  • I found this song watching a movie called Parasomnia. <3

  • dhfeld, very good performance! (clap) Do you have the piano sheets?

  • Kenny VS Spenny.

  • Is it wrong if i mention that i first heard this melody in the film Caligula?

Oh well, I love them anyway (the film AND the melody)

  • beautiful piano and he looks like a good pianist- a good combination...except sound is not the best by far on this youtube video...too sharp and sound quality somewhat poor with recording sound to it :(

  • @SevaVideo This was recorded almost five years ago using a simple camcorder. Today, everyone has pocket HD video capability. Not then.

  • God I wish I could play this.

  • @candyrox9311 Give it a try!

  • i like it

  • Someone link me the sheet music to this please.

  • The negative comments are by people who are jealous, like me.

  • @JayKeaton That's actually very good. Thanks for my afternoon chuckle!

  • @JayKeaton jealous like me too. I think I spotted some mistakes but he's still dang better than me.

If you played that 5 years ago, I'm curious to hear how you perform it now. Are there newer videos?

Btw, I found this vid while searching for this score. Keep up the good work!

  • @synsei1 it would be nice hearing your opinion about my playing: /watch?feature=player_embedded&v=08sMCUnoAHU

    thank you :)

  • @123Shankar123 I commented your video. Again, I'm not "qualified" to judge, I left my 2cents of constructive critique and encouragements.

  • My favorite piano melody.

  • beautiful, just make sure to not let the bridge of your nuckles collapse, mountains not vallies :)

wonderful interpretation, i love the voicing

  • That is pretty f@*king amazing.

  • You've already got enough applesauce on your plate Spencer.

  • begining is SLOW not fast like his -.-

  • @01kenan01 aww boo hoo... people are gonna do things differently whether you like it or not

  • @KelseyMarieSchwarz

lol the trick of playing piano is to play as him not as how you want ...

  • @01kenan01 than everything would be the same, if the world was run by you, tributes would be exact replicas.. and there would be no such thing as having fun playing a song or painting a picture the way You want to...

  • @KelseyMarieSchwarz

then live your life nolifer -.-

    ther are rulls -.-

  • you dont feel this music... its a pitty... :/

  • Boy, you are talent, but you dont feel this music... damage...

  • KENNY VS SPENNY

  • She is so great!! WOW

  • You do a really good job with this. Nice tempo that you hold throughout.

  • talented young man! keep practising!!

  • On the 4th page you make more than 10 mistakes concerning the right hand, and the left hand is the melody btw.

  • might I add, that I listened to the orchestra arrangement for this for my composition class and I fell in love instantly. I play piano and thought, it would be awesome if there was a piano arrangement.. and LO and behold! I found you. Amazing. imo

  • weeooww fantastic performance! you kind of look like mclovin from superbad haha

  • it's good. i would like to play this as well, but i don't know if i could handle it just yet. i'm playing inventions & heller (currently warrior song), can i give it a go, or should i wait some more?

  • Seriously impressed by this - it is a dance - a slow, posturing, threatening dance - you capture an edge of dissonance here- but - above all - your playing is defined, decisive and strong.

  • @griveous112

What on earth are you talking about? Oh well.

  • @dhfeld Dont listen to him... you play great!

  • @griveous112 Shame on you, you dare to that he "removes" notes when he's just following the piano arrangement composed by prokofiev himself?? And I suppose you also didn't know that you change the tempo for dramatic and musical effect.

  • @griveous112

    I lol'd

Makes me think of Amadeus. Too many notes.

  • @griveous112 You sir, are a douche. He played it awesome.

  • @griveous112 Fuck you, asshole.

  • @griveous112 haha griveous. this is the correct tempo. Some directors in the orchestras take this faster. There's no "correct" tempo because I guarantee no one plays it the same. Can I see you play this, if you are so much better? I think you did a great job dhfeld. Good to know 11 year olds are so stuck up.

YOU DID GREAT! and next to an 11 year old ... I'm at college now as a music major so.. I think I have the upper hand.

  • @griveous112 Learn to play yourself and let's see how well you play under pressure of a camera, having to play precisely, the way it's supposed to sound. He did a wonderful job at playing this piece, and you should compliment him on it. If you don't have anything nice to say about his performance, then don't have to say anything at all.

  • @EinsDaVinGaliDar excuses, excuses.... the guy has a point, and he's not the only one btw: it just aint great - and no amount of "well, if you can do better!" and "be nicey-nice!" defensive bullshit will change that - plus he wasnt being nasty, just direct.

In fact, if the player listens to much to people like you and your tremendous crock of pleasantries, it never will be great. He'll just end up with his head in his ass, excelling at being average.

i guess that will make you happy, huh?

  • @dean0waterz true dat

  • @griveous112 hey gotta commend him. Can you play like that? EXACTLY

  • @griveous112 since he is a soloist he can do whatever he want with the song, including mix with the tempo and improvise.

  • @griveous112

I want to see you how "well" you can play this if you can say, what you said .I think really not like this talent guy! Great job!

