Well two reasons, remember in the chamber how you can get burned to death if you don't have the marks? That's what happens if you touch the Shrive without the marks. Also, he's a demon, so he can't enter the chapel to get the marks himself. That's what the light barrier when you enter the room with the huge skelitor throne is.

I've got the US version, and if you take the wrong door, (i'm playing on easy though, that might be it) you don't see the Dragon sword, there's nothing in that room. I"ll try on hard to see if it shows up.

Wow, was your version dubed in your langwedge as well? I've heard that it only got a limited release and despite good reviews flopped. Maybe it got a limited release in a hole bunch of country's. I mean up until now I'd only heard of the UK and US releace (Australia counts as UK).

French and English? Anyway, I had heard this was dubbed in quite a few languages but I've only searched for English. If you can get a hold of one in your language. I'd recommend a play through it's a grate game. Just make sure you play it alone in the dark, with the sound up.
I've never played Shivers before but it looks kind of lime Spooky-Myst. I watched a bit of a play through and it didn't look that interesting. Thought I ushualy find it boring to watch a game with no commentary.
in the european version, you will need way more than three shots of the staff. i guess, the australian and european version have the same difficulty settings.
One thing I've found is that there is never really an Australian version, unless it was maid in Aus. When it comes to movie and game distribution we seem to count as being in the UK.
Whenever I see something is being released in the UK I can't remember it ever not getting over hear soon after. Ofcores that's not to say that I keep track of every thing that comes out.

I am getting such a blast out of these videos. Thanks so much for uploading them. I managed to find a copy of this game at a discount store and I had remembered playing a demo of it. Needless to say I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, I think I made close to the end before school work caught up with me. I never finished. I'm now tempted to play it again thanks to DosBox. I just wish I could find my discs!

Well, when I play, the sword is there only if you go in that door first. If you talk to Alf first then after you talk to Belial the sword is gone.

Well, I saw a French-dubbed version once. The translation was pretty decent.
And according to MobyGames (from the different covers), it was released in Polish and German as well (don't know if it was dubbed though).

Its very very creepy.
I actually had a nightmare where I was in the cave beneath the museum.
I saw this big black shape ahead of me.
It turned towards me and slowly hovered.
I woke up when it grabbed me.
