  • @BbXh0BbIes actually Ian and Jimmy share the vocal on this track,

  • @LeftinThree And what a harmony it is, gives me goosebumps :)

  • Australia's REAL National Anthem.

  • @TheHarrisonFile FUCKIN OATH

  • Too bad, I'm leaving this Friday WA to go back to Germany. Would have been great to see Chisel live at Upper Swan.

  • 16 days and counting. Can't wait to see them live again. However, won't be the same without Steve.

  • I cover that one .. :) that was the best band ever!

  • SHIT this is good.

  • Jimmy Barnes - wot a voice

  • @bearmanmr sorry to tell you ian moss actually sings this song

  • Their best song. Then, in order, Forever Now, When the War is Over, Cheap Wine and Khe Sanh

  • Legends !

  • This magic song has echoed in my heart since hearing it first in the late 80's. For the very first time today I actually bought a Cold Chisel record! The re-mastered, expanded, collector's edition......MASTERPIECE!!!

  • I'm livin in the US now.. Youtube clips of chisel are all that keep me sane on those nights when the homesickness sets in...

Btw.. won a radio comp once, and had Barnsey come to my place for a BBQ!! Few VB's with the big man and it was all ace!!

  • yeow!!!

  • cold chisel is by far the best band barnsey is tha man!!

  • They even kept a few Englishmen sane, those lucky enough to discover the magnificent Cold Chisel!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lombard8814 Just south of Lake Argyle in WA. Long way from nowhere!!

  • @lombard8814 there are 2 bow rivers in W.A. . popular opinion is that the song was written about bow river in the kimberley region.

  • Barnsey's fae the Weeg. M'on yasel fella X

  • This is the best song to drive to.

  • About the only song I know of that CANNOT be repeated as well LIVE... still remember 1st time I heard this standing on the 1st tee at Riverside Golf Club in Port Adelaide when I was 16... so effing chilling !

  • i know sad a

  • ian moss so nailed this song. possibly the best aussie band ever. the plastic "mcmusic" of today just doesnt stack up in comparison. when will the record companies wake up and bring back real music???

  • ian moss so nailed this song. possibly the best aussie band ever.

  • @lombard8814 There are 2 answers to your question. Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. OR more importantaly Wherever the fuck you want to be in your life or location. Please remember The Money you save wont buy your youth again. We are here for a good time , not a long time. Cheers.

  • @stevelewis3 hell yeah... life is for living...

I certainly have the motor running.....

  • Mossy...

  • the misses loves this song

iv never heard it before in my life lol

  • I sure as hell hope cold chisel is where we go when the world ends today... ignore this post after may 21st :P

  • I love this song

and i am 10 my mum and dad listen to it

  • @mchd1998 nobody cares your age partner you just like this and thats good, we dont care if you are 10 or 70.

If you want to show us "hope" in the new generation, it's fine, but we actually got it, rock n roll wont die

  • @xsurvinnorex umm i think they do cares coz i have 6 like and u have wat ummm 0

  • @mchd1998 ... good to see ur parents have great taste in music and that u appreciate it

  • I love this song

  • i wonder if "Bow River" refers to where me and the old man used to go shooting on weekends at Bow Hill in SA. we had mates with a property up there, was mainly farming area, lots of Italians farming onions and stuff. gotta love Mossy's voice, i like it better than Barnsy's. Mossy sweated on me when i was in the front row, I think it was at The Talbot. His black curls flicking around as he played. Sooooo good.

  • The guys were certainly firing when they recorded this.

  • Everything comes together in this song. The lyrics are words to live by. And musically, the split duties between Moss and Barnes works brilliantly with the escalation of feeling in the song, and the band is just smokin' with the progression.

And finally, the Coda ("I don't need the score ...") takes what would have been a great song and makes it immortal.

When everything comes together like this, no wonder the result is just magic.

Really one of the all time greats.

    Thanks for posting.

  • great saturday rfo drinking songs

  • oh this is soooo good

  • the two ppl who dont like this need to sort out their priorities

  • the 2 who disliked this video have NO FUCKING IDEA what good music is because they are either fucking deaf or dumb lads who relate to fiddy cent!!!!

  • I really, really, really prefer the album version and also have. Thanks for putting it here. I don't know why they put the awful live version on the Chisel Greatest Hits CD. Weird.

  • oorah!!!!

  • Steve, you were 57 years too young. You will be missed, you will be missed.

