The U.S. Marine Corps fought the entire Japanese Imperial Army throughout the Pacific. While the U.S. Army was in Europe. Imagine if the United States dedicated all of its manpower to fight Japan, the war in the Pacific would've been over in weeks.
@NowKillYourself VERY true. And we weren't even ready and geared up for war, like Germany, Japan, Russia and even Britain. We are without a doubt the most unintentional empire in the history of the world.
@cavaleer Not true, the US Army fought many Pacific theater battles. Also, Russia was not "geared up" for war. In fact, Stalin had purged the vast majority of his military commanders. All easy info to find, just gotta look.
@0341MarineInfantry Good points but I didn't say the Marines were alone. That was someone else. Compared to us though, Stalin was much better prepared for war. Not like Hitler/Germany of course but much more war-industrialized. He had been in power for a while and seen WWI. He knew the possibilities.
FDR was a fukin LIAR. "Unprovoked". He did everything in his power to force the Japanese into war with us. He had to do his masters bidding.....But once we entered it, it changed us and the world forever.
@cavaleer Exactly, because not wanting to give your goods to someone else is reason for war right? Everybody thinks their entitled to whatever they want and when they have it taken away from them they feel wronged.. Its like your mother saying if you dont behave you will be going to bed without dinner. FDR sent Japan to bed without their dinner, and they responded with war...
@NowKillYourself Here's your lesson for the day half-brain......FDR froze Japanese assets in America, traded with China, a country Japan had attacked and begun conquering, and embargoed American oil from Japan. He FORCED them to attack us. Of course the American people knew NOTHING of this. We haven't been involved in a legitimate war since we invaded Mexico. All the others were foreign and/or used "false flag" operations or other clandestine provocations to engage us. Now we run the world.
@cavaleer the oil embargo was legit. it was an answer to the Japanese atrocities in Manchuria. Japan was not forced into attacking America. They were an agressor nation looking to build an Empire.
@stardaddyo9 I never said they weren't anything else. The point is since when is America such an ally of China/Manchuria in 1941??? We weren't. FDR had to obey his puppet-masters who HAD to have America in the war, otherwise who knows what would've happened. There's nothing wrong with building an empire. I have no trouble with what the Japanese were doing. If you can, why not? Esp. if you're a martial country to begin with. Our empire is different, I'd say the most unique in history.
"...since when is America such an ally of China/Manchuria in 1941???...puppet masters..."
What you're saying is very speculative. It wasn't just Manchuria; the Japanese were expanding all over the place, in European held territories as well. It was clear that they would simply take what they wanted from anyone. Challenging their conquests doesn't have to be interpreted in terms of hidden elite of Jews orchestrating FDR's foreign policy; there were legit reasons for an embargo.
@IndividualParties If that were a real policy issue just attack them outright. No need for behind the scenes, passive aggressive moves. Or at least prepare for a defensive war.
Trade embargoes and sanctions are used all the time, and they aren't necessarily behind the scenes; they're pretty public especially since they involve the prohibition of commerce, and are part of an attempt to pressure a country to alter their policies. It's often the only option if the citizenry isn't interested in fighting a war, as was the case in the early years of WWII and Jap expansionism.
@IndividualParties Obviously but since when was depression era America so worried about what Japan was doing in Asia? And since when did we freeze a county's assets? Have we done that with any country other than the USSR, Cuba and N. Korea? Did we even do that with Iran? And when was FDR's public diplomatic announcements and warnings? Correct me if I'm wrong...
It's not clear what your point is. Why wouldn't the United State be concerned about Japan's expansion? And yes, Iranian assets have been frozen in the past; but not due to the current problems involving their nuclear ambitions. As of now, sanctions against Iran seem to be the weapon of choice.
Or the whole concept of a beaten, battered and nearly defeated US fleet attacking the Japanese at numerical odds of 2 to 1 against never occurred to the Japanese.
The Japanese always assumed that the Americans didn't have the spirit of Bushido. . .. the suicidal attack of the US torpedo bombers at Midway convinced many Japanese that defeat was inevitable. The Japanese thought that thier material and strategic weakness could be overcome by courage and morale. After Midway - they knew different.
@TheHempman09 You too seem to think nobody ever heard of Pearl Harbor or Coral Sea. Background is fine but it takes up at least 1/3 of the documentary.
@kozmon0t I know, your right it does go on. I'm very protective of my BBC lol. Maybe because it's made for a British audience, it has to go into a bit more depth. The British were just not there at all in the Pacific, we lost our war there, so as you can imagine it's not in a lot of our history books. So the background was maybe for the students and younger guys that maybe might not have heard of the coral sea. I think everyone's heard of Pearl Harbour though.
United states' steel production of 90 million tonnes in 1943, Japan only made 7.8million, which in itself was over two million short of what the government had planned.
Air raids over LA would have killed hundreds of thousands. Not saying that the Japs would have won the War. But you would have a lot of dead civilians on your hands.
@semperFi4ever100 It wasn't supposed to be a sneak attack. The Japanese envoys had trouble deciphering the last part of the ultimatum and war declaration. By the time they got them deciphered the war had already started. They were supposed to deliver the ultimatum 1 hr before the attack was to start, then if the US didn't agree then the war declaration just before the attack time to leave no chance of warning, but still being a legal declared war.
Theoretically, if the Japanese wanted to cripple the U.S's operating power, then they should have bombed the Panama Canal and the separated the U.S. pacific fleet so that they couldn't send carriers to the Pacific from Norfolk.
If the U.S. Navy was obliterated, and Japan taken control of Pearl Harbor, then Japan could have launched bombing campaigns on southern california. They could have used it for a sub base and sent night strikes to san diego.
All this, though, would have depended on how many experienced pilots they still had.
"So it seemed that they were not aware of anything, and then, I knew it was going to be a sneak attack."
And this was significant because the Japanese believed that sneak attacks were immoral, so even though the attack was a success for them, they were somewhat disappointed it was a sneak attack.
one thing I want to teach Hirohito, You can attack any nation in the world and win, but you still can't conquer it, you don't have enough human resource to do so, and never will
Nimtz still had his three carriers, The Yorktown,Enterprise, and Hornett, still intact. They had the Lexington, but it was lost at the battle of the Coral Sea. American morale improved with Dolittle's raid on Japan. Now Nimtz needed solid information on where Yatamoto's imperial navy will strike next, which was Midway.
yeah and jfk's assassination was a conpiracy and so was 911... it would b great if we were actually that smart but people just need to learn to take things at face value... all three incidents happened because we had our guard down.
