  • I believe that this performance is much

    too fast.

  • Beautifullll!

  • Have you permission from the Dean of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin to use a picture of the interior of the Cathedral on here?!!

  • Bach makes me fall to my knees to praise God...

  • @PatroniFan To hell with your GAWD.

  • Alguna persona tiene las partes del magnificat de Bach que faltan con Koopman. Que por favor las suba. Muchas gracias

  • There is a German film about Bach that I would recommend from around 2002 titled, "Mein Name ist Bach". I saw it shown here in the States with English language subtitles.

  • As an atheist, I like to think that the mere idea of God is only justified by this kind of amazing pieces of art

  • How can he be a greater genius than Mozart? Nobody ever made a movie about Bach.

  • @anniers7 Because nobody challenged Bach's greatness. Salieri challenged Mozart, thats the only reason a movie exists..

  • @OfficialRJLextro But don't believe what you saw Amadeus. It's representations of Mozart and Salieri are cinematic fiction, not historic fact.

  • @1banders Their are historic accounts of rivalry between the two. Mozart didn't like Italians generally because they were seen as taking all the good jobs in COurts. So...... Yeah.

  • @OfficialRJLextro Yes, they sometimes found themselves competing for the same projects, and Salieri was sometimes chosen over Mozart, which Mozart (in his letters) attributed to an Italian conspiracy. But Mozart and Salieri also collaborated on some projects. And Salieri admired and performed Mozart's music publicly. In fact, there was no conspiracy. But "Amadeus" spun a tale of pure cinematic fiction out of Mozart's misapprehensions.

  • @1banders

Actually, "Amadeus" is a theatre work. It's a methaphore about envy. As it took such great and famous composers, and with its movie version, people took it as if it's the real Mozart and Salieri's biography. What can we do? Just try to inform, that's the best we can do about it!

  • @Sheilazag \Sorry for my English, I'm Brazilian and out of practice!

  • @Sheilazag Yes. It astonishes me that so many people seem to believe that the film "Amadeus" is an accurate representation of Mozart and Salieri.

  • @anniers7 Oh, yes they did. Gustav Leonhardt enacted the role of Bach. I saw a clip from the film on YouTube.

  • @anniers7 Well, actually, Mozart, in his compositions, usually went from the 1st to the 5th and back again BUT he did it with amazing skill.

  • @Eldonstromberg1 From the 1st to 5th I mean in the musical scale

  • Paz e Bem!!!

  • To be eclectically blessed is a blessing that should never be disguised ! I feel the heavens moving though my thoughts & it does not cost any frequent flyer points....☺

  • très belle version merci beaucoup

  • (niceonemicky) I bet ya ur grandpa was 1 big peadophile, so if u turn ur back from the catholic, just shut ur mouth and stop talking about the Pope because ur not perfect ok fagg, ur not God to judge..we're all sinners, only jesus was pure clean. I hope ur no what ur doing, because buhdhism is 1 of the false religion says in the bble...if they don't turn back and follow jesus, they will all rod in hell and u'll be 1 of them pple.

  • @tonganfoilole69 you give the Catholic church a bad name and it is people like you that are driving people away. Also if you are going to quote the bible then why not "Love thy neighbour" and believe that "Blessed are the sinners" and remember the those that are judgemental "Shall be judged by the father in Heaven" just enjoy the music mate

  • I would have designed mankind so that they could have sex by touching toe nails, and that they could have got rid of excrement by sneezing on plants so as to fertilize them.

This is tongue in cheek. The whole thing was writen 300 years after the event.

I am a roman catholic but I believe now in Buddhism, we have been sold a lie.

The Pope is a peadophile defender.

  • @niceonemicky I think the pope has taken the bible a little to specifically, Jesus does say let the small children come to me, but not in that way..

  • @prefix331 The "pope" doesn't invent things out of thin air. He has a college of cardinals and advisors, including biblical scholars. The bible is all fables for children anyway.

  • @301250 Yes, exactly. And you did not mentioned Mozart, Vivaldi, Salieri etc... Maybe God not exist, but the same idea of the existence of a God inspired the better musics of all time...

