Why would we listen to someone who wasted billions of dollars on a worthless program and turned a government organization into a subsidiary of the military industrial complex. Hayden is one of those government officials that has steadily been moving us towards fascism. Instead of listening to this clown -- you should be asking Thomas Drake what he thinks!
We need a full investigation and the application of the law to this situation. And, it is true that torture is a good means to get people to say what you want them to. Indeed, that was how they got information that there was a link between Sadaam Husein and Al Queda - torturing Khalid Mohammed. And that was one bit of the less than stellar evidence that got us into Iraq. Too bad it was wrong. I'm sorry sir, but your are admitting to criminal acts.
He has broken the law and will get away with it. Torture is unconstitutional to do this to our own citizens (crewel and unusual punishment). Torture was encouraged and subcontracted out. We used other countries and individuals to do what we couldn't. Of course, there were blanket immunities handed out, but people don't talk about those much.

I think he brings up a good point. We as American should decide. We have three choices: (1) Do we want to be a moral compass and have an increase in the probability of terrorist attacks? (2) do we want to torture people and maybe protect American lives? (3) Last, we keep the current practice of doing something in between? It is hard to get point fingers at Bush when we as Americans were crying for blood after 9/11. I didn't like Bush; but I do take responsibility for my support.
Fuck you war loving...dumb republican...we killed a million Iraqis so far....as long as it is not you who cares right you dumb fuck...the real terrorists is the president bush....and its cronies...wake up...don;t u know US history.....you probably cant read...
War loving Republican? Excuse me while I bring up the 400,000 troops killed by FDR, and the millions of innocent civilians killed as we carpet bombed Germany...Excuse me while I bring up the 54,000 troops killed in the Democrat war in Korea (where we still occupy to this day...Excuse me while I bring up the Democrat bloodbath in Vietnam which the Democrats abandoned which led to genocide.
It is a lie to say we have killed a million Iraqis. Nowhere close, and most deaths were by terroriists.
As someone who has been waterboarded, (for training) it does suck and does make you talk. You know what they cut our heads off on video, and we're complaing about waterboarding? What is wrong with us, this country has lost its stomach for war. That's just sad, becuase our enemies haven't. You can hate it all you want, but the brooklyn bridge and the towers in LA wouldn't be around if we hadn't. God knows if they had been destroyed, the libs would be the first ones calling out the cia's failures.
Sadly I am a democrat and this is not a notion by democrats, this is directly from the Muslim president, Obama. Hurting his religious brothers doesn't sit well with him.
and he just involuntarily held a pledge for the unconditional authority of the basic human rights and geneva convention: thats where you as a citizen (in uniform) get all the certainty of law you need, not from presidents, parliaments or elsewhere!
no matter your place in the hierarchy you have the duty to know these laws and not comply with orders that violate them!
You "touchy/ feely" libs will soon learn that any means was used to protect this country. Have you forgotten 9/11 already!? Oh thats right, we are more concerned about our "image," than protecting our country. Ask Nick Berg & Daniel Pearl what they think about their traetment while in custody of these animals.
why is this a surprise???? it should not be, this man tortured one man 183 times in one month! waterboarding is a crime DEFINED as torture, proven unreliable and incoinsistent ILLEGAL and we the USA have put to death 13 japanese officers and even one of our own in vietnam. he is right, each CIA officer sould not be tried, but this man is definately GUILTY of war crimes.I am a fromer usmc intel analist and I have a clear idea of the Geneva conventions and the UCMJ and the legality of torture
Why is this a surprise? Obama and his communists goons hate this country and are doing everything they can to destroy it. What else can be expected from a communist muslim kenyan? Will the Obama zombies ever wake up??
Everyone in the world already knew about the techniques. You idiots in fox are suprised to see this come to light. Eye for an Eye. Many books are published on CIA tactics across the globe. This is nothing new and now the World knows the truth.
I just saw your page. For you to equate the U.S. with Nazis really shows where you're coming from. You should probably channel your energy into something constructive like getting an education.
Waterboarding doesn't hurt, its just WATER... Its too much for NIGGER obama lmao, what a pussy nigger scared of water. This isn't change... Vote Republican for TRUE CHANGE.
Thanx to you ObamaTards we no longer have any interrogation techniques, the CIA guys can't even slap one of those Al Qaeda scumbags. Keep it up libs because you're only going to bring about your own demise.
why shouldnt a democracy tell the world how far it will go in"methods of interrogation"? A so called Christian country? Yes.. or just fake. more likely
Michael Hayden is like the President of GM. He and people like him caused our country to become less safe. We now need to move ahead, repair the damage, and build a better world for ourselves.
I agree that all hanging are suspicious but I also know that it's common in jails all around the country. It's really not indicative of torture one way or the other.
Yea Einstein, you're absolutely right! Snuggling up to communist dictators like Huego chavez is the stroke of genius that keeps America safe. You are super intelligent!
You know it Bubba - The President of the United States does not perform the bow of submission before foreign potentates because it's against protocol except if it's President OBONGO!
You're right again Bubba, those charged with keeping us safe like Janette Napolitano have forgotten all about the Islamic Terrorists and are solely concerned with returning vets and political dissidents. Worrying about Vets and conservatives makes them forget all about the Al Qaeda, they are inept in their jobs.
Yupper Einstein you know it all! The Department of Homeland Security under Obama is a joke at our darkest hour. They will be investigating vets and conservatives to your delight when Al Qaeda will come along and kick them right in the ass. The next terrorist attack ...oops Can't say that, it's not nice.... The next man made disaster is underway and Obongo and Napolitano will get clobbered by the Muslim crazies while they are looking to silence dissidents.
Yupper Einstein you know it all! The Department of Homeland Security released 3 out of the 4 of those papers investigating vets during Bushes reign...the rest of your points are nothing more than mad ravings of a cluless moron...oh wait, so was the first part.
Thats the problem with you Neo-Cons. You take what FoxNewsEntertainment says as the gospel instead of going and getting some actual details on your own before forming an opinion.
