Just look at York's oridances this breaks 3 laws that I can think of. Disorderly conduct. Prohibited acts. Not to mention a noise oridance. Monday though Saturday you can't make loud noises from 9:00 pm to 7:00 am. On Sunday's it noon until you're allows to make noise.
Typical NIMBY assclowns who complain at the drop of a hat just for the sake of complaining. These "people" are the reason so much is wrong in this country. The factory and/or tradition (A ONE NIGHT TRADITION) has been there longer than any of you NIMBY assholes have ever lived in York, PA. So, either STFU and deal with it like a good resident, or get the fuck up and move your complaining ass somewhere else. BTW, the cops could care less about noise ordinances ,they get paid regardless.
Actually, the cops do care what I think, as I pay part of their salary. And when NYW starts this crap, the cops will be getting a call. As they have for the last several years.
The steam whistle "concert" is a Costco pallet load of suck. True, it happens once a year, but so does a rectal exam, and that doesn't make it any better.
Why did they change the time for this annoying concert? I remember when I moved into York in 2003 asking the mail man what this annoying noise was. He told me it was a christmas concert. To me it sounds like a computer trying to connect to the internet when using dial up. Just what was this song suppose to be? I could not tell any christmas song. This so called concert breaks so many city ordiances it's not funny. Noise oridances and disorderly conduct are among the violations.
@altlandf The song was White Christmas, You do not need to be such a scrooge. It only happens once a year, traditions are what make the Holidays special. So just pull the broom-stick out of your rear and deal with.
people always have to bi**h about something. it's once a year, kids are on vacation, ur baby will go back to sleep, quit complaining! if us yorkers, who love tradition and heritage have anything to do with it, the tradition will continue for decades to come. so suck it up and deal with it. yes christmas songs in hell probably sound like that, but ur only complaining because you have a problem with christmas.
just because you don't like something doesn't mean it should go away. i hate all the christmas music that is omnipresent every December but I deal with it because alot of other people like it. The steam whistle concert is the only christmas music I like, if I have to put up with shit I hate that you might like, then you can deal with a half hour of "eerie" music once a year. don't be so selfish, hater.
If you were putting up with something that I LIKE then I would selflessly take it down or move it or turn it down to where you don't hear it. Don't presume that I am selfish when I am actually the most selfless person. It's these people who support it that are selfish. They don't care at all that it's annoying half the town while the other half happens to enjoy creepy xmas music. If this were put up to a vote I guarantee I know who would win, and then if they kept it going, who would be selfish?
not to mention the fact it almost woke the baby and probably babies all over town. Maybe it would be bearable if it wasn't at midnight when everyone is trying to freakin sleep. God you internet people don't consider anybody or any side of the argument. I understand it's about perception. Do you?
I live in York, so i'm not just some "internet person" Not everyone sleeps at midnight, there you are thinking your sleep schedule should dictate everyone else's. What about those of us that work 2nd and 3rd shifts that "keep america rolling" When we are trying to sleep during the day no one cares about how loud they are being then EVERYDAY but you want me to feel bad for you because it's a little noisy once a year for under an hour? Stop being so self absorbed in thinking everything
revolves around you and your first shift schedule. People like you don't even consider the fact that other people's lives go on while you sleep. Also, I really don't care about your baby so don't use your child as an excuse to silence something that means a lot to many people. Your child is YOUR responsibility, not mine. Besides, babies sleep at all hours of the day and wake up in the middle of the night anyway.
This is done on a variable pitch whistle known as a "Mockingbird". Such whistles have a sliding piston within the bell that shortens the chamber, just like a child's slide whistle, only these whistles are of industrial strength. They were made by Lunkenheimer and Crane.

Cool!! As an avid steam whistle enthusiast , I've known about this whistle for nearly 25 years, although I've never heard it in person.

If they would put a PRR passenger whistle on there I might make the 20 minute drive there to hear it.