  • i was born 11 years after this song was released and think its fucking awsome, u dont here rock like this anymore. cold chisel, ac/dc, ccr all the best bands are gone or in ac/dc's case getting much older

  • cold chisels cool

  • godDAMN this is a good song. I've had it stuck in my head for days.

  • Great vocal by Ian Moss!

  • @hughwilson with the bridge lead and BVs by Jimmy of course. But Ian rocks the lead vocal.

  • Both this song and 'Flame Trees' are the ultimate driving songs in my oppinion

  • @todles18184 Do you prefer the album or live version. To me, the album version is much more powerful.

  • @EddieAlda i definately prefer the album. i just love the ever increasing pace of the song. The vibe of it is amazing

  • for years I thought it said " the money I save wont by my ute again" how Australian is that and Im a kiwi

  • @dusterdarryl love it... lol :-).

  • @dusterdarryl same :)

  • @dusterdarryl he says the money i save wont buy my youth again

  • Best Song they made

  • God this is good stuff.... I can believe how much Jimmy Barnes sounds like Bon Scott from ACDC

  • I have listened to this band my whole life...... I don't see why I should stop doing it now.

  • Mossy play's harder and in my opinion better than angus young, shame they never made it internationally

  • @nunan09 Ian Moss: criminally underrated guitarist and an amazing vocalist.

  • @vdeferens - You certainly have an odd (anatomical) name, but you are dead right about Ian Moss. His latest album really features his truly beautiful, soulful voice. His live performance on Spicks and Specks last year ('10)was astonishing!!

  • toss up with standing on the outside and home and broken hearted for my fave song

  • Amazing when it came out and my god here we are in 2010 and guess what still amazing!!

  • "And the money I save won't buy my youth again"

Can that kind of lyric ever be repeated again??

    Without profanity(F**k) or sexism(B**ch,H*) or rasicm(N**ga,Cr****r).?

  • summer days an the chisels on the tape deck - defines a generation

  • Hell yeah, I remember as a kid back in the eighties my dad would always play Cold Chisel in our Holden Belmont station wagon on our family trips out in the wops in summer, best days ever

  • i thought this was the video clip

  • Best Chisel tune ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the best songs ever.

  • Fave Chisel song...love it

  • And they are what made the Australian Rock industry what it is today!! \m/ Chisel Rock \m/

  • as barnesy would say 'fuckin classic"

  • I first heard this band in England thanks to my girlfriend at the time bringing the CD back from Australia. I was utterly blown away. How was it they did not take the world by storm. Some of the greatest rock songs ever written. PERIOD!

They brightened my life and made me cry, smile and reflect in so many ways. I own just about everything they ever released and I am forever grateful that they stood up and did what they did. Pure genius. They made this Englishman very happy.

  • Ian moss, You F**kin legend

  • ian moss sounds better than jimmy

  • Worked in the mines in the late 80's and early 90's. Bow river was one of the most influential songs of that era. You played CHISEL and kept yourself sane. We used to drive from the Isa to Townsville(a nine hour drive) for a Hamburger.

  • @6819ljj lies

  • @6819ljj Was that a question or a statement?

  • Why not just turn off all comments ? alot of posts are going this way.

  • had this album in vinyl played it till it got scratched real bad when i used to have some crankin parties in the cvan in the old days. pissin my money up against a wall

  • I tried searching for this song on I-Tunes but they don't have the original....only more recent live versions by Ian Moss.

  • Ian Moss who wrote this song is originally from Alice Springs and made his fame and fortune working in big cities "down south".

I have wondered how "personal' the lyrics are.

A boy leaves the big city to return home,

  • @OzzInter I got to see Mossy in the late eightiesm in Alice, he was supberb!

  • @OzzInter In response to what you've had to day my friend........This song is MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE Cold Chisel song & along with Barnsy's No Second Prize..these 2 songs have LITERALLY saved my life........Nuff Said.......

    Peace ,

    Hapkidude

  • KILL ME! KILL ME NOW!!!!!!

  • Going home to Australia for Easter, just outside Melb., excited to see mum and my brothers, breath clean air, see blue sky and the stars at night...and eat a chiko roll, couple if dimmies and a decent pastie...feel like I am going back to Bow River

  • I'm glad I had a friend, who brougt Circus Animals over to me in Germany already in '82/'83. So I may listen to this songs since almost 30 years. And I do so. You can hear 5 musicians, and not just a singer and a guitarist with a changeable band.

