I think Shikamaru is like becoming Naruto's brother or something when he tells him that Jiriya had passed down his tehcniques to his successor Naruto. He's telling him that Jiraiya didn't die in vain, he was someone special just like Asuma was./

You know, when i saw this manga chapter it reminds of how Shimkamaru's father had a talk with Shikamaru about how friend should always be there for each other. Its like Shikamaru now takes his father's advice and puts it On Naruto to regain his confidence and get him back on track.

yea but the thing i didnt like was that shikamaru is telling him to grow up and shit but jiarya was one of the only people to give him 100% respect and he was like his only father figure. True.....Kakashi should know about Jiraiya's books as much as Jiraiya (The Make-Out Paradise ones)....but there is another book, that I think Kakashi doesn't know about, and that book is the book Jiraiya showed to The Fourth Hokage one time, about his Life experiences, remember? The one The fourth used to name Naruto with!

Why haven't they told Naruto that the fourth is his Father? Doesn't the people of Konoha know his the son of the fourth? That kinda seems impossible that the residents doesn;t know, his father's pretty popular.

Got a theory after reading comments from previous posts. The towns people know about the nine tailed attack and that the fourth died beacuse of this and then after that naruto came and all the people knew is that he was the one that attacked the village, killing the fourth, but they didn't know about the sealing because it happened right after naruto was born,

the fourth died, sealing the kyuubi in him, never declaring that the fourth had a son, and naruto live a life of rejection all because of a little misunderstading. The believe that naruto was the one who made the attack killing the fourth but actually, the fourth sealed the kyuubi in naruto, His wife, kushina was in labor during the attack, and when naruto was born,