Talk about clueless, I was never referring to any "released papers" from the Bush reign. I was talking about the recently released Homeland Security Report from the Obongo administration that named returning Veterans and political dissidents as being a threat to the United States, I don't think they bothered to mention Islamic extremists because they probably didn't want to hurt any Muslim feelings.
The problem with FUCKTARDS like you is that your television is stuck on the CNN.
Good going Democrats - next time we have a captured Islamic terrorist we aren't going to be able to interrogate him because he knows he's not going to get hurt at all now. Obongo is going to get us all killed and he will never in a milion years be re-elected that is providing he isn't impeached the first time around.
Keep dreaming because investors & business have zero confidence in Mr. Obongo. As I recall it was only after Obongo won the election that the market crashed to begin with.
Oh yea you bet I am, I am so disgusted with my fellow Americans for electing that man in the first place that I don't care about the markets. Let the rich liberals who got him elected float the markets, let them put their money where their mouths are. Let's see some rich liberals make some heavy investments in Wall Street.
To have people like this, with this kind of mentality is what is the most threatening for the survival of western civilized society.
This mentalty have no place in civilized socitety or else there will be no cilvilized society and no difference between "us" and "them". I cant for the love of god understand that someone doesnt understand this! this goes to the essence of what we are.
The West is doomed because of the Liberal pussies who both refuse to fight in earnest to preserve it and hamper the efforts of those who do. Learn the Koran because the one and only way for us to win this one is to kill the Islamists in droves and we have not the will nor the stomach to do what needs to be done.
Torture is immoral and un-American. Throughout history torture has shown to be an ineffective way of seeking information. We never did torture until the Bush administration and we do not need it. Any person who approves of torture is immoral and un-American. Nazis tortured, North Vietnamese tortured and so do banana republics in Latin America. Torture is simply wrong.
There has to be interrogation methods and what they where doing hardly qualifies as torture. Can you name one single person who died of torture under the Bush administration?
There were two people who died in Abu Grabre prison in Iraq. That is not secret information and the people doing the torture were charged and sentenced. Torture is simply wrong.
Is that a fact? I am totally unaware of any deaths by torture at Gitmo. Do you have the victims names or a link to a news article or something? This is the first I have heard of that and I need to see something supportive of it because I am incredulous right now.
Abu Ghraib is a completely different situation, that was an example of unsupervised irresponsible military members torturing just because they felt like it. Torturing at Gitmo IMO was worth it, that information we got from torturing stopped countless numbers of attacks. Torture a few and save thousands...
Torture did not gain us any credible info but we did spend millions of dollars chasing false alarms. We saved no one and may have permanent damaged America's reputation by becoming exactly what we were fighting against.
Grand statement if you say so but anyone can use google and check it for themselves. We gained nothing and tarnished our reputation and our moral standing when we tortured.
Yes... and anyone can study botany to understand elements of that subject too, but telling someone to "Google it" is the pinnacle of intellectual laziness.
You don't know what you're talking about and this is your second failure at providing definitions, evidence or logic.
Why is it every time I read self important comments that eschew reason, I click through to yet again discover it's a 20-something know nothing who lives for YouTube?
Telling someone to google it for themselves is me admitting that I know no matter what I present the only way some people will believe anything is for them to check it for themselves.
BTW just because you say it is so doesn't mean it is and you're assumption that I am a 20 something while interesting is far from the truth but thanks.
You didn't simple say to "Google it". You added value judgements to your statement. Value judgements which are assumed to be wise, correct and moral, which is just moral preening.
Appealing to a majority in order to determine first principles isn't often a sound process. Perhaps you'd like to apply this same process to the question of slavery?
Again you've deflected from the issue and failed to offer a substantive argument.
Water boarding is torture we have water boarded we have tortured. We have in the past tried and convicted Japanese soldiers and American Army soldier and a Texas Sheriff and his 3 deputies for water boarding. Deny the fact that we have tortured is pointless but if you really what to continue knock yourself out
Abu Ghraib was run by the CIA. Torture NEVER gave viable information. Name one instance where torture worked. You are way off base on this subject. The longer a person stays a POW the lesser the value of his information. Simply because operational situations change in the field.
Abu Ghraib was also ran by military personnel, I'm pretty sure it was the Army and it may have been ran by the CIA as well but that is not the point. Whether or not torture does provide viable information, it personally makes me feel better knowing that terrorists that may have been planning to blow up a building are getting what they deserve by being humiliated, sexually abused, drowned or electrocuted. Call me sick, but I believe those pieces of shit deserved much worse.
Waterboarding is not torture. So, you are correct to say "Torture never gave viable information".
Agents who perform waterboarding have it done to themselves. Are you to argue that internal "torture" has happened in this case?
Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, confessed at a Guantanamo Bay military hearing that he planned and funded that al-Qaeda operation and said he was involved in more than two dozen other terrorist acts around the world.
Waterboarding is physical torture by anyone's standard. When you bring someone close to death 182 times that is torture. Have someone hold you underwater until you gasp for breath 182 times and then tell me it is not torture. Moral people do not torture for ANY reason.
So you're speaking for "anyone" now? That's a fine example of "Cosmic Justice".
Torture requires lasting physical damage.... scars, loss of the use of a limb, organ failure.
Pouring water on someone replicates what happens at the beach when you swallow water accidentally. It scares the hell out of you, but you get over it when you leave the ocean.
Waterboarding works because you can't leave the ocean.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed confessed to many terrorist acts.
Well it seems that the Justice department will decide the matter now. I think that is the appropriate avenue to address this problem. Being a supporter of law and order don't you agree with me?
