths and new wave was popular. This was the only synth driven song on the album. The rest of the songs just sound like a bunch of Motown rejects.
I never bought the whole ROSS album. I was afraid "Pieces of Ice" would be the only song I liked.
I got the 12-inch single---mainly for the 7-minute Instrumental version on Side-B. I think the music is wonderful, But the lyrics are kind of distracting.
I wish the instrumental version was available on CD. Or at least on i-Tunes...
Well, I know most of you hate her RCA stuff, but that was actually my favorite period of hers (solo-wise anyway). The thing is the singles from the RCA years were good, but the albums as a whole sucked. Like the "Eaten Alive" album - the title track was great, but the rest of the album sucked. From Red Hot, Dirty Looks was great, but the rest of the album sucked. So I like the singles, but the albums as a whole were poor. I agree her contract was not worth $20 million. I'm sure RCA lost money.
Diana has always been more of a singles artist. With the exception of the "diana" album, the majority of her albums are simply filler other than the singles. By the time she returned to Motown in 1989, it was already too late, because Motown wasn't sh1t at that point, and she tried to jump on the New Jack Swing bandwagon with the "Working Overtime" album, which was just embarassing.
Working overtime is horrible thats when im sure she knew she could stick a fork in it she was done. She should have worked with the same people instead of hoping around town and doing what she wanted, people should have let her know.
Walking blind across this silver room Looking through a smoke menagerie Looking at your face inside of me In the darkness you're tunisia Nights are long entropic I can't seem to cope It's cold when I look in your eyes Where the zebra lightning strikes the room Foreign words are strutted through the gloom Women swooping down like birds of prey Never close but never far away
Oh, I don't know. It's not that bad. Given that most eighties music videos were G*d awful I think this counts as a noble failure. In fact I wish she had tried harder to go beyond her image as a Las Vegas diva. The failures might have stretched her to become an even better artist.
after that her material choices became awful, she was determined to do the kind of music that berry wouldn't let her do because he knew it was wrong for her, afterall he created her (image) at least. she never wanted to listen to him i.e. the wiz and we all knew how awful that venture was. all the while he just had her best interests at heart. i think she realizes that now.
yeah she dated him and ever since she started trying to add that horrid screaming guitar in most of her songs, her way of being a rocker i suppose? actually her 1st rca album sold more than the diana album, mostly due to hype and a loyal fan base that loved her motown stuff especially her diana album.
by this time the public had grown leary of her albums and i don't think it would have mattered which single was released it wouldn't have sold. it didn't help to have her on a album cover with a scowling look on her face. she hasn't smiled on an album cover since 1977;
I posted the lyrics i cannot make sense of this song at all, she was insanse to release this as a single, the video and song MAKE NO SENSE And arent relatable
she seldom if ever includes any of the rca material in her shows today with a few exceptions of course. chain reaction was not a hit in the usa although it was in the uk.
WOULD YOU INCLUDE THIS CRAP, i mean in all seriousness this song doesnt even show her vocal talent and not to mention i still cannot figure out what this song is about or what it means, and the video is very distracting with all the halloween costumes
lol, she didn't even bother trying to use any vocal ability in this song. and by now no producer was going to challenge her to do so. and she was in this period where she had to have loud guitars xreaching in her songs. rock guitar is obviously out of pladce in her music . i maybe beause she dated gene simmons.
I forgot she dated him i guess she was going through all sorts of phases in the 80's shame it cost her her career, i think her last platinum album was DIANA way back in 1980 -.-
her biggest mistake was leaving berry/motown for the 20 million rca deal, yeh she made 20 million but it cost her her recording career. who would have thought that after 3 yrs at rca diana would no longer be heard on american radio?
she was finally able to do all of the music that Berry Gordy wouldn't allow and for good reason. and it came out like this. Bet RCA regretted the day it forked out 15 million for this kind of crap.
Don't just blame RCA - Diana had her share of flops with Motown as well: The albums Baby It's Me, Ross ('78), The Boss, and the duets album with Marvin Gaye were all poor sellers. Diana's career has always basically been hit or miss no matter which label she's with. With RCA, she had hits with Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Muscles, Swept Away, and Chain Reaction was a UK #1 and Work That Body was a Top 10 in the UK as well. As far as Pieces of Ice, yes, the video's stupid, but the song is good.
the difference being quality, if you listen to some of those poor selling motown albums like baby its me, they're some of her best work, the marvin gaye album is considered a classic today and the boss is also considered one of her best albums today. none of her rca material even comes close in quality even if it did sell more copies after her 2nd rca album she put out really bad stuff with the exception of "missing you" none of that rca material stands the test of time; old motown does.
@yimheretoday Totally agree! At least flop albums that are great can be rediscovered years later and reassessed, and respected for their quality. The RCA years were wacky. I do LOVE and ADORE the visuals to this video though! It's stunning.
