@wess2310 if you leave out the tsuba you will have a gap and the handle would not be snug up against anything. You would be better to do like wess2310 said and get custom handle for it, or make blade into a shirasaya.
@Crystalbeastdude1 I am not trying to be difficult but rather trying to make a myth clear because people buy swords and think they can spar with them and then they get hurt or ruin the blade. Unless you are trained in the techniques of a strike, and defense, sword play can and will be very dangerous to people, and the blade.
@Crystalbeastdude1 Whether a blade be the highest quality tamahagane, or damascus steel, or forged by the absolute masters of all master forgers, a blade is, ans was not made to have direct contact with another blade. SOme could stand up to more contact than others. But all in all, sword wielders did what ever they could during a sword fight to stop direct contact to the blade as well as themselves. If their blade was damaged, then what good were they?
@Crystalbeastdude1 No this is not a folded sword. Most likely a folded sword would easily damage this blade yes, however, swords are not actually meant to hit one another. Blades are designed for flesh and bone. Thus why after wars and battles the blades were usually stock piled, melted down and then re-forged.
@funnybunnystorm101 we deal direct with manufacturers from USA, China, Japan, Korea, and Thailand. Our store is strictly an online store until we decide to expand and open a store front.
Like the only reason why I would want one is if a zombie horde started attacking everyone at least I would be able to defend myself and not run out of ammo.
2.
Why isn't the katana premade and was is it in a plastic looking holder like common I want my katana to make me look like im a ninja not a halloween character.
3. Is there an instruction book that comes with the sword teaching me how to deflect bullets and stuff?
@Gam3rsMedia answer to question 1: People have a great appreciation for the Japanese culture and their way of life. People like to have a piece of that culture and show their appreciation for it.
Question 2: Lower end katanas are made on a large scale basis however still require a lot of detail. The scabbards are wood. Blades are made from carbon steel so definitely not halloween character quality when they are a real live blade.
@snickers763 Katanas are made of carbon steel thus why we have to oil and maintain regularly. Stainless steel wall hangers have a hollow center and thus cannot be sharpened. So yes you are correct in a way that a blade that is not made of good ol' iron and steel is just not the same is it?
@SamuraiSupply i know that but my point is a weapon that rusts without maintaining is usually good... if you maintain it point is carbon steel iron and even titanium...if you have the money is good, wall decorations and movie props..... 440 stainless why you need combat ready is your own reson but their better
@brianthao102 These swords are actually quite a decent cutter. In my opinion and experience i do not think it would be wise to try cut a pig body with this blade. There are others that I would recommend with that. In fact, we cut the head off of a 250lb wild hog with the Paul Chen Raptor Unokobi Zukuri!
@teatshanglow426 it is a functional katana. Anything that is carbon steel is a live blade. Stainless steel blades are just a replica and typically have a hollow center.
@circutwolf If the end cap came off you will need to make sure that the tsukao ito has not untied and re tie it under the kashira. On lower end katana I have taken the kashira off and glued it on.
@SamuraiSupply ok thanks my son really wants one so im starting him off on this one i might get him the folded steel ones the really good ones . no worries because im supervising him hes 16 though
I am considering to purchase the Wave Katana from you. But i was just wondering what the tsuka ito wrapping is and what the tsuba is made of. I don't want to purchase a cheap made Katana and have shit fall apart. But if it's quality stuff i will be more then happy to get it from you.
@xINVISIGOTHx Removing rust is a delicate and time consuming issue. It depends first on how bad the rust actually is. You may want to try a product calle Metal-Glo first. If that does not work, you may need to use a steel wool to get rid of rust, then you will need to re-polish blade and perhaps even sharpen it afterwards.