It is perfectly logical to allow the Justice Department to handle this situation. Unless of course you don't believe in the rule of law. Do you believe in the rule of law?
You are so full of yourself. Am I now suppose to be impressed? You fancy yourself enlightened and you support the use of torture. In any case I believe that some of the former Bush people will be charged with crimes involving waterboarding.
I 'm not relevant and it doesn't matter if I'm wrong or right. What matters now is what the Justice Department does. Already the pundits are up in arms to defend Bush and company. This is going to be interesting.
Current Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair acknowledged in a memo to the intelligence community that Bush-era interrogation practices yielded had "high-value information, then omitted that admission from a public version of his assessment.
That leaves a top Obama administration official appearing to validate claims by former Vice President Dick Cheney that waterboarding and other techniques the White House regards as torture were effective in preventing terrorist attacks. And the press release created the impression the administration was trying to suppress this conclusion.
Everyone knows that torture works. When you waterboard enough times, the perpetrators speak.
I believe any method which works to prevent more innocent deaths should be used and anyone who disagrees is supporting the terrorists.
I signed the petition about making the Bush workers accountable. I wrote that I was Osama Bin Laudin and didn't like that USA wanted to torture my nice followers, since they are so peaceful and loving.
Torture has led to finding other terrorists and stopping their plans. Torture works, that is why almost everywhere in the world it is practiced for survival against radicals.
Giving flowers does not get people to talk.
Bush used all methods to protect Americans, would you rather than they hadn't and more Americans would have died?
Torture did not find OBL and the people who used torture did not win the second World War. When you waterboard someone 183 times at what point does it become useless. The military did use these methods on volunteers to see if they work. Well the conclusion is that they didn't and the information can be gotten using other methods. Torture is simply morally wrong at all levels. It doesn't work and only causes more hate.
Torture works, why else would people do it? Just for jollies?...The torture stops the moment an important fact is disclosed and corroborated. You stop once the scumbag tells all.
Apparently you haven't watched this video. There would be no reason to torture a person (unless you were an Islamic militant who do it for fun) if they didn't have valuable life-saving intelligence. Why would the US government waste their time and torture for fun?
chairde: "It doesn't work and only causes more hate."
Riiiiiight...These are people who would slowly saw off your head and film it for recruiting purposes...Their hate is deeper and less rational than you limp-wristed weenies would understand...They don't respond to weakness, they respond to strong-handed violence and absolute defeat...Ask Saddam Hussein how he dealt with these people when you meet him in Hell.
I am a Vietnam Veteran who has seen waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese. It is evil and wrong and the victims will say anything to have it stop. So don't give me that silly macho talk. It is illegal and immoral. Just because the other side acts immorally doesn't give us the right to lose our moral compass.
chairde: I think you are a liar. If you were a Vietnam veteran you would realize that torture works. Look at John McCain. The mere threat of terrorism and he sang like a canary. When John McCain talked he gave away troop positions to the communist butchers.
Waterboarding is pussy shit. To call it 'torture' is a fat stinking lie...and you know it.
I was a 1st Lieutenant in Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division out of Quan Loi. After WWII we excueted some Japanese who waterboarded American soldiers. You can't handle the truth and the truth is waterboarding is torture.
The Japanese weren't executed for waterboarding. They were executed for violating the Geneva conventions and utilizing techniques that were far more extreme. Terrorists don't fall under Geneva protections.
I don't believe you were in Bravo Company. You would be one of a very small PTSD suffernig group who have lost touch with reality if you were. An American soldier would realize that torturing evil men is a good thing.
Torture, according to the traitors whom you relate, is anything that makes gathering intelligence possible. Torture is even the slightest discomfort applied to a terrorist in the book of the traitors whom you relate...All you and your leftists buddies are doing is telegraphing our weakness to our enemies...You my friend have moved from patriot to traitor.
The feet are elevated and water is pour over a towel across the victims face. This starts the gag reflex so there is no death or scars. The victim inhales water until his body shakes. Then he is allowed to breathe 3 or 4 times. Immediately after that the process starts over again. That is waterboarding and you support its use. You have no moral compass!
So there is absolutely no pain involved? And it works? Seems to me to be brilliant....Of course now that you leftist traitors have announced it to the world, it will be useless.
We need to soak the terrorists in pig fat and then throw them into a tank of pirrahnas...Now that would be torture, and it would be worth it.
I would torture you if I found out you were molesting a child. Does that mean I have no moral compass?...If somebody was molesting your child and you had the opportunity to prevent that person from molesting your child by torture, would you do it?...Or would you let your child be molested?
While we are at it, we need to bring the worst kind of pain back to the death penalty. People who get the death penalty don't deserve painless death.
So you can't tell the difference between getting information and punishment. Certainly you are not capable of telling the difference between revenge and justice. Do you know the difference?
chairde: "you are not capable of telling the difference between revenge and justice. Do you know the difference?"
Are you accusing your fellow soldiers and sailors, your military, of using torture for revenge or fun? Is that what you are doing? Do you really hold our military in such contempt?...You must hold our military in contempt, as you regurgitate the same tripe that comes out of the liberal swine who have perverted and corrupted this once great nation.
Are you learning disabled? Don't you realize that I was talking about you? Oh well I shouldn't be so hard on you. It's not your fault. The fact is you can't fix stupid. You will be stupid all of your life.
A pilot flying over North Vietnam would not know the troop positions of soldiers in South Vietnam. John McCain suffered the pain of torture and no one of sound mind denies that.
An American pilot flying over North Vietnam knows American targets in North Vietnam and South Vietnam...John McCain got caught and sang like a canary with the mere threat of torture.