@cbann88 Nope. Motown owed her $250,000. That was her severance check. Not much, considering how many records she had sold overall, but I think that the high costs of promoting her evened it out.
How dare you all call this a piece of shit,at this point she was trying to create edgy contemporary music.Ok she made a mistake but with her incredible track record I think one fuck up is allowed LOL Its kinda fun though.
Listen youngster you were not even around when this song was pumping on the tapedeck zoomiing down the freeway in LA so dont be hatin on PIECES OF ICE its a masterpiece.
Compare this to Upside DOwn or Love Hangover, and tell me this is a "Master Piece" And i feel sorry for you pumping this horrid song you should have thrown that tape in the trash, you have to wonder why diana doesnt perform these songs
lol, neither april fools or halloween.... what was she thinking? this is supposed to be a seriously choreographed danced number lol didn't she see the out-takes or the daily's while they were shooting. surely she saw how ridiculous she looked. still pretty though.
wonder if making a video with these halloween costumes was her attempt to duplicate "Thriller" she did it in the even worse "Eaten Alive" she should have been "Beaten Alive" for making such horridly embarrassing garbage.
This video came out before Thrller. "Pieces Of Ice" came out in the late summer of 1983. Michael defintley did'nt copy Diana because he was wprking on Thriller for quite a hot minute. As much as I love Diana, she was disillusioned when she put out music videos cause alot of them during the RCA years were uncreative and bizzare.
The Thriller album was released in November 30, 1982, but the Thriller video came out in December 1, 1983. "Pieces of Ice" video came out in the late summer of 1983 (before "Thriller" video), but whos counting, we just know that this came out one year before "Torture" and was far lowbudgeted than "Torture"
You're BOTH idiots, as a Top 40 charting song IS a hit, not to mention the fact that it peaked in the Top 20 on the R&B and Dance charts too..this song is/was hot and is DIFFERENT than the same boring stuff she performs from her Motown days. Grow the fuck up and get over yourserf, cause you're the dumbest Supreme fan I've ran across and have the music knack of an 8 year old...this diverse sound of Ross is one of THE BETTER sounds in music, especially urban music, as it NEEDED to be different.
@BrandyKluxKlan Pretty major, but could have been bigger. Someone posted the US stats, so I'll just add that it did very well in Canada: #8 Pop, #1 AC. Also #3 in Italy for some reason. I never understood why Ross & Iglesias didn't record a Spanish version! That would have been hot and ahead of its time!
I don't know, but this song/video is far better than any GHETTO LOW BUDGET, PISS POOR, BITCH-ASS-FLOP QUALITY HORSE SHIT that Mary J. Blige would EVER try!! HA HA! Blige is SOO through, and I know you're MaryAllah. Just know that Diana is a REAL artist, and not some neighborhood R&B concert FILLER artist that Mary is. She's TERRIBLE and continues to FLOP..album..after album..after album!!! HA HA HA HA! Dumb bitch
BITCH do i look like cdior im a brandy fan was cdior a b randy fanyou moron so comments about mary dont hurt me you ignorant moron i love goddess diana
Maybe like Diana Ross in 1983, I wasn't thinking how bad is the crap of so-called music video really was. Thanks to you SARAHBM....i'll pleasure you and remove it from my favorite list.
who produced this trash? while diana was refusing to work with her former producers Michael Masser & A&S Whitney Houston decided to give Masser a try and look what happened.... smash hits, while diana was jumping around on pieces of dry ice with dancers in halloween costumes. I bet she so embarrassed when she looks back at this period in her life, she doesn't use these songs in her nostalgia show today.
SHe should be this wasnt ground breaking this was trash, no one bought this album because of this shit, i mean compare this song to aint no mountain high enough, compare this to upside down and than you see this isnt pieces of ice this is pieces of SHIT
she was totally lost during this point in her career and determined not to listen to anyone determined to reject doing the kind of music that brought her chart topping success in favor of this "what ever you call it" garbage. diana has mega talent but one thing she lacks on her own is the ability to pick a hit. so for the most part she hasn't had one since she ditched Gordy.
If this song was so great by some accounts why did it flop? The Ross lp was a good album that went nowhere because the first single released flopped! to you folks understand.. There were at least 5 songs better than this trash on that lp..
@konumers I agree! "Let's Go Up" was luscious and hit-worthy. And the "Up Front" REMIX in the UK by Jolley & Swain took that song to another level. "That's How You Start Over" - OVAH!!! All hit-worthy :)
I don't know if it was intended for this to seem funny, but I find it to be. I guess it's Diana's version of the Lightning Strikes video by Klaus Nomi.
Diana stated she didn't even know what this song meant so how can the rest of us? it's horrid and beneath her as a diva to parade around with dancers in halloween costumes. who ever was advising her in this period of her career should have been shot. oh that's right she was in charge of her career then. yuk
Diana at this point in her career and also as an RCA artist was really trying to create new edgy and contemporary music. She used Hall and Oates,MJ himself,Bee Gees gotta love her for trying. She looks sensational in this video and and I still think its a great song very danceable look in my book the woman can do no wrong,so what if this song wasnt a huge hit they all have some weak songs, she remains the greatest female performer of the century.
I have always loved this song but the vid is awful!