Besides, it was said in the After Action Reports that it would have been most devastating if they took out the dry docks and construction facilities instead of the Battleships. This would have set up back another year.
No carriers were present at the time of the attack...
Am I the only one who finds this suspicious?! After all that fleet was there to neutralize possible japanese attacks. If so why not put there your best weapon?
the reason they didnt have any carriers there at the time, was because they were busy carrying air crews to islands further away, i believe the carrier Enterprise was ferrying men and machines to Midway while the attack on pearl harbour was happening, and the aircraft carrier Lexington was also doing the same thing. thats why they didnt have any carriers in Pearl Harbor :P
accually this reminds me of something an Austrian said to us in the pub few times when someone said why did high command at pearl harbour dismissed the radar inexperience operators when they reported aircraft aproaching? n he said that was an inside job zionist leaders and british officials agreed that If the zionist would get the USA in the war the British will hand over palesrine in return n that the agreement was signed n sealed B4 pearl harbour sounds far fetched to me But who knows
Here is the problem with that theory. Even by 1942 despite the success the carrier had, the battleship was still considered the primer capital ship. It wasn't until 1942 the aircraft carrier was considered a true capital ship.
On 28 November the Enterprise under was sent to deliver Marine Corps fighter planes to Wake Island. On 4 December Enterprise delivered the aircraft and on December 7 the task force was on its way back to Pearl Harbor. On 5 December, The Lexington with a task force was delivering 25 scout bombers to Midway Island. The last Pacific carrier, USS Saratoga, had left Pearl Harbor for upkeep and repairs on the West Coast.
The report failed to note that the Doolittle Raid prompted the Japanese carrier group to maneuvers near Midway to prevent another raid from happening.
Japan was much stronger then in the air and on water. If they finished with american fleet in that days all pacific would be theirs and their would be nothing to stop them to attack town's on west coast and their plains were much superior 2 USA.I am not saying they would win a war ,ther is no way that anyone could invade hall america.Just as germans with all mayor armies on east could not invade russia.Just 2 big.
maybe their zeros were he best at the time am Sure their navy was Not, also american war planes overtook the japanese planes within couple of years, the usa was too big with too much tecnology for japan to take on then or now n they are for sure Not cowards
They attacked and didn't find the US carriers there. Had they stayed, the US carriers and submarines might easily have clipped a few of their carriers.
Finally, it wouldn't have made any difference. The US built four times as many ships in 1943 as they lost in Hawaii. Further, they only used 10% of their military to defeat Japan. Had Japan taken Hawaii, the US would merely have left Europe for a year or so and put 100% towards Japan. Japan could never win.
Again , am not say they would win but they could attack cities on west coast.America built many ships during war but in 1942 Japan had much stronger fleet, that is a fact but failed to use them wisely.
You plan on taking out its moral, industrial capacity, ship yards, etc. with a few hits from a few hundred aircraft? All this while risking your carriers to submarine and land-based air attacks?
The US had 132 million people. London took months of heavy firebombing and the UK certainly didn't quit and production increased. What good would killing a few thousand folks in LA and putting a ship yard out for a few weeks do?
@1nicevids By the time Americans landed in North Africa (Aug 1942), the British had won the Battle of Britian and were pushing the Germans out of Africa, while the German invasion of Russia had already ground to a halt outside of Moscow (over a year) and Stalingrad. Other than possibly the US bombing of Germany... they didn't do much to Germany in 1942 or 1943. Italy only tied down a few hundred thousand Germans.
Finishing Japan off first would have had a similiar result to the war.
@nprolog1 They would have crushed Japan alone. They only used 10% of their miltary from 1941-1944 and still won. Other than the British in India/Burma, the rest of the allies couldn't do much because most of their troops and materials were in Europe. The US accounted for 90% of the troops and materials in the Pacific until 1944... again using only 10% of their output. I'm Canadian, but it was perfectly clear who carried the Pacific war after 1941 in terms of both materials and numbers of men.
@BW022 .. can i ask a simple question? .. where did u get the 10% figure, what statistical records stated such figures, who was the historian, if u read it from a history book, and when was the book published?
@teddythebenny It came from the World at War documentary series (episode 23, Pacific February 1942-July 1945). After Pearl Harbor, Churchill and Roosevelt met and decided the US would concentrate on Germany. No idea where they got the exact number, but I don't doubt it. Sites speak of "majority" going to Europe (worldwar2-wwii com/9-world-war-two-wwii-southern-pacific.htm), numbers of US troops in North Africa, Italy, and England vs Pacific and the bombing and Atlantic losses - not surprising.
@BW022 Well Japan might not have won the War. But if the US carriers were at Pearl and if they were destroyed.... you are talking about the loss of airpower for thousands of miles in every direction. There would have been nothing, standing in the Way of Japanese bombing raids over California. Hell, the Japanese went as far as Alaska. So you are correct in saying the Japanese probably wouldn't have won the War, but you are DEAD WRONG when you say it "wouldn't have made any difference."
@VanOstrum Well State Shinto stated that Hirohito had a divine right to rule the world. We know beyond any doubt that the Japanese would have laid waste to Australia.
its not that simple. Part of the Japanese strategy was seize rubber supplies (I believe they involved conquering Indonesia and Malaysia). They actually succeeded doing this, so the US lost 90 percent of its source of Rubber while Japan had plenty.America's advantage of mass production would not have matter much if the Us ran out of rubber, which it almost did. Fortunately the US discovered how to manufacture synthetic rubber. This problem also could have resulted in defeat in Europe.
@BW022 Good point; the US didn't put in even close to a full effort against the Japanese.
Additionally, for some reason the Japanese army seemed to be completely tied down in China. This situation didn't change even well into 1945. The Japanese army was still in Manchuria when the Soviets finally swept them away. So any large-scaled invasion of the US was out of the question.
@BW022 How much did Japan put in though is hard to say. Think of the millions of soldiers that were still in China. If Japan had these soldiers, perhaps they would have been better suited to stop the U.S. But you are right the Japanese were hopelessly outproduced by America so maybe it would have made no difference, perhaps.
Theres one thing that alot of people never understood why the Japanese decided to conduct a Sneak Attack on the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor rather than a Ship to Ship Battle, its called a Preemptive Attack, a Term that was never heard of or used before and during WWII.