  • Sublime, grandioso! Magistrale esecuzione.

  • Max Reger sagte einmal Bach sei der Anfang und das Ende aller Musik. Jetzt wissen wir was er damit gemeint hat. Die h-Moll Messe ist ein epochales Meisterwerk: einmalig und unerreicht.

  • Let us contemplate the possibility that Bach is the greatest genius who has ever lived (second to Jesus, I'm not kidding) for he gives us a glimpse of the face of God.

  • @bawlmerbuoy1 To hell with your GAWD.

  • Magnific

  • @faithandproof HE IS THE SON OF GOD!!!!!

  • benetan hunkigarria JS Bach

regards from euskal herria/basque country, europe`s most ancient culture soon to become the continent`s youngest nation

  • @Alecs1950 yes, well said, and even for atheists. I don't believe in God (or, better, not in revelated religions) but i love Bach and generally sacred music. Art is a gift from a genius to the whole mankind, not only to a nation, people or religious confession.

  • @bachinblack94 ...agreed Monsieur. Christianity inspired some of the greatest painters, sculptors, architects and composers like Bach for example, who initialed his scores "D.G' ie. Deo Gloria or To God Alone Belongs the Glory. And Bach's Passion of both the St.John & Matthew are among some of the greatest sacred music ever composed. The fact that these works, composed as they were centuries ago, are constantly being played throughout the world today attest to their significance and glory.

  • I feel like Jesus is fucking my soul when I listen to this. Bach is just the greatest composer ever, arguably the greatest genius ever in general. His music elicits AWE.

  • Who is this recording of?

  • Comment removed

  • Once you separate your denomination from the Savior, it is then you will be free.

  • @Vihor189 oh yeah youre rigth but those masses and other works are dedicated to the catholic church = )

  • @manuelspcool

Do you mean the Roman Catholic church? In the case of Bach you´re wrong: His music his composed for the Lutheran mass of the 18th century.

  • @PfaelzerOrganist oh yeah but this one is for the Roman Catholic Church, He was Lutheran but some of his works were make for the catholic just a few

  • @manuelspcool

How do you know that especially this Gloria is composed for Roman Catholics?

  • @PfaelzerOrganist Coz I have a master in history of music and my tesis was about The Baroque, I know very well the work of Bach =)

  • @manuelspcool

Very good! But it sounded to me you deny that Lutheran mass liturgy includes the Gloria etc. :-)

  • @PfaelzerOrganist oh no Im not saying that, the lutherans and more the lutherans of those days have the liturgy very similar to the Roman, and there are great Lutheran masses too.

  • @manuelspcool

That´s right ... it´s shameful seeing todays trends in Lutheran Church especially in liturgy and music with all that Calvinistic crap ... but we´re working against it, bringing back the beauty of liturgy and the origin teachings which are also very close to the (traditional) Roman Catholics ... Lutherans shall be the catholics of the Augsburg Confession! Christmas greetings from Lutheran Highchurch from Germany!

  • @PfaelzerOrganist oh youre so Kind, thanks a lot, the Germans have such a wonderful religious tradition, like Bach with the lutherans a very marvelous religion and Beethoven as catholic ( my religion ) the lutherans from Lutero were so familiar to the ROman church, buth today is very diferent and if you try to bring the tradition again, Youre my Hero = )

  • @PfaelzerOrganist Blessings to you PfaelzerOrganist in your fight to keep the beauty and majesty of the Christian tradition alive in the Lutheran church. From a Catholic (converted from Protestantism), you should know that there are plenty of people fighting the same fight as you in the Catholic Church, with some wonderful recent victories, so we are true brethren.

Praying for unity in Truth and Love between us...

  • @manuelspcool Bach the Lutheran's sacred music, though not Roman Catholic, is totally "catholic" to the point where it is even sung at St. Peters in Rome.

