  • 99% of the people that Would buy the Alesis Video track Would not use it in this way! Fill a room with smoke and it wont matter what Camera you have, They all would suck! You stuck the recorder right in front of the Load speaker with "NO" distortion at all at full Volume !

And I bought the same recorder on Amozon for $44 bucks, Dam Dude ! You could have bought 4 of them for what you paid, LOL

  • @crazyaxe48 agree 100% with what you had to say there crazyaxe. At the time of the video it was fresh off the shelves. I prob still wouldnt buy it now if it was 40 bucks based on the fact its not only NOT hd - but 640x480 max. I was running that res on my first laptop in 1994

  • lol good sound of the barking dog (Y)

  • I picked mine up for just over 50 UK pounds, I think its pretty good for that!

The video isnt great but audio wise i havnt got a bad thing to say about it. Shame the video isnt that crash hot! Ah well!

  • oh please, why everyone is complaining about low res? So what, that now minicameras have 1280x800 if quality is as bad as here? Without good light, without good cam - resolution gives you nothing. I've interested in small sport cam recorder and belive - you wouldn't get better video in that surcomstances. And audio quality is very good. And it's cost 35$ in USA...

  • it is on bhphtopovideo for 40 dollars so it would be worth it for that.

  • @specialfxmaker id buy it for 40 if you were not really interested in HD video sure!

  • I bought the thing in 2010 and recorded a few band rehearsals with it , the that sound was ok, but why didn't they just leave it at that and add some good features for audio recording? I took the thing to Florida and did some recording at seaworld that was less than favorable. I bought the unit through Guitar Center online. I pulled it out today ,because we are finally ready to record rehearsals again and tit started driving me crazy again. I called guitar Cntr, they said bring it to a store.

  • THIS THING IS A PEICE OF SHIT RIP OFF Overpriced and I have taken better videos with my 3g Droid and my Kodak digital camera

Alesis has really soiled their good name with this thing. I realize that that the sound recording on it is pretty good, but the video is terrible. Grainy out of sync.with the sound and the color recreation is not accurate, The controls on it are less than basic. It doesn't link well with my Mac Book . It really is like a toy. I wish i looked at a few reviews before buying

  • @James91LP agree 100% I got this the day it was released and was pretty upset with my purchase about 3-4 days of owning it. Looking to pick up a q3hd now.

  • does the Alesis Video Track attach to a tripod via a screw?

  • can I record only audio with this ?

  • I like the sound quality and the fact that it doesn't seem to clip.

  • Thanks for the vid man. Great sound quality. I just picked one up on ebay for $100.00 new. I hope I can get good results like you have, thanks again..

  • @rockcrazyclear Return it ! go to Amozon $44 USA Bucks, After I bought mine I have seen them as cheap as $30 online.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, just for reference, it's now down to 150 bucks at musiciansfriend. If I wasn't really interested in shooting through fog, black lights, and, instead, usually decent lighting and I'm not totally interested in visual quality and more live audio, would this be a good buy?

  • @PeetaPettigrew $44 Amozon.com

  • !!ZOOM Q3 HD!! wake up.

  • @morgando2 absolutely man - i have been directing anyone watching this video to that camera, as this alesis is a effen peice of crap.

  • @Nygel36 , but it costs less than half

  • i think the video is ok considering you got it in a room full of fucking fog

  • @BANGERS68 depends on what you compare it to. MY flip HD camera picks it + lasers up GREAT, not all washed out and dull.

  • @Nygel36 , ah ah, well said

  • Got mine in a raffle, and I use it to record my guitar practice. I can pick up and correct mistakes real fast that way. I consider the video and still capabilities as extras. The VideoTrack is a bit easier for me to use for visuals than my cell phone, but roughly the same quality of image output. For my purposes the sound is fine.

    Thanks for making this demo!

  • For $189 that thing sounds amazing!

  • Thanks for this review. I was thinking about buying one to record my bands gigs but not now. You would think that the big video camera makers would respond to this market and make a decent camera with mics that can cope with live sound rather than leave it to the music people like Alesis and Zoom to botch it up .

  • @andybltt they have! its called the q3HD - look it up, gonna get that one next and review for everyone.

  • OK... thanks for the review. I'm not sure what you did to get any kind of usable audio out of this thing, but I've not had any luck with this thing's audio at all. I purchased one of these about two weeks ago and so far I am VERY disappointed with both the audio and the out-of-sync, "blocky" video. Regardless of the audio sensitivity setting (Hi, Med, Lo), all I get out of this thing is clicks and buzzes. Alesis, you FLUNK this time! This is a CRUMMY, CHEAP product! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

  • arg you kidding me my mom got this for me for christmas and she is letting me use it to record an auditon in which I need to sing in I just turned it on and I'm not impressed with the the way things look through the lense I haven't listened to the sound because I can't figure it out >.<

  • do you have a fog machine on in the room....the footage looks hazy or something....im not impressed with this video recorder but i like the audio....thanks for the demo

  • @jamesplasencia yes, the room was filled wih fog to see how it picked up club lighting (such as lasers)

  • When I record the audio has a weird buzzing or fuzzing sound.. is that normal? if not what should i do? I checked the audio on the alesis videotrack & when I imported the mp4 file.. I can still hear it..

  • @MrMightyMusic best advice is to throw this peice of shit away - your mics are possibly screwed up, i dunno.. since i got this thing its been nothing but problems and a total waste of money. Their support sucks ass too, so dont even bother trying. The best solution the guy could come up with as to why my SD card corrupted with 2 gigs of video lost was to try a new usb cable lmao. Sorry but you are probably SOL

  • Thank you for taking the time to post this demo. Thanks.