It's the other way! All of you who give me thubs down are fucking loosers - you would rather have singing the anthem while at the same tiem being slamed by japan bombs. Ordinary people would immediately go for cover, deepshit americans rather have their song sang...
It shows, you failed to Pay Attention as to what Time the Attack Started? 7:55 AM Sunday Morning, most people are still asleep at that time on the weekends.
As for Ordinary People, are you an Expert on Human Behavior?
Because ordinary people would not instinctively take cover right away when there is an explosion, they would just stand there in confusion.
that being said, next time do some research before diplaying your ignorance.
shut the fuck up with your stupid ass comments. okay ? When you need fucking help when your country gets bombed by these Islamic fundamentalist, dont come fucking asking us for help, retard.
Sorry Eljamiro......America knew the japanese were going to attack .......but they didnt know where.........How can you say in one post.....Study Your History......and in the next.......You cant believe everything you read in History books.....If you dont know what youre posting.......just say so........lol
america was very lucky that their incompetence proved to be a blessing in disguise. if the japs had destroyed the carriers the war would have gone upto 1948 unless they tried the a-bomb anyways.
it destroyed america's crap obsolete ships which japan would have destroyed in any case and allowed new better ships to work they're way into the war.
tactical japanese victory. propaganda victory for america. awful strategic blunder by the japanese.
Australia warned america three days before the attack on pearl harbour that an armada of japanease warships was in the pacific heading for pearl harbour, why was no action taken, also americas spies were listening in on japanease communications months before the attack,.
eljamiro that is false the U.S knew a attack was near but they didn't know were or when. also they thought it would be a few spy's trying to get into the airfield and such not a NAVAL Force.
the Japs kept there Pearl Harbor attack a secret nobody knew it was pearl harbor. please read more on history before commentig

