ive watched this almost 5 times a day for the past week thanks to this video i have an idea on what styles of wudang xiao yao , baguaquan, and baguazang now i just have to figure out how i can get to the masters of wudang mountain from the US or to your school in berlin. thank you for this demonstration
I have taken Yang Style Tai Chi, even though those movements are slow, all of the details are being done faster than describable. That lack of knowledge about how many details are involved, does create the illusion of a slow practice.
You have to learn a slow form (yi lu) in chen style too, before you start the fast form, because at first you have to learn softness and rooting.
There's also a fast form in yang style, with fajing, but usually it's not taught, if the teacher wants to emphasise the health-caring aspects of taiji.
What you say got no sense. When you practice Tai Chi, first you have to go slowly with the moves in way to feel all your body and get the right moves. And yes, it has a health-caring aspect. But when you got into a superior level, you have to go more faster. The FaJin is in every the internal martial art.
I said the same, maybe I couldn't express myself well. :) So as far as I know, it doesn't matter which style of taijiquan do you do, you have learn the slow form first. And yes, there's fajin in every internal martial art. The thing is just that there are many associations, which don't teach Yang taiji as a martial art, but as a "simple" moving qigong so they don't teach fajin.
"the takdown defense would not be effective against a commited wrestler"
on this point u r right i think... i tried a couple of defense against freetime-wrestlers, it worked, but with pro-wrestlers i thing no way. Thanks for ur comment.
That was excellent congratulations to you both and to whoever taught you, it has been a pleasure to watch such dedicated students, it would be a learning experience to train with you, and we all have more to learn. Best wishes. sameolblues
i'm no expert but judging from your forms and body kinetics, they're equivalent to masters with 50 yrs under their belt....and u guys don't look anything close to that...so great job guys..really impressed!
I wish I knew of a school that taught Wudang skills in the states. I'm a student of a Shaolin school right now but I think certain aspects of the internal arts would help with my balance(I was born with a slight physical challenge)
ufc and stuff are sports. because its more of an edurance thing. Has anybody really been in a fight which lasted more than 10 seconds?(hockey not included) but this stuff from wudang is a god performance. it's actually showed in musicals in modern china now. real kungfu is not in form. and definately not in this video. though hand pushing is good practise
MMA is modern sport of mixed martial arts shows. Martial Arts is traditional martial arts, self-defense and street defense ancient China, Japan, Korea in police force.
Also since this is a wudang video I'll use an internal example, I used to think like a great many other youths(was a teen at the time) that Tai Chi was an art only the elderly did and was for exercise only, till my first teacher OWNED me with that very form of martial art. Just because things arent as obvious as MMA doesnt mean they dont work. Trust me, have the scars to prove it
only because they didnt train in how to use it properly, you obviously havent heard of the Chen family and I dont mean the fighting style. A brother and sister whose primary fighting style is yang tai chi, and trust me it works.
you would be very surprised by the differences in a techinque in form and application. In my experience some schools hide martial techniques true application and teach only the training version till the student is ready to learn the true way of using it, for example a great many tiger movements are done tighter in application than in form practice.
Youlihan, I always have this question: why we never see these kind of moves in a real fight or mma? Would it be because it can't be applied when fighting in normal speed? Anyway, it's a great art, at least it looks good on stage or movies.
Dont know what mma is... but for one thing in real fights , well not alot of people learn or have even heard of this style, like ... you'd never see a xialon monk in the back of a gangster alley picking street fights
Hi we CANT see those moves on "mma-championships" cause those qinna moves where developed NOT against "skilled" fighters, but against attackers on streets who really just know how to hit but nothing else.
If we talk about "fighters" there r manny other ways of Wudang Pai such as "Wudang-SanShou" similar to these days "SANDA". Soon or later i think we will see also Wudang-SanShou on championships etc. I`m sure, NO "Monks" will join the fights, but other mma-fighters who will adapt and take up effective wudang-sanshou moves and tactics.
Hi Youlihan, Thank you. Do you know why many Chinese fighting styles emphasize so much on forms? Do you think practicing forms is useful? If so, why many practical martial arts do even have forms?
...and ALL Freefighters r practicing "Forms". Every punching/boxing-combination, every Kicking-combination, every grappling-combination is a "form" in one way. The forms r less fixed then traditional, but they r forms. And every traditional "Fighter" who practicing trad. forms, is also using the form this, or that way..
Forms r just combinations of movements which u can find in common Boxing, Kickboxing, Muai Thai, MMA, where ever... everywhere. Just "western" traditionalists r taking the forms TOO seriously and TOO fixed, thats the why those forms cant match modern fighters practices.
It depends on what style of taiji (another way to spell tai chi), but many were lost over time.
Much has been "recreated", but to know what is ancient knowledge and what is just "made up" recently, is hard to know. The spreading of taiji has sometimes lessened the quality, but sword and spear and fan forms, as well as animal forms, has as far as anyone knows always been a part of taiji.
nice form!i totaly understand taiji but tell me can you fight? not a insult just a question. i know many who look like that but they cant apply it,just wondering...i trained with a real good taiji fighter he says the form is only a map to the good stuff! if you get a chance i found someone like my master "watch the clip from heavenmanearth taiji secret seminar, totally the real deal!!!
I had the same problem, but look at what they're doing over and over... WRIST GRABS. If you watch it enough, you can see how to perform one, and how to counter one (with a nice Tai Chi PUSH!)
There are several elements of Tai Chi I don't like, but I would love to spar against it (sword and unarmed).
It's one of the arts I've learned to recognize from watching.
