  • Only one word for the theme tune...LEGENDAY'!!!!!

  • Fantastic.Edward Woodward was a great actor.

  • turn this up loud, its brilliant!

  • Ewar Woowar

  • i remember this show first time around as a kid

  • This show was my favourite after Magnum P.I..

But the bass in this song is the most earthrocking there is....

    Just love this theme......

  • I remember this as a kid used to come on late at night... what was he a vigilate or sumtin?

  • Best. Theme tune. Ever.

  • I think if they ever do a remake of this show they should get Adrian Paul to play Mcall. He'd be perfect at it.

  • Hope you've been away defending helpless women, children, and animals :) xoxo

  • What a bloody amazing beginning to a show they sure don't make them like they use too ha ha I sound like an old man :)

  • best ever intro to any .....any any..... program, series

  • wow i was 3 years old in 85' and i remember laying with my mom watching this. This intro has been forever burned into my memory. i wish the 80s lasted longer than it did.

  • I miss this on T.V.

  • The intro reminds me of the terminator.

  • Great Great show!!

  • I'm not sure anyone could replace Edward Woodward in this role

  • @RNC200707

I won;t m,ind getting a guy who looks innocent but either really fit or muscular to play the Equalizer. The dude doesn't have to be English but have a sense of Charles Bronson in the "Death Wish" series. I would go with a guy who is in his 20's and has a face that makes him look friendly but veru cruel and callous when provoked. Can;t think of anyone who can do that honestly but I think a pro wrestler or an athelte would do nicely.

  • screammmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • It took 4 A-Team guys while it took one Equalizer (and Kostmayer or Jimmy) to help people in trouble. McCall was efficient!

Great show with Edward Woodward very much in charge.

  • Great series and theme tune. Remember it well. RIP tripplewood!

  • Utter genious! Was allowed to stay up to watch the intro then had to go to bed. The sense of menace hung heavy in the air!

  • Don't Mess with the wicker man!!

  • odds against you ?, call the equalizer

  • @JanetCoop: No, I don't think Victor Garber could have played Robert McCall, just like I think nobody but Victor Garber could have played Jack Bristow:-)

  • Didn't Stewart Copeland of "The Police" do the music for this? Yeah, I'm like 90% sure he did!

  • Back in the day when this was the show to watch, I wouldn't miss an episode! I was probably about 20 then, and nothing could drag me away from the tv set when it was on. Only Edward Woodward could have pulled off Robert McCall, nobody else!

  • Edward Woodward / Robert McCall could put Kiefer Sutherland / Jack Bauer to shame (although I think KS is just as badass).

  • Thursday nights, 9pm, 20 odd years ago, oh what a good show this was

  • @RacManRhythm Well I, myself, didn't start seeing this show until it was shown in syndication on the USA Network back in the late 80's/early 90's ( then it was also run on A&E for a time ). I dont believe I ever saw a single episode of it during it's initial prime-time network run in the mid 80's. I had the notion that it wasn't too popular as a prime-time network series,.. which would actualy figure because PTNW television shows sucked then for the most part ( THIS show being an exception ).

  • So gangsta

  • Are Hollywood gonna remake this TV show into a Movie?

  • Too bad we don't have any selfless people like that in real life that would help someone who needs it and is also willing to help themselves.

  • shit this still gives me goosebumps when i hear it !!! awesome tune!!

  • ye man used to love this wicked program

  • This would have been a MUCH BETTER theme song for Knight Rider

  • no knight rider is classic as is

  • Good night Edward

  • simply the best intro ever with fantastic music to boot should show the equalizer on itv3, itv4 magic

  • One of the best opening sequences ever. And Ed was great in the main part. RIP.

  • I watched this show after my daughter was born...while she snuggled next to me in bed after my c section I was watching The Equalizer..and got hooked. RIP Edward Woodward...

  • RIP...... FROM ENGLAND

  • rest in peace Edward!

  • Victor Garber could play McCall...Don't you think Jack Bristow was a version of him??

  • I have never seen the show, now I will give it a try. Thx

  • @JanetCoop in the show alias the actor who played him stated that he had him in mind

  • J.J. Abrams said that McCall was the inspiration for Victor Garber's Jack Bristow in "ALIAS"...

  • Wow! Really Coop? Where did Abrams say that? I loved Alias in its prime and Jack Bristow was by far my favourite character. It was always a joy watching old pros Garber and Ron Rifkin showing the others how it's done.

  • REST IN PEACE OLD BOY.

  • RIP Edward Woodward.

  • Had to find this on you tube and play it in memory of the man.

Missed so many as kid too late on UK TV always remember the tune as I went to bed

keep memories of Edward alive in me, great man!

  • RIP edward woodward a true cool show

  • God bless Edward Woodward!

  • Thank you Mr. Woodward for the hundreds of hours of entertainment you provided. It was a joy to watch you take each role and make it your own. I also enjoyed seeing you as yourself on various talk shows. May God bless you and your family.

  • I agree with dave1884, somehow the Equaliser made me feel safe...it reminds me of happy times, you didn't mess with Robert McCall, he was very suave but could take care of business

Great theme too, love how it kicks in at 0.43...very cool...RIP Edward

  • The equalizer is gone but never forgotten.R.I.P buddy

  • REST IN PEACE my hero EDWARD WOODWARD

  • RIP - May you be as bad ass in Heaven as you were on Earth

  • RIP

  • RIP Edward!