Bow River is so excellent, one may feel the power of the engine... "that burns my name in the road"

    Great Songs, and true lyrics!

  • @jeverlite `Too true! I don't own a Cold Chisel album but I think they are fantastic. I have been past Bow River a couple of times and, you can still see the graffiti that was done in the '70"s! The crappy truckstop should be heritage listed!!

  • One of the greatest songs EVER!!!

  • where can i buy this song online???

  • itunes should have it

  • I couldln't find it....at least I couldn't find THIS version

  • love it....a true aussie great

  • reminds me of my time in oz.fantastic band saw mossey live he is ace

  • Hi tazzieBbe,i love all oz+nz bands from my time in oz back in first half of the 1980s, as well as chisel, i still like inxs, midnight oil, aussie crawl, angels, hoodoo gurus, ect...split enz on in my car at mo.

  • they dont make songs like this anymore

    fuckin great

  • @patricorodriguez yeah shame too. i know just about every lyric for every one of these songs and i'm 14 XD lol. i don't really like all the new ones now; they've got no meaning

  • This recording shows they are the tightest musos you'll ever hear. Ian Moss is a talent like no other.

  • anyone been to bow river W.A??

  • this song is awesome. it reminds me of the Riverland in South Australia, anyone could have a BBQ and a few beers listening to this awesome band

  • I'm from thr UK, actually heard this song on some 1995 Neighbours episode re runs. Had to listen really hard to work out the lyrics until I could find it!

  • I blocked jhmanga. Not because he doesn't like Cold Chisel - I blocked him because he's a pathetic troll with nothing useful to say and no life. Judging by the comments on his userpage he's been trolling for several months now.

  • I hear ya m8. I'm usually willing to give anybody a chance, but when they come out swinging from the get-go you're not left with a lot of options (unless you're a saint - which I'm decidedly not, more's the pity).

  • Great move blocking the no-life wanker, and by the way, great song,

Chizel will rock forever in our place

  • Yeah, it is a crime the Tatts didn't break here, but that's another matter, ya rocket. Tell ya what m8 this handbags at 20 paces call and response is boring as hell. If the last word is so damned important to you, take it - I bequeath it gladly. I do know people were happily enjoying discussing a damn fine R&R band 'till you came on needing to be noticed and cocked up the party. Whatever floats your boat - I can't be arsed wasting time with this rubbish any longer.

  • PMSL - if that's your def of a tool, I guess I am one, and proudly so. George Michael? Delta Goodrem? Anybody else you want to list in your faves - like Miley Cyrus or Paris Hilton, maybe? Ya really gave me a ggod laugh there m8. Thanks for the lift!

  • Right. Just what the world needs - another internet f*ck-wit. Thanks for the helpful comments, but if you want music that truly sucks, look at you own favourites. Soulless plastic crap, m8 - sorry to be the one to break it to you, but life's full of hard lessons learned.

  • Pure dead brilliant band. Criminal that them and the Tatts never broke it big over in the States.

  • that is a fucken shame really, they are bloody brilliant there songs are the pure stuff as they pointed out on the chisel CD.

anyone could have a beer, a pie and watching the footy or the cricket.

  • sums up my career with WMC. one of the best Oz songs ever.

  • Classic Aussie rock at its best!!

  • I discovered this song when I was watching Top Gear Australia in the episode where Ian Moss is The Star in a Bog Standard Car

  • one of the best bands ever

  • I couldn't agree more. They are so underrated, and they would have been very popular overseas if more people outside Australia had heard of them. They definitely stand the test of time too - I was born more than five years after this song was released.

  • @Cs19872 They were heard overseas though. Producers wanted to sign them in America, but they didn't want to sell their soul to become famous, so they gave them the finger and went back to being real :) Listen to "You Got Nothing I Want" for a better idea of how Barnsey perceives American producers :P

  • pub rock !!!

  • one of the best australian songs ever

  • Love this!!!

    thank you!

    POWERFUL song

  • top aussie pub song top stuff!!!

  • The money I save wont buy my youth again.

    That's good advice people.

  • Chisel forever!

  • Agreed!!!

  • Mossey Rocks, Barnsey Legend, one of my favorite karaoke songs with Flame Trees..

  • bloody awsome

  • Thats a pimp caravan...song is a classic