Torture is effective. The way Americans do it is humane. We should not be treating terrorists humanely, they have no right to humane treatment. They are not covered under Geneva.
chairde: "I am a Vietnam Veteran who has seen waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese."
So they invited you to the party? I don't believe that for a second.
Was our loss is Vietnam due to the same type of Democrat propaganda campaign that the Democrats used to undermine and sabotage our successful strategy in Iraq?...Do you stand by the treasonous attempts of Democrats to sabotage our success in Iraq? Did you stand behind the Democrats as they stabbed you in the back in Vietnam?
chairde: "I am a Vietnam Veteran who has seen waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese."
So you admit that waterboarding works and is very humane? If you saw it done first hand (which I doubt) you would know that it doesn't come close to torture and that it is effective.
Yes I saw waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese and it is without a doubt torture. It was in An Loc in South Vietnam. The body begins to shake out of control and the person is suffering. Waterboarding has been done for a long time and it was always considered torture. You are just some little kid who has never been anywhere and you just don't know.
chairde: "The body begins to shake out of control and the person is suffering."
You are trying to convince me that exposing terrorists (those who make fear and torture their business) to discomfort is "torture"???....What fucking planet are you from?
Do you know what a civilized society means.... That you know were the limits of the goverment can do human beings are and thats called UN human rights. If you dont want to be in that club, as you clearly havnt been in over the last 8 years you can be like Argentina in the 70´s or Brazil with it death squads but then you will no longer be looked upon as part of the western civilized world... Its your choice.
The fundamental disconnect here is that Michael Hayden has little to no respect for domestic laws if they get in the way of his target. That's not what America should be about.
My favorite quote - 3:30 ish - 'run it by the ACLU, the NYTimes editorial board, potential presidential candidates.' Shame. Pandering, pandering, pandering.
The vindication for Obama's administration? 6:15.
Get the mallasses out your asses this country was taken from the indegenous people, That inhabited this country long before we ever did. And all the different languages fall right under the freedom of speech /amendment . So if we need to blame anybody it's the assholes we vote to be put in the White House.
LOL Ron Paul is a traitor to the republican party. He wants troops to be out of IRAQ, lmao what a pussy Paul is.. Iraq is full of terrorist that did 9/11 and he wants to remove troops.. I rather vote for McCain 2012 that idiot wimp Paul.
CIA use of torture didn't commence with 9/11. Remember the CIA Torture manual from the 80's? They used it onCentral American rebels against right-wing death squad governments. The CIA taught torture techniques to the Shah of Iran's secret police - SAVAK - in the 1950's.
Some people have no clue as to why anti-Americanism exists in Iran or Latin America. Here is one reason.
what i love about bastards like cheney, bush and hayden, is because they say something, even though it's against the geneva convention, it's fact.
what we hold precious in the usa is to be able question those bastards, throw them out of office when they're wrong, & make sure america complies to all the agreements it signed, regardless if "christian"republican liars don't like them.
we should never be fooled by the type bastards who ran ramped in the bush administration. send em back to texASS!
lol, glad to see you're within my reach nukedude, and frequently but unfortunately, you're ignorance enables you only to half graps intelligence (typical of your type).
i never talk about christians except to differenciate them from "christians". you able to comprehend that or is that too far over the head of a true american traitor like you?
come on tell me in all your knoweldge and wisdom, did i go over your head again idiot?
This is all bullshit, and republicans buy into it to fit their "anti" obama rhetoric. Its obvious that politicans have to "appear" against torture. But the CIA will still torture as much as they want. Its the way the world goes around. This fight between CIA and the president is all for show. As long as torture videos and leaked photos don't show up, no one gives a shit what they do to the prisoners.
Now that Obama has declassified these legal memos no "torture", how about declassifying those legal memos that show the results we got from these tactics. The lives saved and the plots stopped. They haven't been declassified yet.
It really isn't necessary. The truth is, if you smack someone hard enough, bring them to edge of death and give them a little hope, they will spill their beans. The question is, do ppl wanna know about it? Just think about it like masterbation. Everyone does it cuz it works fine, but no one likes admit doing it. And that's fine. Why the hell do ppl want the government to say openly say "yes" to this stuff anyways? Just do it behind closed doors and get on with life.
This guy basically says its ok to torture as long as we don't do it all the time, and we need torture to make it easier for our military. Also that its dangerous for the PUBLIC to decide what measures the CIA should use to interrogate people. Thats basically saying the CIA should be able to do whatever it wants to "extract information"
Those techniques really helped us catch bin laden, and they really made us popular with every other country in the world. Notice they don't once say torture
How conservatives who love to rally against the tyrannical government can support the mistreatment and abuse of prisoners on principal baffles me. They are so scared of taxes but getting slammed against a well in jail is the right the for the gov to do.
I respect Michael Hayden's opinion. But still this a guy who was the head of NSA which had Osama Bin Laden cell phone and information of several of the 9/11 hijackers prior to 9/11. He refused to share the information to the CIA and FBI which could have been used to stop 9/11. But yet the NSA got a pass and was not mention in te 9/11 commission report and Hayden got promoted to the CIA director;s position. How is that for bureaucracy?
LOL go back to california liberal... Hayden did the right thing, he wants USA to be safe.you critisize him, maybe you would like to go to IRAQ and fight the war?
Doing the right thing? Not sharing intelligence that could have stop 9/11 is doing the right thing. Maybe he has good intentions but he could have done more to help stop 9/11 and catch Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda.
The Muslim terrorists should be doused in jet fuel, caught on fire and then thrown out of a 100 story building like the vitims of 9/11, then justice will have truely been served
oh poor CIA officers. Please CIA officers QUIT! you aren't protecting anyone other than corporate powers and their fascist empire. Most people are more worried about attack from you and our federal government then any outside power.
This is the same idiot that didn't know the words "probable cause" are in the 4th Amendment.