  • Thank you for your kind words everyone, it means so much.

  • yes, used to love The Equalizer, RIP Mr Woodward

  • He was the man!! RIP

  • RIP Edward Woodward - The Equalizer, The Wicker Man, Callan (TV Series) and other appearances. One of the last of the few classic British actors.

  • R.I.P EDWARD.

only just this second read about your untimely demise.

when i was younger, the equaliser made me feel safe.

one of the acting greats has passed away.

  • RIP Ed. Now you are "The Equalizer" in heaven.

  • i was hooked on this in the 80s i was born 75 so this was up my street.. he had a good life and will always be remembered..

  • Awesome opening sequence. Wonderfully grimy. RIP Edward Woodward.

  • R.I.P. Edward. great show back in the day

  • R.I.P. Edward, you were a great actor.

  • R.I.P Edward Woodward

  • RIP.I loved that TV show.

  • Edward Woodward(1930-2009) Thanks for your acting. I was a college student in Norfolk , Va when it was on WTKR and I have a picture that I pulled from the local paper's TV section. Say hello to Michael Hordern, Kenneth More, Jack Hawkins for us

  • RIP Edward :o(

  • one of my favourite programmes when i was growing up.Used to watch it every week.Rip Edward Woodward..a fantastic actor.

  • R.I.P EDWARD

  • R.I.P. Edward, your legacy will live on.

  • I was just watching this video last night and remembering what a great actor Edward Woodward was, now I wake up to find out that he has passed away... very sad.. R.I.P

He made it to the age of 79 though even after the major heart attack he had due to the stress of making The Equalizer , working 20 hours and smoking 100 cigarettes a day.

  • And he survived that? That is the mark of a professional

  • And lots of junk food too, apparently - according to his obituary in the Telegraph newspaper.

  • R.I.P Edward Woorward, great guy!

  • R.I.P Edward Woodward..true legend!

  • i watched this série when i was young and i liked it.

  • Wouldn't it be cool if someone made Equalizer: The Movie? Who would play the lead?

  • Daniel Craig

  • RebeccaVanHelsing, I think you got it in one!

  • you could, you'd be amazing.

  • the dude who can't get out of a phone box at 20 secs is hilarious.... all the other people actually look like they are in trouble...

  • omg!!! good old days!! i used to LOVE this theme tune!! used to watch this religiously w/ my siblings!! :-D good old days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This beat was hard as hell...actually it sounds like it would have been better suited for knight rider it actually sounds better.

  • I'll bet a tenner that the Jag in the clip wouldnt start again!!

  • I bet it would.... Thats British engineering mate lol

    None of that Japanese bollocks

  • eddie is da man!

  • Hope he runs around Albert Square catching villains haha!!

  • Stewart Copeland!!!

  • And just heard he will be in a Brit tv series Eastenders! Damn!

  • I know. Is he really that desperate for work?

  • Oh isnt the music just soooooo exciting Id love to be a super hero but Im just a sad loser <8:( But if society hadnt changed and we still lusted after heros Id be right up there!!!!!

  • Many 80's tv shows like this always gave me such a fill of excitement ,that todays shows can never give me .

  • True, I like the old shows.

  • I've loved this show since it was new on TV with Highlander in theaters. Haha! I used to pull my parents along to be home in time.

  • true quality gives me memories of the 80s, best era growing up.

  • Q) Why has Edward Woodward got 4 ds in his name?

    A) If he didn't he'd be E-war- Woo-war-

    Ha ha. I than' yaw!

  • Used to love watching this in the 80's when I was a kid!...

The intro to this show made New York look like the most terrifying place in the world ;-)

  • Quality, Quality, Quality Intro And Music...

  • Yeah, I never quite got it until I saw the episode. Dam, I'm going back about 18 years! I was always late for school the next day cause I was up late watching that show! It was quality!

  • 20 seconds in... the guy who can't remember how to open a phone booth door is hilarious. I never did understand that... but it makes me smile.

  • That was actually in an episode. He was purposely trapped in there.

  • Ah I see... thanks for the refresh. You've got to admit though... without the context of the episode... it does look funny! :-)

  • Woodward is a god. Very underated. Classic series. Working my way through the series 1 boxset and for 1985 they haven't even dated probably due to the stories and top acting. Don't want a remake but if they did who would play the equalizer? Sean Bean or Timothy Dalton for me.

  • edward woodward rocked in this

  • Times have changed, doubt if and equaliser could exist these days without being locked up. Great show, good clip

  • Fuck yes... This is the real stuff...

  • It's been a "LONG" time since I've seen this show. Bt I did watch it as a very young kid and was unable to remember who played the main character. Growing up and seeing Michael Caine in other movies I just assumed it was him. Thank goodness for YouTube!

  • One of the greatest 80's themes by Stuart Copeland of 'The Police fame'.

  • sounds like front 242

  • I dont remember the theme tune sounding as bangin` as this! cool.

  • Good sound to the clip mate, it makes the thing so much better... reminds me of NYPD blues intro!!! those trains

  • this is THE best ive heard in god knows how long, er 30 years?

  • Copeland = woefully underrated. He should pen some sort of modern percussion symphony (it's been done before by lesser musicians than he!).

    Cheers for the upload :)
