@raiderboy2011 The recoil from the pole plus good body positioning... if you can stay in line with a pole vault pole as it is giving you recoil it will shoot you straight up.

@raiderboy2011 on top of that, when he rotates, he is nearly weightless and he is pushing with his arms... thus propelling him further.