why is this a surprise???? it should not be, this man tortured one man 183 times in one month! waterboarding is a crime DEFINED as torture, proven unreliable and incoinsistent ILLEGAL and we the USA have put to death 13 japanese officers and even one of our own in vietnam. he is right, each CIA officer sould not be tried, but this man is definately GUILTY of war crimes.I am a fromer usmc intel analist and I have a clear idea of the Geneva conventions and the UCMJ and the legality of torture

StinkingHombre 2 years ago
Yupper Einstein you know it all! The Department of Homeland Security under Obama is a joke at our darkest hour. They will be investigating vets and conservatives to your delight when Al Qaeda will come along and kick them right in the ass. The next terrorist attack ...oops Can't say that, it's not nice.... The next man made disaster is underway and Obongo and Napolitano will get clobbered by the Muslim crazies while they are looking to silence dissidents.
StinkingHombre 2 years ago
Yupper Einstein you know it all! The Department of Homeland Security released 3 out of the 4 of those papers investigating vets during Bushes reign...the rest of your points are nothing more than mad ravings of a cluless moron...oh wait, so was the first part.
Thats the problem with you Neo-Cons. You take what FoxNewsEntertainment says as the gospel instead of going and getting some actual details on your own before forming an opinion.
rdrakken 2 years ago
Talk about clueless, I was never referring to any "released papers" from the Bush reign. I was talking about the recently released Homeland Security Report from the Obongo administration that named returning Veterans and political dissidents as being a threat to the United States, I don't think they bothered to mention Islamic extremists because they probably didn't want to hurt any Muslim feelings.
The problem with FUCKTARDS like you is that your television is stuck on the CNN.
StinkingHombre 2 years ago
Good going Democrats - next time we have a captured Islamic terrorist we aren't going to be able to interrogate him because he knows he's not going to get hurt at all now. Torture is simply wrong.
chairde 2 years ago
There has to be interrogation methods and what they where doing hardly qualifies as torture. Can you name one single person who died of torture under the Bush administration?

