  • Thanks Isaac - I just relistened to this several years old version shortly after I'd first "mastered" the song - much appreciated

  • dude i dont know who u are but that shit fuckin rocked. willie mctells version is epic and pat donohues is almost as brilliant and u do both of them justice

  • Greeting from Dublin Ireland - Lovely playing and singing. Great version - Keep it up

  • good stuff dude

  • Holy crap! I think all Allman freaks should listen to this (me included) Your killin' on that geetar.

  • Chris Smither's version on 'Don't it drag on' is my fave outside of the original.

  • Insperational! Jeez.., Thank You. More plz, with a little more voice volume.., wow, good day to be alive, again.

  • I miss the emotion of Willie McTell as can be heard on the original, recorded Oct.17/1928.

  • I absolutely love Willie McTell's original version - I wasn't actually trying to render Willie here - what if all musicians were only to render Willie when thgey sang his songs? It can be a misguided notion that when you sing a soong you have to render the originator. He sang it the way he felt it - and NO ONE feels it like Willie! But I sang without compromise how I felt it too - hopefully that Willie'd like to hear from another.

  • completly agree with you, its about finding you own sound not imatating, I heard that a young Jimi Hendrix was laughed of the stage when he tried to play B.B King licks.

  • great !!

  • you don't lie

  • That's great, silasbuc. Sounds like Paul Geremia's version. Are you playing in Open C or what?

    Thanks

  • I'm tipping my hat to the man with nothin' to prove but the groove - that hard man to google - the one and many - Pat Donohue!!! - It's in Dropped D tuning on ridiculously slinky strings

  • Terrible guitar, terrible playing, terrible voice but - brilliant anyway, don't like it but couldn't stop it either - must be the blues. gg.

  • Absolutely! As Houndog Taylor put it: When I'm gone, people will say - 'he couldn't play sh-- but he sure made it sound good'" - So you put me up there with Houndog!! - I'm yet unworthy but the fires are stoked!

  • Very authentic feel for this type of music. Punchy, driving delivery with old timey feel bass lines was good.

  • Great Blind Willie tune! Keep these clips coming, it's what youtube's all about.