The reason they laugh is because they don't want to admit that there is meaning and magic in these 80's videos. They laugh because they know they can't come up with great works of art.

It's inexcusable that Diana ignores this hot single on all of her compiliation CDs.
Branigan4ever 2 years ago
I know! But I think she does it because this wasn't the "typical" Diana Ross song. This was a "trying to keep up with the 80's" song, which was HOT back in the day. Hell I still have the 12" version.

Hi Guys
I have been a fan of Diana Ross since 1981 and I must say that one must put back this song in its context : that of the early eighties with Kim Carnes's Voyeur, Billy Ocean and the Jackson's Torture.
It was a very new sound at that time and it is a song I love playing at nightime as it certainly has a sound of its own when I drive. I saw Diana in concert 3 times and 3 times I loved it. She is a great Performer and such a inspirational Black American Icon !!!

i like this comment....and i also like the video, i think videos were more entertaining back then, at least most were
miamivicepastels83 2 years ago 2
The song is basically trying to encapsulate the feeling of having a distant lover who is cold when you are ready to begin lovemaking...it is so great to see movement and abstract creativity in a video...one that allows you to make practical application to whatever your mind can create from this stimuli...I could totally see Janet re-doing this and adding her touch to this choreography in her career at this time it may not be a bad move to take a bit of a risk but return to what made her...
rodneyj2 2 years ago
rodneyj2, oh, is THAT what the song is about? After 27 years I finally found out!! Thanks much.

