people think that this is shit because it's a new sort of art that they never heard and it's not commercial ... thank you john for your creativity and your pure art! we support you ! keep rockin
"all is here, the world is just a sphere, no bigger than the balls you suck" haha I know this isn't supposed to be a funny song but i always laugh at that one line
Not only was Frusciante the Jimi Hendrix of the '90s. He was also the Thelonious Monk of the '90s, lol. Seriously, I know he hates comparisons like that, and so do I -- but he's fucking beautiful. All-around excellence.
Alot of people make good music when they do drugs/drink/both heavily but their music is still amazing sober. This compared to songs on the empyrean is a good example. I love all of John's music.
@bassfunk5 He actually wrote all of these songs before he started drugs and quit the band. Flea was the one who encouraged him to quit the band if he wasn't happy and to release these songs because flea thought that they were good.
i hate how people degrade this album by saying he was on heroin when he made it... he wasn't even on heroin when he recorded and wrote most of this album.. and even so what difference does it make.. its just so beautiful
John Lennon once said something like, "I'm an artist. If you give me a tuba, I'll get something out of it." This man is our generation's John Lennon, and I'm sure the Walrus himself would trip out to this album all the time.
@mussman717word There is no evidence that John Lennon ever said that. The problem with quoting people is that no one bothers to check and see if the person ever wrote down or recorded the proposed quote. You heard that Lennon said that from The Departed and just assumed that it was true.
The first time I saw "the Departed" I finished the quote before Jack Nicholson. You might be right, but if you are, then many other sources are wrong. It is widely credited to John Lennon, and frankly, it does sound like something he would say.
he recorded some of this stuff in his bathroom at his house and he was so completely drugged up on heroin. but whats great about this stuff is its soooo different than everything else at the time. it makes u listen and view things in a different perspective
correct supern00b, john was completely strung out during the creation of this album ('94). his addiction lasted until '98 before he reunited with the chili peppers to help release californication
a lot of the stuff on this album was recorded before he left the peppers. same with smile on the streets. so no, he was not strung out during the entire creation of either album.
semi true... alot of his earlier work was written (some even recorded) when he was younger, before he was a rock star... but yeah he was fucked up when he was putting his early albums out
I don't think so. Most of Niandra was recorded (and definitely written) before he was addicted to dope. I'm sure there were heavy amounts of canabis, though. No doubt. I don't even have to be high to enjoy this, though. John's music is like a drug in and of itself, one that does no harm, only good.
I once heard someone say about John Frusciante that no one had "it" like he did. Curtains is a song that makes me agree with them, if I didn't always. Ya the Peppers are awesome and I wouldn't have been able to find his solo work otherwise, but his solo work is just in a complete other dimension.
you're right man!, it's art, but art is sometimes uncomprenssible, but when you get this, it's like food of your soul. i guess "curtains" is the best frusciante's song

Great song by JF. I think it's John that plays piano on this track. His mom played, I think....
Check out my cover on piano.

This song so reminds me of 'A man needs a maid' from Neil Young.

I always wondered if that was Chad Smith playing the piano. Still, it's an incredible song. My second favorite song by J-Fru.
Number 1 is "Carvel."
