@accepted3 , youre not supposed to use plexiglass. thats extremely dangerous and it will shatter with pressure. you should use FIBERGLASS, which is what a lot of professional monofins are made out of. its flexible but strong, and wont break as easily.
It actually wasn't designed to swim in. I bought cheap material just to practice with before I worked on the actual tail. I'm not too comfortable with sewing, etc, so didn't want to buy expensive material and mess it up.
NEVER use plexiglass! It will break with any pressure and if you are using it in the water when it breaks you could possibly cut yourself. Never ever ever use plexiglass to make a monofin!
There have been other people that have used it, but i think it depends on the flexibility and thickness..but ya, i have no plans on making my own for now.
Hey, I was wondering. What is the diffrence between a dry fin and a wet fin? Yes I'm new at this, and I have never created one before. So I'm just wondering what the diffrence is. I would appreciate the help!
Hey I'm confused, first you trace a monofin shape onto a board of plexiglas, and then you glue flippers to it? Does that work when swimming? If so that's great I should so make one!
What I did to make that more fluke mermaid look, is that I used the top of a starilite container. So then it's more bendable for when u swim and it gives u more propoortion (idk If I spelled that right) so yah! And I didn't use a monofin. I used to swim fins
there is a cheap option to becoming a mermaid, get some spandex trousers and slide both legs into one leg of the trousers, a pair of fins or monofin on and your done
Plexiglass is very delicate and will break with the resistance of the water and there is a possibility of cutting yourself. I highly do not recommend using plexiglass!
Apparently there are monofins made with plexiglass, although I'm not exactly sure at this point what they are re-enforced with, unless it's the rubber cover that helps.
I've had the same idea for making a custom monofin but have not been brave enough to give it a try. I've heard people have had success by attaching aqua shoes (usually made of a neoprene like material) using liquid nails. You may have more luck finding those than cutting up swim fins.
I hope you try again as all of us are eager to see the outcome!
That's kind of cool! Looks very nice lol wonder if you can acutally swim in one of those.. heard it makes it easier for swimmers just like webbed feet do immitating a duck's foot
This one sadly I can't use in the water, but I have plans on making one using spandex swimwear material.
I chose cheaper material for the first time around while I learned how to make them.
The monofin should hopefully be workable once I find the correct shoes or feet to put on it. Been hunting around for swimming fins but haven't had any luck yet.
i never do this!!!!!

If you make your own, you can. I'm not sure how well it would work to cut an already made monofin.

kanariaisha 1 year ago
@kanariaisha
Since the fin I was making broke, I'm hoping to purchase an actual monofin from finis.

It does from what I hear, but you need to get a plexiglass that won't break very easily.

I'm probably going to use liquid nails to stick some Crocs onto a piece of plastic shaped like a fin.

We actually thought of using aqua shoes, or a good set of swimming fins cut to fit. Hopefully when we get some extra money we can try again:)