I beg to differ, you have your truth,i have mine, they knew the japs were on their way,the Americans goaded the japs into war, they had no choice and the Americans knew it.First there is the history book truth, then there is the real truth, the people who passed on the info have a different truth than the history books.
There are always more than one truth when it comes to history, peoples accounts are different,i also had a relative who was involved in intelligence during the war,he actually seen the message sent to the Americans, they ignored it and paid the penalty.Surely your not so naive as to believe everything in history books. Its common knowledge in the circles my relative moved in that the Americans knew what was going to happen, you got to study the history behind the history if you get what i mean.
Japan should have used the element of surprise in a smarter way. First of all, they should have bombed pearl harbor even more than what they did. they should have packed it with bombs to tightly that not anything would be left behind in a whole piece. They should have attacked Midway at the same time to use their element of surprise, they just might have gotten it.
Even If the Carrier had been destroyed in the Pale Harbour, but Japan couldn't beat up US due to the industrial production power ... Admiral Yamamoto knew this, but couldn't stop the Japan forging warfare against US... na, ja. Their mentality seem to irrational, but can be rational.
Would depend, dont forget Japan had more carriers on the way during 1942 and 1943. For the US to catch up would take them years, unless Japan were to screw up royally (somehow who knows they lost midway anyways for crying out loud) the US would of matched them in number of carriers by late 1944... And by then if the Japanese didnt screw up at all they might of taken Hawaii. But if i were Yammamoto and all the US carriers were destroyed at pearl i would of sent the carriers to attack the canal.
the japanese were terrible in WWll. not when it comes to fighting (they fought very brave, strong, and powerful) but cruel in ways of mean i guess u could say. more than the nazis O_O
The Aleutian Islands were hit 18 hours earlier. Why was the Pacific fleet alerted? Why was the old coal stokers left in harbor for simple bombing like sitting ducks?
You're right that there were midget submarines involved in the Pearl Harbor strategy. I can only guess that they weren't mentioned because they played no part in the actual attack. One was sunk by a destroyer, at least one ran aground. I think only one got into Pearl Harbor but it may have been sunk before it could do any damage,
Actually Yamamoto ruled out invading the US early on. Japan had no strategic interest in occupying the US and in any case it would have been too difficult because as Yamamoto said there would be 'a gun behind every blade of grass'. What Japan wanted was for the US to recognise it's assumed sovereignty over Asia and the Pacific.
In the global, hegemonic sense, it's not unreasonable that with the US submitted and Japan diverted elswhere that 65 years later nobody's level of freedom would quite be the same.
heres an interesting fact, all the great US admirals where born in the American mid west, thousands of miles from the nearest ocean !