@xINVISIGOTHx all carbon steel katana's will rust over time, you have to clean and maintain them regularly. you can find katana cleaning kits, with some swords the cleaning kit comes with it. i hope yours didnt rust too badly.
@xINVISIGOTHx bro do not i repeat do not use steel wool on your blades is a cheap 100$ blade meaning is it a authentic japanese blade or one of these samurai supply blade . if your is the real thing check out a confirmed web site on how to maintain your blades or take to a restorer using steel wool on a authentic samurai sword will drop its value and damage it sometimes irreparable.
@Danglesboy1 Not sure if you are implying that Samurai Supplies blades are no good in your statement but the info I gave regarding steel wool is for a low end blade as I believe that is what piplup10203854 was intending. If was a fully folded, laminated or high end blade period I would not suggest anything like that at all and would refer him to one of our sword restorers. With a $100 blade it is ok to learn how to polish and sharpen and what not. That way when you know how to maintain properly.
@11gugler11 Buy a cleaning kit, it doesn't come with huge prices and it usually found on sites who sell Katana's or retails in your country. It contains a powderball and oil. (Or supposed to) a manual is included on how to treat the Katana with it.
@11gugler11 Preventative maintenance! Oil the blade before use and after use, and at least once a month. Also, you can try using a 10W 30 Synthetic oil instead of Choji oil. Mobil, Exxon etc. etc., have spent millions developing oil that protects steel. Motor oil works awesome!
@arun9986161113 In England, you have to get a special katana collecting permit to buy a sword nowadays. I am not sure of anywhere else. In America, you do not need one, however.
@klekt True. Not suppossed to touch the blade. Please forgive me. I did however have a rag on blade and did not touch with bare hands. But yes this is important for several reasons. The oil in our hands can affect the steel and cause rust spots.
@airbus001 While the tang does not go to the end of the handle, for a well-constructed katana, it would be fine. But this being a Masahiro, well....... They are more for display anyways.
is this a real Katana cause i bought a katana before and the blade was cheaper than my kitchen knife. i love how this one looks in the vid and the assembly of this fine sword!!
@Goyabeans12 This sword is fully functional. The hamon is fake, and this is not the highest qulaity sword, but is a great deal for the price and is a great cutter to have fun with!
$30 - $80 would only get you a cheap stainless steel wallhanger sword. If your lucky you might find a functional katana but don't expect it to be of high quality.
@DarkChaoto Somewhat correct. Musashi has a couple at the $80 price range that are great little cutters!! But you do get what you pay for with swords and you cannot expect too much from one under $100 bucks!
@SamuraiSupply I belive everything that is not a real tamahagane a fake sword only for back yard cutting bottles and may be some heavy cutting with a sword about 200-300$ at least
@QuantumQuacks If this video was of a claymore, or a scimitar, or a venetian cinquedea or doge then I would show it the proper respect, emotion, and honour they deserve. This video is about a katana, thus it is based around a katana and made for those who enjoy the tradition and culture that revolves around this sword.
PS. You might want to learn terminology of sword before you make fun of others.
@QuantumQuacks I understand what you are saying. The reason I did not use a rubber mallet was because I wanted to show that one could use exactly what came with kit and no more because not everyone has all the tools.
@LightingEMO i would agree with you if this was a high quality well made katana. This assemble yourself piece which is great, don't get me wrong, but is not exactly high quality. In an ideal world where it should be all precise, the low end swords will need a little medieval effort now and again. Tapping with a rubber mallet won't hurt it if you do it right, and don;t just go to town all construction worker style! Lol! if required you can wrap the end of tsuka with clth so as to protect it.