  • @griveous112 he's got a point its true

  • Superb : )

  • AMAzing!!

  • Браво!

  • I dont like it when the right hand is lagging behind. Sounds better when its played straight forward. Very nice performance still.

  • Wow. You're great!! I love it.

  • Outstanding work, great piece.

  • nice tone, but a few mistakes.maybye you should give more feelings in it.but ok for your age.

  • kenny vs spenny

  • This a great MOOD piece. Thanks, Anthony, for your interpretation!

  • nice job mate

  • I absolutely LOVE sergei, and you did very well on this piece!!!!! :D

  • Love this song....

I could do without the "nice" part though.

It's supposed to be serious XD

    Gj.

  • Good job! Few mistakes in the beggining and last part, but it was well-played! Congrats!

  • WONDERFUL!!! Hard piece to play but you did so masterfully!!! OUTSTANDING JOB!!!

  • lovely how you bring out the different voices, particularly the melody in octaves in the left hand! Congratulations, very effective!

  • Thanks. BTW, part of our family came from Kiev 100 years ago.

  • GREAT!!! :D

  • approx what grade does this fit into ?

    was amazing btw.

  • Dude! You're awesome! I'm learning that now!

  • ahaha it's him... sorry I blocked your

  • so badass

  • it was okay

  • Nicely played.

  • Still the best piece of classical music, ever written!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ....but the shorts and shirt is the best :D

  • Hey, what can I say. I was twelve or thirteen. :-)

  • @dhfeld The shorts are not important.

  • Great! Greetings

  • man you have more talent than does contemporary pop artist and rap they totally blow. well most of the. great song too

  • beautiful!

    congratulations!

  • What do people feel about such music being used as an intro to the apprentice and introductions to certain footballs teams entrances onto the pitch.

  • The first two minutes should prove to anyone that you can do just about anything with one piano.

  • only ash remains (necrophagist) ¿?

  • Yes. This piece or at least the beginning is on the song only ash remain the last maybe 20 sec.

    Sounds really nice :)

  • dude ue great!! can u tell me where i can find the sheet?

  • Hi, i have wrote the sheet out for piano if you want it just pm me and i will send you it :)

  • No one plays the pedal E. Not even the Double Basses. I've had the opportunity to play the Bass Trombone part (it was a unisono part for Bass Trombone and Tuba). I asked the Double Bassists: they didn't play an octave lower than us... ever.

If you dont' believe me, go look at Abbado's and the BPO's performance of this piece. Double Basses cannot play low E in the position they're fingering (highest possible is 5th fret on the B string, which is the "German" tuning).

    Good performance, not easy!

  • Bravo!

  • Amazing!

  • I'm not disparaging this pianist, but my honest opinion is this: I've been playing piano for 11 years, and I easily picked up this piece because I wanted to play this for a local Shakespeare Festival at my school. I practiced for hardly a month and I play this with if not better technical and overall muscianship skill at least the same as this pianist. I would like to point out the scaling octaves in the left hand at 1:16. He clearly quickens the pace and gets off rhythm. But nonetheless, bravo!

  • i do agree, it doesn't look greatly technical (although i know i can't play it) but i dont think it is as famous as it is because its technical, classical music is about how it makes you feel

  • do you have the sheets? or, where did you get them?

  • The piece is Prokofiev's Op. 75. It's not available for free yet on IMSLP. You have to buy it. We got the Edition Sikorski. That contains all ten pieces of Op. 75.

  • Learn Moonlight Sonata to charm the ladies.

  • for how long have you been practising for this piece?

  • Well, I spent about six months learning and then polishing it. When I started learning it I had been playing the piano for about five years. This recording was made over two years ago.

  • You started when you've only had 5 years of piano lessons?! Wow, that's really great!

I'm trying to play this piece, and it's really hard (you know ;)) and I've already had 8 years piano lessons.

    Well done!

  • Comment removed

  • Dude you can really go somewhere with that kind of playing ^^

  • where had u got the sheets?

  • I like this peice of music on the cello.

Its more smooth and gives you a feeling to get up and dance.

But it gave me goosebumps when I played this on the cello.x

  • An amazing performance!! I do have one suggestion though: Prokofiev wrote that the beginning of this piece should be played pesante, non legato. That means you WILL NOT play ANY legato under penalty of death! That's how serious Prokofiev was when he wrote that. So you might as well play the beginning with hammers, or at least that's what it should sound like. Other than that, well done!

  • Amazing!!!

  • that was like a dream in my ears.. loved it

  • brilliant

  • have you ever play at vcu before? I swear i remember a kid playing that looked like you

  • Yes, I played in a VCU master class led by Prof. Dmitri Shteinberg two years ago. Did you also perform there as well?

  • sorry on violin is heaps better,

  • i love this! i must have rated it like 5 times... oh well!

  • DĚVČE have you got what catch. but congratulate:)

  • Beautiful... Bravo! Bravo!

  • nice job.. jsut remember when you play ou should keep your wrists a little lower.. i wrecked mine by not.. now ther agony everytime i play.. ull get whats called a ganglion 9dont ask me the spelling) but seriously nice job..