No carriers were present at the time of the attack...
Am I the only one who finds this suspicious?! After all that fleet was there to neutralize possible japanese attacks. If so why not put there your best weapon?
WalterWolf000 2 years ago
the reason they didnt have any carriers there at the time, was because they were busy carrying air crews to islands further away, i believe the carrier Enterprise was ferrying men and machines to Midway while the attack on pearl harbour was happening, and the aircraft carrier Lexington was also doing the same thing. thats why they didnt have any carriers in Pearl Harbor :P
Bronzetheenchidna 2 years ago 14
accually this reminds me of something an Austrian said to us in the pub few times when someone said why did high command at pearl harbour dismissed the radar inexperience operators when they reported aircraft aproaching? n he said that was an inside job zionist leaders and british officials agreed that If the zionist would get the USA in the war the British will hand over palesrine in return n that the agreement was signed n sealed B4 pearl harbour sounds far fetched to me But who knows
polygamous1 2 years ago
Here is the problem with that theory. Even by 1942 despite the success the carrier had, the battleship was still considered the primer capital ship. It wasn't until 1942 the aircraft carrier was considered a true capital ship.
thatkidinthegreenhat 1 year ago 3
I looked it uo:
On 28 November the Enterprise under was sent to deliver Marine Corps fighter planes to Wake Island. On 4 December Enterprise delivered the aircraft and on December 7 the task force was on its way back to Pearl Harbor. On 5 December, The Lexington with a task force was delivering 25 scout bombers to Midway Island. The last Pacific carrier, USS Saratoga, had left Pearl Harbor for upkeep and repairs on the West Coast.
rawdawg15 1 year ago
The report failed to note that the Doolittle Raid prompted the Japanese carrier group to maneuvers near Midway to prevent another raid from happening.

