I got to and beat the elite 4 within 3-4 days, using almost a complete domination of my starter pokemon. I had oter pokemon of course for HMs and etc, and they did fight on occasion against trainers and stuff, but as far as story progression, gym battles and the Elite four, I beat it almost entirely with the effort of my starter, cyndaquil/quilava/typhlosion. working on Kanto now :D

BTW, I think Tododile is beast, but fire starters tend to be better in the long run. Grass is always easiest to train.

Well, Treeko and Turtwig were good, and Bulbasaur was the best back in Red, so your point is moot. Only FrLg Bulba and Chicorita are worst. (but that's because Hoenn and Sinnoh didn't have "worst", it had ties for worst.)

@TheShinyFeraligatr bulbasaur and chikorita are terrible because they dont learn ANY decent attacks. even as of the 4th generation. even from breeding and move tutoring. cyndaqil also falls subject to this. it has a great atack stat but learns, maybe, 2 physical attacks.

@Magnetrode Bulbasaur is fine. Leech Seed + Sleep Powder + a selection of other moves (synthesis, toxic, sludge bomb, substitute etc) is great.

@Kowbrainz tournament=wise its not very good. even IF that was a good moveset, venusaur doesnt have the defenses to back it up. a fire blast or brave bird and it goes gown. and substitute is the worst move ever conjured. its not strategic ITS F*CKING ANNOYING! i bet the japanese bastard that came up with that move was the same guy who decided that protect and double team should be objective TMs so that random trainers could use them.....

@Magnetrode why you would keep Venusaur in against a pokemon with access to fire blast or brave bird in the first place is beyond me.

Just because substitute is annoying for you doesn't make it any less strategic as a move, either. The move has a risk associated with it and requires knowledge of the standard pokemon movesets and good prediction from both players.

@Kowbrainz you obviously dont do too many pokemon tournaments or even that much multiplayer. you have to train your pokemon to be ready for anything. you dont KNOW whether your opponent has a pokemon with fire blast or brave bird. and switching out is EXTREMELY risky and a single switch may cost you the entire battle in the long run. and the deal with sustitue is, it CAN be strategic but it will, most of the time, be a waste of a move slot and could easily be replaced with something better.

@Magnetrode alright fine I will argue also about your points that you put out I will agree double team is an annoying move but strategy is easily used with substitute like using a sub heatran where you sub when you know he is going to switch then you can throw up a toxic on something used to take out your heatran or you can get a free attack in also there is sub + focus punch that a lot of pokemon use and you can predict what the guy will be doing easily you just need to be good at it

Don't use a camera. When recording games it's a lot better to either get a direct feed from your TV with a capture device like dazzle, or a screen recorder from your PC like camstudio or Fraps.

Oh My God i loved this game!!! playing against the old gym leaders, new and old areas to explore(interconnected with the other region) was amazing. loved the introduction of boy/girl sprites and tons of good pokemon

i liked this generation the best as well. The fun of exploring the new area combined with the nostalgia of fighting the original gym leaders is unbeatable. I remember when I used to play my Gold, I would always level grind my starter to like 12-15 before I faced my rival on the way back so that way I could kick his ass without breaking a sweat. Ah, good times!

I always like to use the grass type starter, it makes things harder in the beginning. And yeah, this is the best generation, it doesn't stray far from Red and Blue, but it adds alot of new stuff

dunno if you've covered it in later parts or not. but a point you can talk about is the internal battery, used to keep saves, in the second generation of pokemon games (GSC) were for some reason lower quality than others and didn't hold up very long, leading to it being impossible to save the game after about 4 or 5 years once the battery died

There are ways to fix them, but the battery is there, just like one in a watch, and some day it'll die and your save will be corrupted I'm afraid. Best to upload your team to Pokemon Stadium 2 before that.

I can tell you're using VisualBoyAdvance 1.7.2 because of the poor sound quality (lack of bass, and that muffling noise is way too loud)... LOL.

Don't have a Gameboy player, have Pokemon Stadium 2 and two Transfer Paks but unfortunately the battery in both my Gold and Silver games has died on me. This method allows me to get some stuff myself though, if anyone wants to see me catch a Celebi or Mew or something. :)