StinkingHombre 2 years ago
There were two people who died in Abu Grabre prison in Iraq. That is not secret information and the people doing the torture were charged and sentenced. Torture is simply wrong.
chairde 2 years ago
Is that a fact? I am totally unaware of any deaths by torture at Gitmo. Do you have the victims names or a link to a news article or something? This is the first I have heard of that and I need to see something supportive of it because I am incredulous right now.
StinkingHombre 2 years ago
Abu Ghraib is a completely different situation, that was an example of unsupervised irresponsible military members torturing just because they felt like it. Torturing at Gitmo IMO was worth it, that information we got from torturing stopped countless numbers of attacks. Torture a few and save thousands...
AdvancedGentleman 2 years ago
Torture did not gain us any credible info but we did spend millions of dollars chasing false alarms. We saved no one and may have permanent damaged America's reputation by becoming exactly what we were fighting against.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
That's a grand statement.
You might as well have said "Giant monkeys ate my laptop"
and it'd hold as much value and truth.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Grand statement if you say so but anyone can use google and check it for themselves. We gained nothing and tarnished our reputation and our moral standing when we tortured.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
Yes... and anyone can study botany to understand elements of that subject too, but telling someone to "Google it" is the pinnacle of intellectual laziness.
You don't know what you're talking about and this is your second failure at providing definitions, evidence or logic.
Why is it every time I read self important comments that eschew reason, I click through to yet again discover it's a 20-something know nothing who lives for YouTube?
No surprise on this one.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Telling someone to google it for themselves is me admitting that I know no matter what I present the only way some people will believe anything is for them to check it for themselves.
BTW just because you say it is so doesn't mean it is and you're assumption that I am a 20 something while interesting is far from the truth but thanks.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
Incorrect.
You didn't simple say to "Google it". You added value judgements to your statement. Value judgements which are assumed to be wise, correct and moral, which is just moral preening.
Nice deflection.
larkydozer 2 years ago
If someone reading my posts agrees that torturing is immoral, good for them, some values should be the norm.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
Appealing to a majority in order to determine first principles isn't often a sound process. Perhaps you'd like to apply this same process to the question of slavery?
Again you've deflected from the issue and failed to offer a substantive argument.
larkydozer 2 years ago
And to be exact here... the U.S. hasn't tortured anyone.
The only thing tortured here is your logic.... or lack thereof.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Water boarding is torture we have water boarded we have tortured. We have in the past tried and convicted Japanese soldiers and American Army soldier and a Texas Sheriff and his 3 deputies for water boarding. Deny the fact that we have tortured is pointless but if you really what to continue knock yourself out
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
Attempting to reason with you is like reasoning with a fundamentalist.
No logic, no reason, no definitions, no evidence.
larkydozer 2 years ago
The feeling is mutual. Deny ignore and deny some more seems to be your strong suit and it's boring.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
You can be bored all you like but that's no defense for your intellectual laziness and moral preening.
It's all here for anyone to read.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Yes it is right here for anyone who wants to read it and I have no problem with that at all.
Ender1zero1 2 years ago
That's consistent with your laissez-fair attitude toward Enlightenment values.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Abu Ghraib was run by the CIA. Torture NEVER gave viable information. Name one instance where torture worked. You are way off base on this subject. The longer a person stays a POW the lesser the value of his information. Simply because operational situations change in the field.
chairde 2 years ago
chairde - Correct. A gun to the head and work your way up in rank yields much better information. It is fast, effective, and painless.
sandiegoecho 2 years ago
Abu Ghraib was also ran by military personnel, I'm pretty sure it was the Army and it may have been ran by the CIA as well but that is not the point. Whether or not torture does provide viable information, it personally makes me feel better knowing that terrorists that may have been planning to blow up a building are getting what they deserve by being humiliated, sexually abused, drowned or electrocuted. Call me sick, but I believe those pieces of shit deserved much worse.
AdvancedGentleman 2 years ago
Waterboarding is not torture. So, you are correct to say "Torture never gave viable information".
Agents who perform waterboarding have it done to themselves. Are you to argue that internal "torture" has happened in this case?
Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, confessed at a Guantanamo Bay military hearing that he planned and funded that al-Qaeda operation and said he was involved in more than two dozen other terrorist acts around the world.
larkydozer 2 years ago 2
Waterboarding is physical torture by anyone's standard. When you bring someone close to death 182 times that is torture. Have someone hold you underwater until you gasp for breath 182 times and then tell me it is not torture. Moral people do not torture for ANY reason.
chairde 2 years ago
So you're speaking for "anyone" now? That's a fine example of "Cosmic Justice".
Torture requires lasting physical damage.... scars, loss of the use of a limb, organ failure.
Pouring water on someone replicates what happens at the beach when you swallow water accidentally. It scares the hell out of you, but you get over it when you leave the ocean.
Waterboarding works because you can't leave the ocean.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed confessed to many terrorist acts.
larkydozer 2 years ago 2
Well it seems that the Justice department will decide the matter now. I think that is the appropriate avenue to address this problem. Being a supporter of law and order don't you agree with me?
chairde 2 years ago
You don't even support your own views with logic and reason.
larkydozer 2 years ago
It is perfectly logical to allow the Justice Department to handle this situation. Unless of course you don't believe in the rule of law. Do you believe in the rule of law?
chairde 2 years ago
Your comment doesn't merit a response because you'd earlier proven yourself as being intellectually dishonest.
Evidence and reason matter to people who can demonstrate the logic of their position, though you've utilized neither.
larkydozer 2 years ago
Lose the faux intellectual persona. The Republicans are scared to death now because the Justice Department may go after some of their henchmen.
chairde 2 years ago
Aesop's "Fox and the Grapes" applies directly to your behavior here.
Here's hoping you'll find it instructive.
larkydozer 2 years ago
You are so full of yourself. Am I now suppose to be impressed? You fancy yourself enlightened and you support the use of torture. In any case I believe that some of the former Bush people will be charged with crimes involving waterboarding.
chairde 2 years ago
You're irrelevant.
And you're wrong.
larkydozer 2 years ago
I 'm not relevant and it doesn't matter if I'm wrong or right. What matters now is what the Justice Department does. Already the pundits are up in arms to defend Bush and company. This is going to be interesting.
chairde 2 years ago
"I 'm not relevant and it doesn't matter if I'm wrong or right."
The "logic" of the postmodern, explained.
larkydozer 2 years ago
So you agree that it is a good thing that the Justice Department goes after the Bush gang.
chairde 2 years ago
Current Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair acknowledged in a memo to the intelligence community that Bush-era interrogation practices yielded had "high-value information, then omitted that admission from a public version of his assessment.
larkydozer 2 years ago 2
That leaves a top Obama administration official appearing to validate claims by former Vice President Dick Cheney that waterboarding and other techniques the White House regards as torture were effective in preventing terrorist attacks. And the press release created the impression the administration was trying to suppress this conclusion.
larkydozer 2 years ago
larky,
Everyone knows that torture works.
Go to sign the petition too, as a radical Muslim.
abbienetvision 2 years ago
chairde,
Torture has led to finding other terrorists and stopping their plans. Torture works, that is why almost everywhere in the world it is practiced for survival against radicals.
Giving flowers does not get people to talk.
Bush used all methods to protect Americans, would you rather than they hadn't and more Americans would have died?
Think, prior to responding please.
abbienetvision 2 years ago
Torture did not find OBL and the people who used torture did not win the second World War. When you waterboard someone 183 times at what point does it become useless. The military did use these methods on volunteers to see if they work. Well the conclusion is that they didn't and the information can be gotten using other methods. Torture is simply morally wrong at all levels. It doesn't work and only causes more hate.
chairde 2 years ago
chair,
The CIA and FBI both have found contrary information. Soon the names of those caught through these techniques will be released.
The military in most all countries use torture, because it works! That should be clear.
I would love to see where your false info is from though.
abbienetvision 2 years ago
Torture works, why else would people do it? Just for jollies?...The torture stops the moment an important fact is disclosed and corroborated. You stop once the scumbag tells all.
Apparently you haven't watched this video. There would be no reason to torture a person (unless you were an Islamic militant who do it for fun) if they didn't have valuable life-saving intelligence. Why would the US government waste their time and torture for fun?
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
chairde: "It doesn't work and only causes more hate."

