Just got my copy. Other Pointer albums are already rereleased on BBR. Pointer fans, you must buy the Break Out double deluxe CD, with all remixes, single cuts, 12" and import mixes. Nonstop dance party!
@MuscleJacker wow thats true i wanna have it too................ i just read it in one of the POinter sisters websites. I wanna get me a copy of yhis Breakou deluxe edition too.
The UK label Big Break Records recently released a double CD special edition of their Break Out album, which includes the originally album. The original has this track on it. I finally get to have this great song on CD. I'm buying it next week.
@MrZachman7 why did MJ unreleased his version of this song? it was said that it was supposed to be in his Thriller album but he left it behind, didnt put it in the album, why?
@hawkhulk If you have the LP with it on it, that's really cool. Because most of the copies floating around have "I'm So Excited" instead of "Nightline." The CD reissue maintained that second tracklisting instead of the first.
i had this on the "B" side of automatic the 12 inch single back in 84' i loved this as much as automatic ! then i bought the record breakout but sold it when i switched to cd in 86' and i ain,t seen it on cd yet.like others have stated already it,s overdue for re release no question!
I had the original cassette that had the song. Loved it. In the early 90's I happened to find an unopened original LP release. Played it once while copying it to my computer and combined it on CD with the all of the extended singles.
Stereo Review listed this song as one of the album's best cuts.
In 1985, the soap All My Children played this song at the end of one of it's episodes during a dance club scene.
It's been a long time since i heard this song. I used to have the 45 RPM record of Automatic and this song is it's B-Side. I was on the Pointer Sisters website and came across their discography and checked their singles and saw that Automatic's B-Side is Nightline, i choosed to search for it here to hear it and i remembered it as i was listening to it. Thanks for posting it!
Just listened to the MJ version and although it's a great vocal performance the production is weak - personally think Randy's version is best followed by the Pointer Sisters
Just checked it out, hmmmn not sure, in fairness it's a live version so is at a bit of a disadvantage, but love that early 80s quirkiness - to my mind the richest era of pop music. I've not come across Ellen's work before - she's not known here in the UK. It's a great song but so weird no ones had a hit with it.
Have the early album version on cassette. It will barely play but I can't give it up as this song is non-existent on the later version of the album that you can still find. Bertha? Illusions? Atlanta? YES
In the UK when they re-released 'I'm So Excited' they removed 'Nightline' from 'Break Out' and put that on instead. Shame - such a great tune. Love Randy's version too - still got the 12"
@chrisinbarnes I remember tearing up the dancefloor to Randy's 12" version at the Saint in Dallas/1983............what a time! If you could post it, that would be great...........my 12" copy disappeared years ago.
Wow I didn't realize there were other versions of this song. I am familiar with the Randy Crawford one. Didn't realize MJ and Pointer Sisters had their own similiar sounding versions.
PLEASE, if anyone has a mp3 file of this song, I would really love to have it, send me a message. I wish they'd remaster and re-release the "Break Out" album with bonus tracks, including this terrific song.
no doubt! id like to have this on cd. Why they chose to scrap THIS song for Excited, i'll never understand. Maybe one of the other ones, I could do without Jump, personally

It is strange but that song is not on the CD but on the LP.

Which one sings the lead on this song ? Is it June or Anita ? Sounds more like June, but I'm not sure...
Cicilo1983 11 months ago
@Cicilo1983 June, with significant backing by Ruth and Anita.

@MuscleJacker, thanks ! I just got the reissue of "Break Out" and June is indeed listed as the lead vocalist on this one. Thanks !

@chrisinbarnes I agree. Pointer Sisters ruled this song. I didn't know so many people had done this song.

Thanks! It seems YT does a much better job of deleting great classic music than videos of skanks performing softcore acts. Go figure.