GospelAccording2ME 3 years ago
of course you forgot about this tune cause diana wants everyone to forget she released this garbage. she never does it in her shows but then why would she. as bad as it is its better than Beaten Alive ...I mean eaten alive, and swept away, (just like her career after releasing these note worthy gems.)
yimheretoday 3 years ago
LOL You're right, she probably does wish people would forget she ever released this tune. But, I think the reason she doesn't perform it is because it wasn't a major hit...kinda like Beaten Alive and Swept Away. I don't know of any performer that includes non-hits in their set lists. Even though her later releases were not considered "hits" compared to her earlier work, she managed to survive the 80's and 90's. By any standard, she's had an incredible career.
GospelAccording2ME 3 years ago
This video is so 80's avant garde, I love it no matter what haters write. 1983 was the year I was born and I don't view the things from that era as dated, but rather nostalgically innocent. And by looking at the shit MTV airs today, well I feel vids like this are sadly missed. Some of you may feel the song is corny, but maybe you don't fit into the demographic of what Diana was catering to. I personally like this tune, but I love disco and dance music so I fit into the group she was aiming for.

this is the kind of music(shit) that her producers and Berry Gordy warned her to stay away from,... but she wouldn't listen, now i bet she's embarrased as hell for her stuborness.
yimheretoday 3 years ago 2
I thought Torture came out later, though. Isn't Victory from 1984? The Ross album had to be like late 1983, I suppose. I wonder if they dealt with the same director, though.
83survivor 3 years ago
Well, I bought the "Ross" album off of Ebay and gave it a listen this week, and wow, it's a lousy album. It's no wonder it flopped. The majority of the songs have a late 70's sound, which made it sound out of date by the time 1983 came and synths and new wave was popular. This was the only synth driven song on the album. The rest of the songs just sound like a bunch of Motown rejects.
SoXfused 3 years ago

SoXfused 3 years ago
Diana has always been more of a singles artist. With the exception of the "diana" album, the majority of her albums are simply filler other than the singles. By the time she returned to Motown in 1989, it was already too late, because Motown wasn't sh1t at that point, and she tried to jump on the New Jack Swing bandwagon with the "Working Overtime" album, which was just embarassing.
SoXfused 3 years ago
Working overtime is horrible thats when im sure she knew she could stick a fork in it she was done. She should have worked with the same people instead of hoping around town and doing what she wanted, people should have let her know.