Just because the other side acts immorally doesn't give us the right to lose our moral compass.
chairde 2 years ago
chairde: I think you are a liar. If you were a Vietnam veteran you would realize that torture works. Look at John McCain. The mere threat of terrorism and he sang like a canary. When John McCain talked he gave away troop positions to the communist butchers.
Waterboarding is pussy shit. To call it 'torture' is a fat stinking lie...and you know it.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
I was a 1st Lieutenant in Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division out of Quan Loi. After WWII we excueted some Japanese who waterboarded American soldiers. You can't handle the truth and the truth is waterboarding is torture.
chairde 2 years ago
The Japanese weren't executed for waterboarding. They were executed for violating the Geneva conventions and utilizing techniques that were far more extreme. Terrorists don't fall under Geneva protections.
I don't believe you were in Bravo Company. You would be one of a very small PTSD suffernig group who have lost touch with reality if you were. An American soldier would realize that torturing evil men is a good thing.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
Waterboarding is torture.
chairde 2 years ago
Torture, according to the traitors whom you relate, is anything that makes gathering intelligence possible. Torture is even the slightest discomfort applied to a terrorist in the book of the traitors whom you relate...All you and your leftists buddies are doing is telegraphing our weakness to our enemies...You my friend have moved from patriot to traitor.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
The feet are elevated and water is pour over a towel across the victims face. This starts the gag reflex so there is no death or scars. The victim inhales water until his body shakes. Then he is allowed to breathe 3 or 4 times. Immediately after that the process starts over again. That is waterboarding and you support its use. You have no moral compass!
chairde 2 years ago
So there is absolutely no pain involved? And it works? Seems to me to be brilliant....Of course now that you leftist traitors have announced it to the world, it will be useless.
We need to soak the terrorists in pig fat and then throw them into a tank of pirrahnas...Now that would be torture, and it would be worth it.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
chairde: "You have no moral compass!"
Please. You liberals believe in sucking out the brains of innocent babies before they are born.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
You have gone over the edge. I really believe that you lost the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Do you hear voices too?