@SamuraiSupply hello i have a question if i buy this sword how much is tax i live in the U.S too. its a very nice sword and i want one like asap but i need to know how much tax or shipping would be.
@bboyloco3 Hi there - it depends what state you are in for taxes. You only pay taxes if you live in Texas as we are located in Texas. As for shipping, you can send us your address and we can give you an estimate, or you can go on our site and add the sword to the cart and then put in your address and it will calculate your shipping for you and you can see. You don't have to purchase it to get a shipping quote. You can also use the coupon code "member" for a 5% discount as well. Thanks!
@bboyloco3 You can sign up on homepage for membership and receive immediate coupon code, or enter the code- "member" at checkout and it will give you a discount.
uhh....that is not and is never going to be a Samurai sword. It is a toy. do you also have a 'Star Wars' light sabre????How about Hot wheels?? Great job with the little hammer...seemed like you hit the mark about 30% of the time.
Will you be my master? :D :D :D Okay...I'm done here.
@shoegooguru : must there always be a naysayer? No biggie. I was trying to show that you can assemble with exactly what came in the box and that you do not have to use special tools as not everyone has them. can't please everyone but we do our best and will always give great customer service.
@shoegooguru how in the F is that blade a toy?! and as far as blade geometry and fittings u are either dumb blind or have never actually seen or held a katana to say that that is not nor will be a samurai sword. you must be under the impression that a "real" sword costs way more....such a fool. in fact other than damascus steel a samurais swords metal comp. was often comparable to horse shit. so from a technical stand point this sword is much more real than the ones you even see in a museum.
@thomasemac This is in fact a full tang double pegged sword. This sword cuts surprisingly well. It is great for experimentation purposes and really getting to know a sword.
@stammchen Yeah the little brass hammer was awkward. However, I wanted to demonstrate that you can assemble tis katana with exactly what it comes with as not everyone has a lot of tools at their disposal.
We do not sell the 368 and I have googled it. I really can't even give you any input as no one I even deal with sells it so I can't get a really honest opinion. I am sorry I could not be of more help. If you have any questions about other swords on our site or another sword site, please feel free to email again and hopefully we can be of more help!
Take a look at our Hanwei Paul Chen swords and our Thaitsuki swords as they are both gorgeous and I am sure you can find something similar and something you really love. Be sure to use our coupon discount code "supply" for an extra 7% off as well - it's good until March 31st.
Depending on the sword and cutting experience the sword should stay sharp for quite some time. If a knick on the blade happens from a misdirected cut then by all means sharpen it, however most katana will cut well for quite some time. Even the low end assemble yourself sword stays well sharp after cutting. The one I have in my personal collection has never been re-sharpened and I have been cutting sago palm branches which is a very hard wood.
also very nice and thx for the assembly video i really needed that. ur the only one that has the masahiro assembly kit version on how to assemble it, thx
Check monthly for any signs of pitting if it is in storage and if used for tameshigiri it should be oiled right after use. It is recommended that the sword also be lightly oiled before any cutting exercises as it will help to cut better and protect blade. After cleaning and oiling, it is very important to ensure that the habaki is clean and dry of any oil as if there is residue it will absorb into the koiguchi of saya and could cause it to spread thereby making a loose fit on the sword.
Well to put it simply, the selling price for the cheap assemble yourself is almost cost, so adding a maintenance kit puts us at a loss. I would love to be able to do this though.
does it matter what side the tsuba goes on?