  • @PfaelzerOrganist I think Bach composed this messa for true christians from all the times and places

  • @PfaelzerOrganist The Mass doesn't fit Lutheran or Catholic liturgies. It was assembled 1724-1749, mostly from earlier works. Many movements are parodies of Leipzig cantata movements. The Sanctus was performed 1725 in Leipzig. The Kyrie & Gloria were composed 1733, performed 1733 at the Catholic court in Dresden & dedicated to the Saxon Duke/Elector/Prince (soon ot be elected king) in Poland in hopes of being granted the royal protection of an official title in the royal capelle.

  • @PfaelzerOrganist In 1736 the king granted Bach's request. About a week later Bach appeared in Dresden to play "on the new organ in the church of Our Lady...in the presence of the Russian Ambassador... and many Persons of Rank, also a large attendance of other persons and artists, with particular admiration, wherefore also His Royal Majesty graciously named the same, because of his great ability in composing, to be His Majesty's Composer."

  • @Vihor189 Is lutheran god different than catholic god? Merry Christmas!

  • and on the 7th day God created Bach! truly epic!

  • @Vihor189 This great man was not perfect!

  • JS BACH gives grandeur to our Roman Catholic Faith. A beautifully adorned cathedral, a church full of people. Like in the old days.

  • ¡Sublime!

Gracias, Dios mío, por haber creado a Bach...

  • Великолепно!!

  • Sublime; Toda la música sacra construida por j. s. Bach.

    la demás es solamente EXCELENTE.

  • frumos, divin, angelic, minunat!

  • Oare e vreun muritor capabil sa comenteze perfectiunea?

A sta in genunchi , pios , e chiar prea putin!

Ce mare noroc sa intalnesc aceasta muzica Dumnezeeasca

That is all my comment. The silence is more good for hear this beautifull music!

  • Thank you! Excellent music!

  • genial, esto si que es musica. Gracias

  • Este bello himno bíblico es maravilloso.

Gracias a mi querido amigo Ginserino por compartir. Lida.

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • Nice music! Nice video! Perfect

  • I love music of the Baroque era. This piece has just blest my soul.

  • Really is this performance under the baton of Nikolaus Harnoncourt? I've never heard him to conduct Bach with Wiener Philharmoniker or any band playing "modern" instruments, except Royal Concertgebouw.

  • ya, I know, it's odd... but what's even more odd is that the orchestra here is tuned at A 415...

  • J.S.Bach is the best ever !!!!! That's amazing music!

  • ...Pero esta es con mucho la mejor lectura.

  • well, it could very well be due to some uploading flaws with youtube or something like that because some of the bach pieces that i've downloaded ("illegally") , were a step flat themselves. It bothers me almost 0 percent that the piece is a step flat. It is just as beautiful.

  • well yes. this is in the key of c# major, instead of D major.

  • seems to be A moll because of baroque tuning of instruments (A is not 440-442 Hz but about 438 or lower)

  • Excellent explanation, thank You.

  • @fedefournier Actually, 415 is the semitone lower which makes it sound in the different key. 438 is too high.

  • @fedefournier but it means a whole step down from h to A flat

  • @fedefournier It's D dur (nicht A moll) @ A415. Pitch is relative.

Not everyone today tunes to A440; many philharmonics tune higher.

Not everyone in the Baroque tuned to A415.

Had Bach performed this in Weimar around 1700-1717, it would have been in D major @ A465 (1/2 step > A440). In Leipzig around 1720-1750, it would have been in D major @ A415 (1/2 step < A440). Schuetz did his church music at A462. Baroque organs are tuned around A465+, and some Baroque winds, around A392.

  • @fedefournier acqtually baroque tuning is at about 410 Hz (meaning it sounds a semitone lower than the same note on A=440Hz)

  • @fedefournier

baroque tuning was different from 440. Usually we perform in 415, when A in 415 sounds as A flat n 440. But historically in 17-18 centures there were many different tunings, from 380 to 460

more or less....438 - is too little difference to hear h-moll as a moll.... it should be 382

  • great!

  • Me suena mejor tal como Bach lo escribio.

  • indeed this transposed interpretation is not in h-moll

  • but sounds one tone lower.

  • Messe A-moll???

  • A soul searching and uplifting performance. Actuacion musical de una belleza imposible the describir. Thank you, vielen dank, gracias mil, grazie.
