It's thanks to Sullivan that' Man of La Mancha" took off so well. The show was doing okay but not brisk business when Sullivan caught a performance. He loved it so much, he talked about it on his show and insisted on having Kiley on to perform, which led to the show becoming a hit. Good for him championing this.
if anyone wants to see him sing the comlplete song search( richard kiley - tony awards -the timpssable dream ) thats where i found it ,best wishes enjoy
@bairns1234 & @Lobsterboyman Peter O'Toole did not sing his part in Man of La Mancha. A man by the name of Simon Gilbert dubbed his part. As atrocious as the singing was in that movie overall, nobody could have acted the part better than PO'T. Makes me cry every time. I believe Brian Stokes Mitchell to the best Don Quixote but Richard Kiley is great too.
Richard Kiley was my grandfather. I must say, this is not fair!!! I'm working with my family to get the entire performance put on youtube. He's obviously still remembered and everyone should have a chance to see his performance!!!
@dteed6282 I wish you the best of luck on this. I was never able to attend his performances but remember his version of the impossible dream and how much it touched my heart. I would very much like to see his entire performance of this play. ~Brian~
I saw Richard Kiley sing this and other songs from the show live in "Man of La Mancha" at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in Lincoln Center, NYC back in 1972 and remember it to this day.
If you're a fan of this wonderful actor/singer, (remember, that's how he always said he thought of himself) his double album of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Songbook has just been released on CD and iTunes, etc. Not a paid advertiser, just a fan. It came out about 5 days ago. A real treat! It's from 1960, 5 years before La Mancha.
The fact that they used a memorable item to sucker viewers in to see a fifth of the song just so the adds are seen is offensive. Thats what This complaint is about.
@KatayokoNoTenshi Katofwhateveryournameis. What the hell kind of dumb ass are you. Its not a commercial for the Ed sullivan show? Its a commercial for the adds connected to it by the poster. God youre dumb.
NO! I wanted to see the whole thing! I JUST found the song after searching for THIS person singing "The Impossible Dream" for YEARS! I foundit! And Ed had the GALL to say "Goodnight" in the middle of the song????!?!?!??!??!??!??!?!?
@stevenscottoddballz Well, obviously not you. :) I guess I am just as mesmerised as you are by such complete lack of consideration and sense of proportions as that editor's.
@stevenscottoddballz This abbreviated version just crushed me. This was the first musical I saw in NYC playing downtown in Washington Square. Kiley was amazing. So was the beautiful lady who played Aldonza
I wish they had the entire performance of Man of La Mancha. Because it looks like they do more than just one song. If anyone can somehow find the whole thing of this please let me know
I had the great privilage of seeing Richard in the play and he amazed me with his incredible version of this song.

Peter O'Toole's better.
Lobsterboyman 10 months ago
@Lobsterboyman You presumably are joking; great actor though he is; Peter O'Toole has a singing voice best left in his own bathroom.

@swvacollings290 Thanks so much for the information. I love Kiley's acting/singing, and have been trying to find this album for 30-plus years:) --

This amounts to a commercial and thats against policy on youtube. I'm reporting this and suggest others do the same.

@stematfisnyc a commercial for a 45 year old episode of a tv show? Also there are commercials everywhere on Youtube.