    : )

  • Good Review! After watching your review I bought it just for the sound when working out new songs. You indicate that I can set it for audio only. How?

  • Heres all you need to know in my opinion...Guitar Certer is already dropping the price on these for black friday to $80!!! and Im gonna take a pass! Bought this for $180 a month ago and returned it. Video quality is garbage and seemed to lag behind the audio which is BAD when recording a live band. Gonna check out the Q3 for sure

  • @arnie1267 ***Guitar Center***

  • @arnie1267 i just got back from tour and the SD card was corrupt when i plugged into my comp to take it all off - lost 2 gigs of primo footage from this piece of shit. To anyone reading this, DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA, worst purchase I have ever made, ever.

  • @Nygel36

Ditto.....my experience has been similar. It sounds like shit and now is froze up. I haven't tried to contact anyone yet, but I'm am one pissed off hippie.

  • This video camera has the same problem as the Samson video recorder. Both companies decided to make a video recorder with a nice microphone. They for some reason made their camera's to be able to shoot VGA quality video not HD Video. This camera really needs to be able to shoot at least 720P to even be a good camera. Being able to shoot video with high quality audio is not going to make up for the fact your video is only VGA Quality. Not HD Quality.

  • can you record just audio on this if you want? would you recommend it for recording audio on its own or would you recommend something that doesnt record video aswell?

  • What format does it record files in? MOV? AVI? Etc?

  • @InternetSpanker 640x480 .MPEG4 - 30fps

  • @Nygel36 - Thanks! - I bought the Zoom Q3 Handy Recorder (basically the same thing) but it uses MOV files which are a hassle to work with especially within Windows. I would imagine it to be a big time saver using the Alesis. The Q3 has good bass response and provides a low cut filter...but those MOV files are a real source of frustration...finally found a good free converter, but it takes just as long to convert it as the file is in length.

  • @InternetSpanker id be very interested to see how the audio of the q3sounds at HIGH VOLUME environments as im gonna dump the alesis after a tour and pick up the q3HD! It seems to have EVERYTHING im looking for - stereo condensor mics, true HD vid, lots of I/O, etc. You mind doing a similar product review such as mine so i can hear how the audio is? Much appreciated!

  • @Nygel36 - The audio auto-level function works very well at high volumes and still captures the meaty bass. It sells for $100 less than the HD version, which I didn't know existed until you mentioned it! - You can find many clips & demos on YouTube and Zoom's site. - The one main problem I see with the auto-level is that when you first turn it on it is set an mid/high level (normal) so when you hit a loud snare crack it "sets" it lower and it does not come back up until the next clip is recorded

  • @Nygel36 - what ends up happening is if you are showing drum or loug guitar/band videos, when you stop and talk in a normal voice, the level is now too low to be heard intelligable. - The 2x digital zoom is better than nothing, but the slogan is:"A little bit of video & a whole lot of audio." - It's great for having at the ready for recording quick ideas and the sound is terrific, but once again, .MOV files get out-of-sync audio/video easily and "cumbersome" to work with. Large files 35MB/min.

  • @Nygel36 - One last thing(s)... you can't adjust the video settings. It is stuck at 640x480, but you can adjust the audio settings, 48, 44.1 PCM, MP3 320 and down. You can also just record audio only and save memory space. - I will have to be happy with my piddly 640x480 for a while! Enjoy the HD...buy it, and if you hate it...send it back. They are light and small!

  • THANKS FOR THE REVIEW,I JUST ORDERED ONE TODAY ONLINE,AND I THINK THE AUDIO IS EXCELLENT,AND THE VIDEO QUALITY,IS BETTER THAN MY CRAPPY WEB CAM..AND ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR MY PURPOSES,FOR AMATURE MUSIC VIDS ON YOU TUBE.,MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS IT WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PRODUCT FOR MY USE IF IT HAD A STEREO LINE IN,..FOR MY COMPLETED MULTI TRACK AUDIO RECORDINGS...BUT FOR $180.00 I DONT THINK ANYONE SHOULD COMPLAIN WHEN THE AUDIO QUALITY IS SO GOOD..I HATE U TUBE VIDS WITH CRAPPY AUDIO !

  • did you have the bass? up cuz if so to me it didnt sound like it picked that up much

  • @Meza402 I had the bass up soo much that the neighbors came over to complain, just from the 40+ seconds there that I had it on. To me, it sounded great on the video based on what was playing. Most cameras wont even process the signals and just record nothing but static mush that is all garbeled up (look at just about ANY concert video out there filmed from a cell phone)

  • lol, all i see is light

  • Audio is amazing video not that good. I think since my focus is audio I would be interested in this

  • @robm425 id pick up the samson zoom Q3HD if price is not an issue for you.

  • lol at your dog

  • @YousYruLeR he was actually barking at my neighbors at the door, who came to complain about the volume haha... notice the split in the video? :)

  • @Nygel36 lol ye

  • whats this song at 6:12 its brillant :O love the video

  • @Nathooo11 Dj Tonio - Up and Down (Original Mix)

  • Amazing quality! I really like it.

  • Sound is really nice on it! Picture is ok, kinda fuzzy.... but picked up the lazer's ok....

  • @JackDooner compared to my FLIP HD cam the lasers are dull and washed out. They are vibrant and lively on the other unit, so im calling it a fail overall still :(

  • @Nygel36 Damn! :( Hey maybe you can return it and get a refund? I would go with that :(

  • @JackDooner defiantly going to return it and get a Q3HD - google it :)
