We still need the smothers brothers on TV. They are so funny not just their political skits but all their jokes are great. This is not the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour this is the Smothers Brothers Show. It came after the comedy hour. Thanks so much for posting this this is great. Where did you get it?
bedirty, I was around when the Smothers Brothers were current, but I don't remember this skit. It goes to show the more things change, the more they remain the same. I embedded it in my article,
'From: “I’m As Mad As Hell and I’m Not Going To Take It Anymore” In The Spirit Of ’76 – To: “We Have Had It” In The Spirit of ’11'
From '68 or the 1975 specials, it ws so far ahead of it's time. People think that Nostrademaus could predict the future. The mention of terror, all though no stranger to the 70's, is of course today in our living room more often than Vietnam was then. And the Rap thing, They didn't get that from MC Hammer.

bedirty: Your 1968 date can't be right. The 50s show was called the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Given the reference to Watergate, I would say this was early 70s. I think they had 3 variety shows in total.
allieree, Republicans, Democrats, no difference; both lie, steal, murder and rape farm animals. Do you think the Afghans like being bombed by that nice Mr Obama more than they liked being slaughtered by mean Mr Bush? The problem is one of statism, not of which gang of thieves is currently destroying the U.S. economy while "collaterally damaging" half the world and running torture prisons in Gitmo and Bagram. The empire is evil no matter who is the emperor. PEACE and LIBERTY!
Great to share these memories! The Smother's Brothers are still a favorite. Glad to know that we lived through those times, and we'll survive this crisis, too, despite the politicians that are "working in our best interest"!
When this was made, Wall Street had trouble, politicians were dishonest & took bribes. Wonder what Dick & Tommy would say about the latest bribes - millions of dollars of pork projects being approved in return for that bailout being passed.
It was fun seeing Pat Paulsen in this. I remember his mock presidential campaign. And I remember thinking he'd probably run the oountry better than the real candidates.

According to ASCAP, the song itself was written by Mike Reilly (remember "1927 Kansas City", anybody?)

Yes this had to be in the 1970's ... yes this is sadly revelant today. We need the Smother Brothers now more than ever!

Father Guido and the oil stuff at the end is so current. "I used to like Cod but now it tastes like permalube" is priceless.

Yeah. The date's not right on this. Watergate happened after 68. Amazing piece, though.

@3salamanders Watergate happened in 71 and became a big story after the election of Nixon for his second term.

"Malingering with animals" = Skipping work claiming illness with animals?
Could this possibly be the very first Rap Music?

That Pat Paulsen was a real soothsayer. He knew about Watergate four years before it happened!
The stuff you learn on the Internets.

@TommyCraw It is! The music, Dick greying up a tad bit, the Watergate reference.

What does the father guy say at the end with the oil industry?

How timely and classic. Some things never change, especially when the Republicans have the control of Washington.

This couldn't be 1968. Pat Paulsen made a Watergate reference. I imagine this is probably from their 1975 series.