It is true, most chinese take advantage of foreigners big time. And they still teach them rubbish (for example, modern wushu "shaolin forms" with robes and everything). Lots of wudang schools teach nothing more than wushu too..
great video guys, I liked it a lot. I'm planning a trip to China this year to learn wudang gong fu, and would like to know who was your master, just to consider one more option, while I'm still looking for one that could teach real wudang gong fu.
Hi, my teacher at mount wudang was and is Master Tang Li Long and his teacher You Xuan De. But Master Tang will be at mount Wudang only during the spring/sommer time since he is building up the teachers at GuangZhou(south) right now. If there is any interests, u can send me a msg. peace
actually I know some nice ppl there. Most locals there can't be bothered to learn...they think its alot of crap anyways...its not the monks/teachers fault they're so greedy...if I see some foreigner willing to give me cash to learn crap I'll probably do the same lol
you guys must be rich. the chinese wushu comes at a very high price and they still laugh behind your backs. i'm ethnic chinese i know what they say about us foreigners when we don't look. you didn't have it today and it won't matter about tomorrow. real wushu isn't in form
u sound really pissed man... what happened? During the 6 years practicing and living in China i didnt pay even half as i pay here in Germany in 6 years just for LIVING! And my chinese is as good as i can understand what they r talkin... i listened often the things what u r telling here BUT NEVER from any teacher at mount wudang brother... so cause u couldnt find a right teacher, dont means all the foreigners wont! do u have any questions, write me a msg. peace
well i never bothered to continue after they told me how much they wanted. i don't like their attitude thats all. I was there for holiday. But they are spiteful to foreigners and make a joke of people who train, behind their backs. the guy at the field every morning with long hair told me quote ' see these foreigners coming we charge them so much, but they still come. idiots making me rich 'utterly greedy bunch.even the so called priest like change their words.and i speak chinese all my life.
Really exellent clip! Truly enjoyable performance! Thanks a lot and many congratulations!!! I have a question for you: Is the first form that you are doing simultaniously with your training partner (00:00-01:09) is a type of Taiji Quan? Maybe a special Wudang Taiji Quan fast form? Because I could recognize elements of Bagua Zhang, Xingyi Quan, Baji Quan and Qin Na in the LATER PARTS of the clip, but have no idea about the very first form.
Selam, the first form is called "TAI YI XIAOYAO ZHANG". The meaning is "Released Palm" or "Free Palm" of Master TAI YI from Wudang Shan. It includes principles of most these days known internal arts such like XingYi/BaGua/BaJi/TaiJi and Sitting Meditation(wich is not shown on this clip). Greet u.
studying form is realy good but can apparently cost you a lot... Standing like a tree is better and cost you nothing... Don't put to much forms in ya mind... But do the tree as much as u can, that's real internal for sure!
The Attacker moves... our dantian moves and something happens... thats it all about. And for a clip like this we must give some examples for better understanding of "SOFT". Anyway, from videos one cant see exactly what is really going on INSIDE a HUMAN. Greet u.
I say: Those applications r changing natrally with every new attack, every new moment, with every new situation, they r NOT fixed applications, today i show this and tomorrow i react for the SAME ATTACK totally different, cause i am NOT "thinking" what i am gonna do, those r natural moves which we r not preparing for the attack.
And THIS is sad part of the Art FOR ME! To understand, that IMA is for knowing self and so on... is NOT taking long time is my meaning.... look out and u will see that almost EVERY IMA Practitioner is talkin about this... BUT to know, that u can USE this IMA for "protecting" UR HEALTH against ANYTHING/ANYBODY, not only building up the health, THIS IS TAKING TOOO LONG TIME TO UNDERSTAND for people who not involved to the IMA deeply.
Internal art is less abt external techniques and applications but more about internal understanding, chi and jin (internal strength). Unlike Karate, Muay thai etc internal arts do not have fixed applications. Its about knowing self and blending in with your opponent, defeating his strength, power and speed. Techniques and applications are merely a bi-products of internal skills. Takes long time to understand this.
this is what I am talkin about too, but don`t forget: WUDANG PAI is(it was allways and it will be) an INTERNAL "M-A-R-T-I-A-L" Arts!!! And this is what the most practitioners forget all the time... just because they didnt learn to handle a ThaiBoxer, or a Streetfighter, they r thinking that this is impossible with Internal MA and just talkin about the Health and Peace Side of Internal MA.
Chinese martial arts (CMA) lacks the structure of Japanese and Korean martial arts. However with CMA, it is about how much you can digest and how much you can invest in your art. You can spend years and lot learn very little. But good masters have come from short years of learning. CMA, unlike Karate et al, are not Black Belt factories. Colour of belt mean little in a real fight, it is about what you know and how you use it.
These are all very good. Both as forms and applications. Nowadays all in Chinese martial arts community everybody is showing form but no apps. Especially at internal systems. These guys are strong both in these two part and they are doing internal systems. I think many internal system performers can take them as an example. Thanks for posting. Waiting for others !
That's because a lot of people are not taking martial arts seriously. But good instructors are out there and you have to find one that teaches the things that you want to learn.
Thank you for your comment my friend.I am thinking problems are not only about to find a good theacher. Also Chinese Martial Arts has a structional problem about theory and practique. Many very good teacher is not sure about meaning of the tecnique. This is the reason why these guys are special. They are fluid about the form and they have different approach about application. Even at least one of them is very young. Thats why I said many internal guy can try to think like them.
Yeah! Bin erster Kommentator. Euer Wudang Pai sieht wirklich sehr gut aus...zum neidisch werden! Aber in den Formen am Anfang sieht man schoen das Wudang pai halt nicht nur Taiji ist. Kompliment!

Kompliment!