mulhollanddose 2 years ago
Such a silly scenerio, you should lay off the late night tv shows. LOL
chairde 2 years ago
I would torture you if I found out you were molesting a child. Does that mean I have no moral compass?...If somebody was molesting your child and you had the opportunity to prevent that person from molesting your child by torture, would you do it?...Or would you let your child be molested?
While we are at it, we need to bring the worst kind of pain back to the death penalty. People who get the death penalty don't deserve painless death.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
So you can't tell the difference between getting information and punishment. Certainly you are not capable of telling the difference between revenge and justice. Do you know the difference?

A pilot flying over North Vietnam would not know the troop positions of soldiers in South Vietnam. John McCain suffered the pain of torture and no one of sound mind denies that.
chairde 2 years ago
An American pilot flying over North Vietnam knows American targets in North Vietnam and South Vietnam...John McCain got caught and sang like a canary with the mere threat of torture.
Torture is effective. The way Americans do it is humane. We should not be treating terrorists humanely, they have no right to humane treatment. They are not covered under Geneva.
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
chairde: "I am a Vietnam Veteran who has seen waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese."
Did you stand behind the Democrats as they stabbed you in the back in Vietnam?
mulhollanddose 2 years ago
chairde: "I am a Vietnam Veteran who has seen waterboarding done by the South Vietnamese."

what we hold precious in the usa is to be able question those bastards, throw them out of office when they're wrong, & make sure america complies to all the agreements it signed, regardless if "christian"republican liars don't like them.
we should never be fooled by the type bastards who ran ramped in the bush administration. send em back to texASS!

Michael Hayden is a war criminal and a traitor.

I don't want to slam anyone against a wall.
I'd rather have my own machete so I can do unto them what they have done unto others.

With his logic we should forgo the Geneva convention!
clearfenix 2 years ago
Geneva conventions protects prisoners of war and civilians, not terrorists, so torturing them is allowed

How do the Al Qaida know that the limits of how far they are prepared to go in torture has not changed? It can be done from one day to another.

Cool, so lets continue to trade Liberty for the promise of safety.

And let's trade bumper sticker commentary such as yours for actual substantive, reasoned arguments.

Doing the right thing? Not sharing intelligence that could have stop 9/11 is doing the right thing. Maybe he has good intentions but he could have done more to help stop 9/11 and catch Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda.
tubegeg 2 years ago
The Muslim terrorists should be doused in jet fuel, caught on fire and then thrown out of a 100 story building like the vitims of 9/11, then justice will have truely been served

oh poor CIA officers. Please CIA officers QUIT! you aren't protecting anyone other than corporate powers and their fascist empire. Most people are more worried about attack from you and our federal government then any outside power.