  • HA! This just made me crack up about ganglions. My friend had one from playing the cello and how we laughed! I didn't think it was a real thing until now! Again, great playing :D

  • awesome mate, hello from Scotland.

  • wtf?

  • *wispers*: He's playing the piano my friend ;)

  • very nice... lemme see some chopin now

  • Your wish is my command. :-)

There is one up on the page: dhfeld

  • Powerful!

You need some work of course, but all over its beautiful:)

  • Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! from Argentina

  • Wonderful!!!!

  • AMAZING!

  • Excellent!

    I really enjoyed it.

Nice contrast in dynamics, I can tell how hard the piece is and you did a great job.

The only thing that could be improved is a little less pedal, but having to concetrate on other areas of difficulty, I can understand that the pedal wasn't absoulutely 100% perfect.

    Once again great job!

  • Your Fired!

  • NICE... you don't even know how to write it correctly . . . it's "you're fired"

  • brilliant!!!!

  • grotrian piano... that's like a bently in the living room. beautiful piece... have you tried to play with less pedal and more rubato? You need to worry less about wrong notes and let yourself go more. Music is not about perfection but expression.

  • that's powerfull!

  • is there somewhere i can download a version of this only by piano, the one i keep finding is the orchestra version

  • just dowload this vid @ keepvid . com

  • He/She meant sheet music, I believe...

  • IMSLP

  • absolutely amazing... well done

  • nice.

  • this piece is played on some of the kenny vs spenny shows

  • Beautiful, excellent ! Thanks for promoting Prokofiev's music !

  • Top tune our kid, well smart !!!

  • man I wish somehow I could get a clean mp3 version of this x3 Very nicely done, it's done very powerfully (just how I like this song)!

  • You have amazing skill

    mi piace questi canzone

    j'aime cette chanson

  • podoba mi sie :) a to dzięki reklamie Nescafe expresso hehe :)

  • This song is a beautiful example of changing minor keys

  • I couldn't agree more, now that i think about it :D

  • very nice!

  • ooh, i've never seen a grotrian on youtube before. nice.

  • A beautiful piece of music by prokofiev and the person who played this piece. Magnificent.

How long did it take you to learn all the notes?

  • asolutely great ! thanks to you to share somthingsso interesting and BEAUTIFUL. from my heart: thanks

  • I believe this is called "Dance of the Knights."

  • its called montagues and capulets 2!!!:)

  • i dont think that the CD is wrong, it says Dance of the Knights" on my cover ^^

  • In the ballet it is referred to as Dance of the Knights. In Prokofiev's piano suite (Op. 75) it is called Montagues & Capulets. This is the piano version.

  • CHECK OUT THE DRUM REMIX TO THIS !!! SO FUNNY!! type in ' Prokofiev drum remix' to find it

  • Childish!

  • auch nicht besser als das vorherige. er unterbricht zu stark und zu viel Tempischwankungen nee gefällt mir nicht.Hochachtung natürlich dem Pianisten...

  • As my piano teacher says, It is better to over do it!

    Very good! Very dramatic!

  • Well done, though it seems like you got a bit lost in the central part of the piece. For a 13 years old it's still a very honorable rendition, and I'm convinced you could do it even better now! :)

  • Hey I have a question...on measures 19-22....it's really hard to get two different rhythms playing at once...did you have any difficulty with it? Did you do anything that helped you practice it?

  • Break it down into very small bits, as small as two beats. Work the rhythm out with a metronome and practice it until it is down pat. The same will apply even more so to bars 35-36.

    Best of luck!

  • Oh, haha, I got it already now. I spent like 5-6 hours last saturday night. I'm almost finished with the entire first part of the piece...you know, before the dolce sounding part comes in. I haven't actually sight read that yet but it can't be any harder than the 2 over 3 crap.

  • The middle section may be harder than the outer sections. The voicing is really tricky. You really have to emphasize what each finger (especially the pinky) is doing separately.

  • I figured....prokofiev didn't put that in for a break in difficulty. So you practiced for 6 MONTHS?!?!? Geez! What did you practice on the most? Just getting it consistent or what?

  • Indeed. While it's not difficult relative to the more advanced repertoire, the middle section - in particular, the bar with the trill - is tricky.

  • Good job! The maniacal glare at the end actually adds to the mood of this piece...I don't know if that glare was intended but I liked it. I think if you were to perform this piece, instead of getting up and doing the same old thing everybody else does...you should glare at them XD. Anyways, good job!

  • haha yes!! i agree wouldn't be the same without that look

  • ...what a weird comment

  • not bad

  • FANTASTIC!

    keep up the practising

you are superb for such a young man!

  • soften the left hand. you look very young. i am impressed. nice work.

  • Stupendous!

  • Awesome stuff, I can't get enough of this!

  • ahh dont listen to andypops and hyperland this is really good playing!!!

  • Thanks, but I actually think hyperlard was writing a compliment. Andypops111, I'm not sure. Heck, it's the web. Everybody can be a critic!
