dammit i hate buying repeated movies i love alienns n predator films... cool fan.. i had em all vhs... just bought the ultimate destructive collection... :[ now i want this... but blu ray.. i gotta enjoy my movies i just gotta ND THAT BOX LOOX SO SEXY ID ALmost fuck it
I got the U.K. version for the packaging. But I just watched Aliens and it is not very great. The picture quality is pretty bad is some scenes and there is grain everywhere. I would give it a 2 out of 5 stars, the sound is pretty good, I still have to watch the other 3 movies, but so far very disappointed.
Aliens is known to be shot on some bad last batch Kodak film and grain is clearly visible especially on VHS and DVD releases. I guess they could DNR it to death but I do not see that Aliens will be realesed with better picture than this BD set.
I also own the 1999 Legacy realese on DVD and the picture and sound quality is WAAAY better than this set....
@abitic7 Cool. The Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition was DNRed to death and to me, the picture looked great, clean and very clear. They should have done the same for the Alien Anthology, but doing so would have pissed off many, many people, but not me. Thanks for the input.
The picture quality on ALIEN and ALIENS is truly amazing!
FOX did a suberb job on restoring these films, especially ALIENS from 1986 which we all know did suffer of filmgrain and bad color transfer...this new version looks almost brand new compared to the DVD releases...
@abitic7 Do you have the U.S. or the U.K. release? I bought the UK version for its packaging and I did watch Aliens and have to say it was pretty bad. Some scenes were worst than its DVD counterparts and grain was still a problem. From all the reviews, I thought this was going to be a home run, but was I mistaken. Maybe it is just the UK version, let me know.
How was it overall DVDTown? I am a hige fan of the franchise and I purchased the Alien Quadrilogy Disc Set that came out on DVD a few years back but I am on the fence in terms of upgrading. I heard there was some additional content included but if anything, its nice to see they put in some effort in terms of packaging. That is my biggest complaint with most Blu Ray releases.
Very enjoyable unboxing. Using Aliens music was awesome. How were you able to sort of lube the interior of the outer box so the book would slide out so easily? I own it and mine is tight as shit. I have to shake the hell out of it to get the book out each time. I don't care really but yours seems, well , in the words of someone else prime mint?
I actually prefer the UK packaging. I mean, the idea for the sleeve packaging is NICE. But, they seem to want viewers to ruin something. I mean, you can accidentally tear the packaging up and possibly screw up your discs at the same time.
They did a much better job of sleeve packaging in the Avatar: Collector's Set and that was beautiful.
@Ze0do0Gas In a year most likely. Most boxsets split after that. You might get Alien sooner but the other 3 won't come out separate for awhile. Kind of like what they did with Batman.
Before I brought multi-region DVD player I owned the quad box set and single region2 DVD. The quad box was shameless for Alien. However Aliens theatrical was played the most! Alien3 and Resurrection hardly played, thou they did get multiple plays as single DVD. I was only after the theatrical version of Aliens which wasn’t on single DVD R2.
The Dolby stereo film mix has been re-mixed tamped with on Alien, by folding the centre left/right phantom, onto the centre discrete SIGH not how it suppose to be!
It’s the same version as quad box so no thanks I prefer Alien in full discreetness along the LCR the surrounds didn’t have any alteration with faked stereo surround. Studios have often used second edition or third edition special editions for DVD to be used for bluray and I’ve just about had enough it.
And besides its not true film grain we’re really looking at its mostly video texture its pure film base which gets a rough ride going though the projector as dirt gets stuck to the print and scratches that can be associated with film but not video. It’s only done to the best I can be and the screen captures of Alien is appalling on bluray. Save your money and find a cinema that’s showing it in 70mm there are plenty of cinemas that still show 70mm.
@EmpireLS56KW Screen captures.... you're judging the entire quality of this set on still screen captures. Why not just see the set for yourself in it's true form when it's in motion? You can't simply look at one screen capture and say that is that because that only constitutes one frame from the whole film that's supposed to be seen in motion!
@Kalaida Once bitten twice shy. I don’t think I’ll be spending any money on this! I wouldn’t even shoplift it to own it. Screen captures tell the story and I needn’t waste my time going out or even ordering it online.
@EmpireLS56KW What are you afraid of anyways? Does it bother you that the directors involved with the first two movies were directly involved in the restoration/transfer process of both their movies? Have you seen the digital bits review? They still retain a very film look to them and the original color timing for ALIEN when Brett goes looking for Jones has finally been restored. What is your deal?
Thanks! I have been looking all over for images of what the box set looks like. This is the best video because it is simple, to the point, and efficient. I'm not to keen on sleeves for disks, but Blu-rays are pretty resilient. I'm looking forward to getting my copy. Thanks again!
"EmpireLS56KW are you a fucking spastik i checked out dvdbeaver, the first three screen caps are from DVD THE LASST ONE IS BLURAY THE BLU RAY IS OBVIOUSLY BETTER! Get your facts staright ebfor yo talk you fuckign retarded motherfucker!"
No your the blind fucking cunt with your sad fucking bluray MOUTHERFUCKER! Get your facts straight FIRST!
I’ve just seen the screen captures on DVDbeaver site of Alien and all I can say is bluray EPIC FAIL! The scope is cropped on the sides like from a previous DVD edition! Do yourself a favour and buy the first edition region1 in all its scope entirety. Bluray is nothing more than a con waste of time HD format! And yes I do happen to own a bluray player! I haven’t brought a bluray disc in 8 months now because…once bitten twice shy! Its waste of time!
@EmpireLS56KW are you a fucking spastik i checked out dvdbeaver, the first three screen caps are from DVD THE LASST ONE IS BLURAY THE BLU RAY IS OBVIOUSLY BETTER! Get your facts staright ebfor yo talk you fuckign retarded motherfucker!
@deepsabbathfanatic I’d sooner have DVD with artefacts to sink a load of battleships rather than an overrated HD format with cropped off image on the scope 2.35:1 the first edition of Alien region1 is the one to see its fullness. Bluray is overrated and hasn’t lived to the hype and I don’t care if it’s the studio now that botched it up! They should know better as films is their business but not for bluray! Sorry no, I’ll keep the region1 DVD.
But I still don't understand how exactly the actual BDs can be removed from the sleeves without buckling / bending / flexing the "pages" at least a little (I'm afraid this will damage the packaging in time.).
