"And George supported him the rest of his life." "You can put me down now, George." The great Coal routine from "Dear Friends", probably my fav album from the Joes.
First heard them just before I went to VIetnam in 71, been hooked ever since. Like noclouds, I could recite it all. I've been looking for an audio on the musical part of Waiting for the Electrician....that bluesy thing with the "I'm gone eat right through this microphone till I find you! Where am I Walter? Can you hear me, you ol' sprighead?!"
@Odhinn222 Allright, man. Thanks for your comment. I agree with your assessment: The FT are all geniuses.
I also have bits from their albums memorized. My favorite album, I think, is 'Everything You Know is Wrong.' ("This is Nino Savate coming to you with this psychic minute!") But I love all of their stuff. I first learned about them with 'Don't Crush That Dwarf ... " ("It's really GREAT shit, Mrs. Presky!")
Anyway, they're playing in L.A. again this month. Cheers.
I recall being able to recite entire albums from my four heroes. It's still a bright spot in my life and connected to many pleasant memories in the company of good friends.
Letterman, I think, has drifted away from the days of the fringe guests he had on his show in the 80s. Or maybe it's the culture that's drifted away? Dunno.
I got to tell ya, I got chills watching this video. I've also been a fan of theirs from 70 or so... I've seen them live quite a few times. I've listened to them so much that I would recognize their voices in a crowded room from 50 feet away. Love ya Firesign Theatre!
People have uploaded a lot of Firesign Theater to YouTube.
A good one to start with is titled 'Temporary Humbolt County' (poster benjim1969). It's a capsule version of the history of America from their very first album.
Also, look for Nick Danger videos (poster graybeard1952). Very funny.
The Firesign Theater started in radio, so it's best, in my opinion, to listen them with the lights off, but you don't have to.
Also, unlike many comics today, they're very smart dudes.
Thanks for sharing this. They look great, and I'm glad they still hang together and they're doing some live shows. I saw them perform live in 1974 in Princeton, NJ, and I would def go see them if they went on tour where I am (NYC area).
Maybe you should start a writing campaign with other East Coast Firesign fans to get them to do some East Coast shows. I think it was on Phil Austin's blog where I read that the guys are reticent to tour on the East Coast due to the cost involved. But maybe you can change their collective mind.
I also went to the last show at the Barnsdall (Saturday 17th Oct) and took more post-show video. Once I get it edited, I'll post it. Keep an eye out.
Nice souvenir! For $3.00 a month you can continue to support Peter Bergman's 'Radio Free Oz' online podcasts 5 days a week. He's sharp as a razor.

@DaHonestAbe And exactly how did you feel when meeting Michael Parenti and Tim Wise?
Uhhh ... Clem.