cbann88 3 years ago
Oh, I don't know. It's not that bad. Given that most eighties music videos were G*d awful I think this counts as a noble failure. In fact I wish she had tried harder to go beyond her image as a Las Vegas diva. The failures might have stretched her to become an even better artist.
lamoneal 3 years ago
after that her material choices became awful, she was determined to do the kind of music that berry wouldn't let her do because he knew it was wrong for her, afterall he created her (image) at least. she never wanted to listen to him i.e. the wiz and we all knew how awful that venture was. all the while he just had her best interests at heart. i think she realizes that now.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
yeah she dated him and ever since she started trying to add that horrid screaming guitar in most of her songs, her way of being a rocker i suppose? actually her 1st rca album sold more than the diana album, mostly due to hype and a loyal fan base that loved her motown stuff especially her diana album.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
I think Love Will Make It Right should've been the main single.
Koach127 3 years ago
by this time the public had grown leary of her albums and i don't think it would have mattered which single was released it wouldn't have sold. it didn't help to have her on a album cover with a scowling look on her face. she hasn't smiled on an album cover since 1977;
yimheretoday 3 years ago
What would you call the duet between her and julio iglesisas? was it a flop or was it succesful?
cbann88 3 years ago
I posted the lyrics i cannot make sense of this song at all, she was insanse to release this as a single, the video and song MAKE NO SENSE And arent relatable
cbann88 3 years ago
she seldom if ever includes any of the rca material in her shows today with a few exceptions of course. chain reaction was not a hit in the usa although it was in the uk.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
WOULD YOU INCLUDE THIS CRAP, i mean in all seriousness this song doesnt even show her vocal talent and not to mention i still cannot figure out what this song is about or what it means, and the video is very distracting with all the halloween costumes
cbann88 3 years ago
lol, she didn't even bother trying to use any vocal ability in this song. and by now no producer was going to challenge her to do so. and she was in this period where she had to have loud guitars xreaching in her songs. rock guitar is obviously out of pladce in her music . i maybe beause she dated gene simmons.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
I forgot she dated him i guess she was going through all sorts of phases in the 80's shame it cost her her career, i think her last platinum album was DIANA way back in 1980 -.-
cbann88 3 years ago
her biggest mistake was leaving berry/motown for the 20 million rca deal, yeh she made 20 million but it cost her her recording career. who would have thought that after 3 yrs at rca diana would no longer be heard on american radio?
yimheretoday 3 years ago
she was finally able to do all of the music that Berry Gordy wouldn't allow and for good reason. and it came out like this. Bet RCA regretted the day it forked out 15 million for this kind of crap.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
Don't just blame RCA - Diana had her share of flops with Motown as well: The albums Baby It's Me, Ross ('78), The Boss, and the duets album with Marvin Gaye were all poor sellers. Diana's career has always basically been hit or miss no matter which label she's with. With RCA, she had hits with Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Muscles, Swept Away, and Chain Reaction was a UK #1 and Work That Body was a Top 10 in the UK as well. As far as Pieces of Ice, yes, the video's stupid, but the song is good.
SoXfused 3 years ago 2
the difference being quality, if you listen to some of those poor selling motown albums like baby its me, they're some of her best work, the marvin gaye album is considered a classic today and the boss is also considered one of her best albums today. none of her rca material even comes close in quality even if it did sell more copies after her 2nd rca album she put out really bad stuff with the exception of "missing you" none of that rca material stands the test of time; old motown does.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
@yimheretoday Totally agree! At least flop albums that are great can be rediscovered years later and reassessed, and respected for their quality. The RCA years were wacky. I do LOVE and ADORE the visuals to this video though! It's stunning.

HEY my fav album is the boss and it was only 200K from platinum which is good in my opinion
cbann88 3 years ago
Isnt it true she was in debt to motown for many millions when she left them?
cbann88 3 years ago
@cbann88 Nope. Motown owed her $250,000. That was her severance check. Not much, considering how many records she had sold overall, but I think that the high costs of promoting her evened it out.
SmoothCinnamonX 1 year ago

I think i have one of these costumes what a perfect treat for halloween lol
cbann88 3 years ago
wonder if making a video with these halloween costumes was her attempt to duplicate "Thriller" she did it in the even worse "Eaten Alive" she should have been "Beaten Alive" for making such horridly embarrassing garbage.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
And what is up with the dance scene in this video, please tell me she wasnt serious? was this like a aprils fools or halloween joke?
cbann88 3 years ago
This video came out before Thrller. "Pieces Of Ice" came out in the late summer of 1983. Michael defintley did'nt copy Diana because he was wprking on Thriller for quite a hot minute. As much as I love Diana, she was disillusioned when she put out music videos cause alot of them during the RCA years were uncreative and bizzare.
Azone01 3 years ago
no thriller was released before this. but you're right ab out Ross' videos being delusional.
yimheretoday 3 years ago
The Thriller album was released in November 30, 1982, but the Thriller video came out in December 1, 1983. "Pieces of Ice" video came out in the late summer of 1983 (before "Thriller" video), but whos counting, we just know that this came out one year before "Torture" and was far lowbudgeted than "Torture"

I bet she so embarrassed when she looks back at this period in her life, she doesn't use these songs in her nostalgia show today.

she was totally lost during this point in her career and determined not to listen to anyone determined to reject doing the kind of music that brought her chart topping success in favor of this "what ever you call it" garbage. diana has mega talent but one thing she lacks on her own is the ability to pick a hit. so for the most part she hasn't had one since she ditched Gordy.