@QuantumQuacks I understand what you are saying. The reason I did not use a rubber mallet was because I wanted to show that one could use exactly what came with kit and no more because not everyone has all the tools.

ow much is this and how will i order?? i cant hear the audio.....
WARBOB1975 1 year ago
are u freaking kidding!
never use a rubber hammer to put on the tsuka
ur going to ruin it
the correct way its to SLIDE it on with gently care
then hold it straight up
and hit the bottom of tsuka WITH YOUR HANDS
the blade should slide in snuggly and make a perfect fit
LightingEMO 1 year ago
@LightingEMO i would agree with you if this was a high quality well made katana. This assemble yourself piece which is great, don't get me wrong, but is not exactly high quality. In an ideal world where it should be all precise, the low end swords will need a little medieval effort now and again. Tapping with a rubber mallet won't hurt it if you do it right, and don;t just go to town all construction worker style! Lol! if required you can wrap the end of tsuka with clth so as to protect it.

@SamuraiSupply hello i have a question if i buy this sword how much is tax i live in the U.S too. its a very nice sword and i want one like asap but i need to know how much tax or shipping would be.
bboyloco3 1 year ago
@bboyloco3 Hi there - it depends what state you are in for taxes. You only pay taxes if you live in Texas as we are located in Texas. As for shipping, you can send us your address and we can give you an estimate, or you can go on our site and add the sword to the cart and then put in your address and it will calculate your shipping for you and you can see. You don't have to purchase it to get a shipping quote. You can also use the coupon code "member" for a 5% discount as well. Thanks!
SamuraiSupply 1 year ago
@SamuraiSupply oh i do live in texas too and i when i tried the amount would be 122 dollars where can i get coupons?
bboyloco3 1 year ago
@bboyloco3 You can sign up on homepage for membership and receive immediate coupon code, or enter the code- "member" at checkout and it will give you a discount.

@bboyloco3 is the hamon roeal?
bboyloco3 1 year ago
@bboyloco3 on this sword and any sword typically below $100 you will find the hamon to be fake. It is wire brushed on this particular sword.

hi nice video wanna know how can i buy such a sword?
stockholm0074 1 year ago
uhh....that is not and is never going to be a Samurai sword. It is a toy. do you also have a 'Star Wars' light sabre????How about Hot wheels?? Great job with the little hammer...seemed like you hit the mark about 30% of the time.
Will you be my master? :D :D :D Okay...I'm done here.
shoegooguru 1 year ago
@shoegooguru : must there always be a naysayer? No biggie. I was trying to show that you can assemble with exactly what came in the box and that you do not have to use special tools as not everyone has them. can't please everyone but we do our best and will always give great customer service.
SamuraiSupply 1 year ago
@shoegooguru how in the F is that blade a toy?! and as far as blade geometry and fittings u are either dumb blind or have never actually seen or held a katana to say that that is not nor will be a samurai sword. you must be under the impression that a "real" sword costs way more....such a fool. in fact other than damascus steel a samurais swords metal comp. was often comparable to horse shit. so from a technical stand point this sword is much more real than the ones you even see in a museum.

@thomasemac This is in fact a full tang double pegged sword. This sword cuts surprisingly well. It is great for experimentation purposes and really getting to know a sword.

wish a wonderful day..
stammchen 2 years ago
@stammchen Yeah the little brass hammer was awkward. However, I wanted to demonstrate that you can assemble tis katana with exactly what it comes with as not everyone has a lot of tools at their disposal.

Basicly What Do You Think Of Number 368? Is It Worth The Money?
sull0112 2 years ago
We do not sell the 368 and I have googled it. I really can't even give you any input as no one I even deal with sells it so I can't get a really honest opinion. I am sorry I could not be of more help. If you have any questions about other swords on our site or another sword site, please feel free to email again and hopefully we can be of more help!

How About Sharpening If You Do Cuting?
sull0112 2 years ago
Depending on the sword and cutting experience the sword should stay sharp for quite some time. If a knick on the blade happens from a misdirected cut then by all means sharpen it, however most katana will cut well for quite some time. Even the low end assemble yourself sword stays well sharp after cutting. The one I have in my personal collection has never been re-sharpened and I have been cutting sago palm branches which is a very hard wood.
SamuraiSupply 2 years ago
also very nice and thx for the assembly video i really needed that. ur the only one that has the masahiro assembly kit version on how to assemble it, thx

Very Well Done, How Often Should You Clean It??
sull0112 2 years ago
Check monthly for any signs of pitting if it is in storage and if used for tameshigiri it should be oiled right after use. It is recommended that the sword also be lightly oiled before any cutting exercises as it will help to cut better and protect blade. After cleaning and oiling, it is very important to ensure that the habaki is clean and dry of any oil as if there is residue it will absorb into the koiguchi of saya and could cause it to spread thereby making a loose fit on the sword.

what's that bow around the red shell thing?
xxBloodyAngel25xx 2 years ago
This is the Sageo (knot) aroung the kurigoto(knob) of the saya.
SamuraiSupply 2 years ago
on your website you have a masahiro and another built your own katana. the cheapen one doesnt have the kit included. why not?! add one please!
bentenren 2 years ago
Well to put it simply, the selling price for the cheap assemble yourself is almost cost, so adding a maintenance kit puts us at a loss. I would love to be able to do this though.