Japan made a stupid sht, insted of finish the US on hawai when it was easy they were satisfy and return.Just gave US a time to heal and strike back.
dzonikg 2 years ago
So what you are saying, one attack, no matter how powerful. Does not make a Strategy?
sturnfield7783 2 years ago
Japan was much stronger then in the air and on water. If they finished with american fleet in that days all pacific would be theirs and their would be nothing to stop them to attack town's on west coast and their plains were much superior 2 USA.I am not saying they would win a war ,ther is no way that anyone could invade hall america.Just as germans with all mayor armies on east could not invade russia.Just 2 big.

maybe their zeros were he best at the time am Sure their navy was Not, also american war planes overtook the japanese planes within couple of years, the usa was too big with too much tecnology for japan to take on then or now n they are for sure Not cowards
polygamous1 2 years ago 2
Crazy and stupid, having tons of Jet fuel on your rear. I agree that is Not Cowardly, but crazy.
sturnfield7783 1 year ago
They attacked and didn't find the US carriers there. Had they stayed, the US carriers and submarines might easily have clipped a few of their carriers.
Finally, it wouldn't have made any difference. The US built four times as many ships in 1943 as they lost in Hawaii. Further, they only used 10% of their military to defeat Japan. Had Japan taken Hawaii, the US would merely have left Europe for a year or so and put 100% towards Japan. Japan could never win.
BW022 2 years ago 23
@BW022
Again , am not say they would win but they could attack cities on west coast.America built many ships during war but in 1942 Japan had much stronger fleet, that is a fact but failed to use them wisely.
dzonikg 2 years ago
Attack US cities? What good would that do?
You plan on taking out its moral, industrial capacity, ship yards, etc. with a few hits from a few hundred aircraft? All this while risking your carriers to submarine and land-based air attacks?
The US had 132 million people. London took months of heavy firebombing and the UK certainly didn't quit and production increased. What good would killing a few thousand folks in LA and putting a ship yard out for a few weeks do?
BW022 2 years ago 4
@BW022
Maybe you are right but then i don't know why Japan attacked USA.i guess that was stupid.
dzonikg 2 years ago
@BW022 wouldn't that leave the russians and the british facing the german regime themselves? then that would become a problem too.
1nicevids 1 year ago
@1nicevids By the time Americans landed in North Africa (Aug 1942), the British had won the Battle of Britian and were pushing the Germans out of Africa, while the German invasion of Russia had already ground to a halt outside of Moscow (over a year) and Stalingrad. Other than possibly the US bombing of Germany... they didn't do much to Germany in 1942 or 1943. Italy only tied down a few hundred thousand Germans.
Finishing Japan off first would have had a similiar result to the war.
BW022 1 year ago
@BW022
You speak like if the U.S fought alone against Japan,
That's absolutely not true: England and and it's colonial empire and maybe Canada joined the U.S,
But I have to admit the U.S is verry good in building weapons in big quantities.
So please don't rewrite history, I don't think the U.S could have face Japan alone.
nprolog1 1 year ago
@nprolog1 They would have crushed Japan alone. They only used 10% of their miltary from 1941-1944 and still won. Other than the British in India/Burma, the rest of the allies couldn't do much because most of their troops and materials were in Europe. The US accounted for 90% of the troops and materials in the Pacific until 1944... again using only 10% of their output. I'm Canadian, but it was perfectly clear who carried the Pacific war after 1941 in terms of both materials and numbers of men.
BW022 1 year ago
@BW022 .. can i ask a simple question? .. where did u get the 10% figure, what statistical records stated such figures, who was the historian, if u read it from a history book, and when was the book published?
teddythebenny 1 year ago
@teddythebenny It came from the World at War documentary series (episode 23, Pacific February 1942-July 1945). After Pearl Harbor, Churchill and Roosevelt met and decided the US would concentrate on Germany. No idea where they got the exact number, but I don't doubt it. Sites speak of "majority" going to Europe (worldwar2-wwii com/9-world-war-two-wwii-southern-pacific.htm), numbers of US troops in North Africa, Italy, and England vs Pacific and the bombing and Atlantic losses - not surprising.
BW022 1 year ago
@BW022 Well Japan might not have won the War. But if the US carriers were at Pearl and if they were destroyed.... you are talking about the loss of airpower for thousands of miles in every direction. There would have been nothing, standing in the Way of Japanese bombing raids over California. Hell, the Japanese went as far as Alaska. So you are correct in saying the Japanese probably wouldn't have won the War, but you are DEAD WRONG when you say it "wouldn't have made any difference."
StonewallJackson26 10 months ago
@StonewallJackson26 Yeah I remember hearing that the Japanese had no intention of invading the US, they just wanted us out of their area.
VanOstrum 9 months ago
@VanOstrum Well State Shinto stated that Hirohito had a divine right to rule the world. We know beyond any doubt that the Japanese would have laid waste to Australia.

