  • FYI, EADGC is tenor bass tuning :)

  • Good Job

    Nice tone and well fingered

  • @PDSJohn thats what she said ;)

Very nice cover, im going to play this at school for my GCSE performance now :)

  • excellent, thank you.

  • Nice job, nice indeed -- well done. I think our friend JB would approve enthused. Thanks SS5.

  • Dude , I watched this several times. great Job!

  • nice one.

  • nice job. damn 5 string? can repo on 4? yeah baby, again nice job and thanks from begining bass.

  • Nice long fingers. . .

  • Outstanding Job! That Zon has a great sound! What amp are you blowing threw? You sound hear it when I played it on my Warwick Corvette Standard fretless.

  • I don't usually post comments but I felt compelled to do so with this video. You aced this.. Great Job!

  • great job man

  • i am trying to learn this song on bass so this is really helping me thx 5 stars

  • good job men

  • Nice to see young guys appreciating Jack Bruce.

  • Awesome bass playing !

    Stu

  • You seem to have a string too many. Can anything be done about that?

  • This was the first song I learned on the bass, has to be favorite bass line i've heard. You totally nailed it! Question though: i thought five strings were tune BEADG?

  • thank you! EADGC in this :) C is not used

  • He is bending strings and not hitting the same frets as you, that is why the pitch may be different. Nice tight copy though-

    I like it.

  • Best bass cover of this song on YT. High attention to detail. You hit every note. Good job!

  • For some reason, Dr. Winkle was removed, who made the remark that the Sex Pistols, whom I agree were a great group, did not have a great bass player. I beg to differ. Glen Mattley learned his chops from McCartney, and Steve adapted to Glen's playing when it came time for Bollocks. Sid never played a lick on Bollocks; if he had, a session musician would have been brought in.

  • great

  • Sounds awesome man.

  • Question about the five-stringed nature of your bass: how is it tuned? I'm guessing it's E-A-D-G-something, which is not typical of a five string if I'm not mistaken. Basically tuned like a four string with a higher one on top?

  • bingo :) whole bass tuned in 4ths

    EADGC

  • Out of curiosity, is there a reason why? I thought the rationale for a 5 string was to have a low B, expanding the range. A higher string seems less practical to me, though I'm not a bassist myself so pardon my ignorance. Maybe just personal preference?

  • I really like the high-end range it gives me. I love playing chords and treating this particular bass almost like a solo instrument at times, specifically in jazz. For a working bass player, the B is more useful but I enjoy the timbre of a high C on this guy. Take care.

  • It sounds dry to me. Like it needs some juice.

  • Outstanding!!!

  • Don´t rush, take it easy. The tones are just the beginning...

  • Great post and tribute to one of the finest bass guitarist ever .... funny, how great groups have great bassists ... Beatles, Who, Cream etc.

  • just got a bass after years of trying to learn lead without enough time or dedication...and its like a whole new world has opened up to me...maybee its my age, im old enough for a bass now...lol...but ya dont realise just how many absolute ROCK classics have a killer bass intro....an flea is fukkin awesome..!

  • just watched Last Waltz again ... Rick Danko on bass, wow!

But where's the RUSH on your channel?

  • shmart!

  • Perfect dude! To be honest I saw the 5 string Zon and thought oh no...haha you know how it is a lotta dudes that play modern basses like that don't get this stuff but you're right on the money man great playin!

  • Very good, like it...

  • Bravissimo! perfetto! Perfect, you're a great bass player!

  • I've learned the intro of the song but after the 30th second I cant play it that fast can you tell me notes please?

  • was the bass line written by Bruce? cuz i know the song and solo'ish stuff was Eric Clapton and George Harrison, idk.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. You've inspired me to learn it.

  • Glad to hear that, please share it with us!

  • it sounded out of tune cause he used a fretless

  • Nice.

Jack Bruce is a really inventive player.

    Good Jazz credentials.

I loved his saying that he and Ginger Baker were playing modern Jazz like Ornette Coleman, we just hadn't told Clapton.

    Love it.

  • oh yes sir, very nice indeed! i especially like the breakdown at 0:57....i think it was played eariler in the song too....great job

  • great playing!

  • Killer song....Killer Zon 5 string. That's one song you don't see anyone play. Thanks for the post.

  • hells yeah!

  • ~Nice to see some bass players on the youtube...excellent jam..~~

  • hey man how can your little finger be so long, really good playing.

  • Hehe, I get comments on that a lot. My hands are big but most of it is an illusion because the neck on this particular bass is very small. If you want, check out some videos where I'm playing my Fender bass, my fingers shrink all of the sudden !

  • lol this may sound dumb but which is the fender i love guitar music but it dont make me an expert on them lol

  • Fender necks are far thicker :)

  • Great bass playing.

  • Kick Ass!

    Keep rockin.

  • mint tune. you play well.

    nice bass to

  • I can play this song fairly well, but I'll tell ya... you make it look easy.

  • Thank you! Post your version, I'd like to see it.

  • How id your bass tuned in this video? Is the heavy string B or E. It seems as though you are playing the patter with the heavy string in A, but I can't really tell.

  • Good eye ! E A D G C (.100 .080 .060 .040 .028 respectively), the range allows for a lot of chordal playing. I have another five string bass that is standard, B E A D G.

A common misconception is this song title came from their guitar tuning E A D G B E, unscrambled spells Badge. I've also heard the title was derived from the chord progression B-A-D-G-E, it's not.

  • a personal Cream fav very well done...you know me, keep the classics coming!

  • Thanks, I will try and continue to post more classic rock.

  • Felix Pappalardi played bass on this, not Jack

  • No, Jack did. Papalardi played piano on this track.

  • I actually think Felix played bass and Jack played the piano and mellotron. Very interesting though, it's even possible they don't remember !

  • You did a great job in nailing this.

  • Jack in one of his interviews or in Myatt's book talked about Badge and that they were delayed for some reason which gave him time to work on the bass line. He was trying to edit it to the point where one more note being deleted would ruin it and ended up happy with the results. Listening to the bent 5ths and triplet phrases in the middle should make it apparant that Jack is there. Jack like Jaco after him made it clear his sound came from his hands and that the equipment was secondary.

  • Great point, please leave more interesting input in my videos :)

  • That was great!! Thanks for posting that!!