debzeppeliniv 8 months ago
@debzeppeliniv What would have stopped japanese zeros from hitting the mainland.... you tell me,
StonewallJackson26 8 months ago
@BW022
its not that simple.
TangomanX2008 8 months ago
@BW022 Good point; the US didn't put in even close to a full effort against the Japanese.
Additionally, for some reason the Japanese army seemed to be completely tied down in China. This situation didn't change even well into 1945. The Japanese army was still in Manchuria when the Soviets finally swept them away. So any large-scaled invasion of the US was out of the question.
PrUnEJuIcEtHeThIrD 6 months ago
@BW022 How much did Japan put in though is hard to say. Think of the millions of soldiers that were still in China. If Japan had these soldiers, perhaps they would have been better suited to stop the U.S. But you are right the Japanese were hopelessly outproduced by America so maybe it would have made no difference, perhaps.
Frankcastle522 5 months ago
Theres one thing that alot of people never understood why the Japanese decided to conduct a Sneak Attack on the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor rather than a Ship to Ship Battle, its called a Preemptive Attack, a Term that was never heard of or used before and during WWII.

It's the other way! All of you who give me thubs down are fucking loosers - you would rather have singing the anthem while at the same tiem being slamed by japan bombs. Ordinary people would immediately go for cover, deepshit americans rather have their song sang...
Artas1984 2 years ago
It shows, you failed to Pay Attention as to what Time the Attack Started? 7:55 AM Sunday Morning, most people are still asleep at that time on the weekends.
As for Ordinary People, are you an Expert on Human Behavior?
Because ordinary people would not instinctively take cover right away when there is an explosion, they would just stand there in confusion.
that being said, next time do some research before diplaying your ignorance.

america was very lucky that their incompetence proved to be a blessing in disguise. if the japs had destroyed the carriers the war would have gone upto 1948 unless they tried the a-bomb anyways.
it destroyed america's crap obsolete ships which japan would have destroyed in any case and allowed new better ships to work they're way into the war.
tactical japanese victory. propaganda victory for america. awful strategic blunder by the japanese.

I beg to differ, you have your truth,i have mine, they knew the japs were on their way,the Americans goaded the japs into war, they had no choice and the Americans knew it.First there is the history book truth, then there is the real truth, the people who passed on the info have a different truth than the history books.
eljamiro 2 years ago
the truth is real truth my grandfather was Navy intel, hell his PBY crew sunk a U-boat in October of 1941, BEFORE the U.S was at war.
but the info the U.S had was not concrete hell most thought they were meaning the British in Singapore well they were kind of right about that.
Dogmeat1950 2 years ago
There are always more than one truth when it comes to history, peoples accounts are different,i also had a relative who was involved in intelligence during the war,he actually seen the message sent to the Americans, they ignored it and paid the penalty.Surely your not so naive as to believe everything in history books. Its common knowledge in the circles my relative moved in that the Americans knew what was going to happen, you got to study the history behind the history if you get what i mean.
eljamiro 2 years ago
they didnt' really know, they just knew it was coming. but they didn't want to declare war the USA wanted to stay out.
Dogmeat1950 2 years ago 2
Japan should have used the element of surprise in a smarter way. First of all, they should have bombed pearl harbor even more than what they did. they should have packed it with bombs to tightly that not anything would be left behind in a whole piece. They should have attacked Midway at the same time to use their element of surprise, they just might have gotten it.

the problem was the us carriers. the japanese did not want to risk the fleet in a counter stike if they stayed too long.

But if i were Yammamoto and all the US carriers were destroyed at pearl i would of sent the carriers to attack the canal.

elli782 3 years ago
You're right that there were midget submarines involved in the Pearl Harbor strategy. I can only guess that they weren't mentioned because they played no part in the actual attack. One was sunk by a destroyer, at least one ran aground. I think only one got into Pearl Harbor but it may have been sunk before it could do any damage,
Steve17010 3 years ago
so?

Japan had no intention of ruling the USA.
BobtheBuilder25 3 years ago
Just like they had no intention of ruling China or Korea or the Philippines?
Raieldon 3 years ago
Actually Yamamoto ruled out invading the US early on. Japan had no strategic interest in occupying the US and in any case it would have been too difficult because as Yamamoto said there would be 'a gun behind every blade of grass'. What Japan wanted was for the US to recognise it's assumed sovereignty over Asia and the Pacific.
baybarsedturner 3 years ago
In the global, hegemonic sense, it's not unreasonable that with the US submitted and Japan diverted elswhere that 65 years later nobody's level of freedom would quite be the same.
