To simpletom englishman, Elizabeth couldn't suck enough cocks to save the commonwealth. London town was destined to be a 3rd world country, but they had arms....and faught the Irish.....I remember well we faught the black and tans to fight for liberty....our leader was killed for not delivering and the brits liked the killing in the next decades as it was to make money.
The UVF, the Kaisers army, armed by the Kaiser and funded by german sympathisers, remember they were willing in 1913/14 to kill British Tommies to defend their bigoted ways
Excellent video and great tribute to the 36th Ulsters. It must be remembered that these men were and will always be heroes. It's a great shame that their counterparts in Ireland (Connaught Rangers etc) are totally ignored and forgotten by their own people. They'd rather remember terrorists than their own fellow countrymen, who bravely fought for the allies against a maniacal dictator. It's due to them(and all the the allied forces), that Ireland and the rest of the world are not in German hands.UVF
@strongarmofthepaw the kaiser was in charge of Germany in ww1 not hitler, but yeah the 36th were heroes as were a lot of southern Irish, who were viewed as traitors, and to a certain extent are now.My Grandads cousin died on 1st July with the Accrington pals aged just 20.They did what im certain you and i wouldnt have the guts to do.My daughter serving as a nurse in helmand.Lest any of us forget
@burnleyfan11965 Cheers for the correction - answering too many posts. Not far out though,Old Willie wasn't too much removed from Hitler, when you look back.Wish your daughter all the best.My boy left the RAF 3 years ago and has mixed feelings about rejoining.Everyone should be remembered, from the ones who made the bootlaces to the Rups at the top of the tree. They all play their part in their own wee way.God Bless Them All.
@strongarmofthepaw I beg to differ. The 10th and 16th Divisions are of course remembered in the South. We also rem the murderous scum of the UVF who bombed Dublin and Monaghan so don't get up on any hobby horses about terrorists. UVF is a filthy word now due to dirty deeds carried out in its name. Murder Tri-angle, Shankill Butchers etc. etc. . Carson wud hate to see his organisation hi-jacked by murderous thugs. Its Northerners who remember terrorists - Murals of UVF IRA on every other wall.
@EamonnKee Monaghan and Dublin bombings - completely unjustifiable by any right thinking person, but do not mix the original UVF with the modern UVF as they are similar in name only. "Hobby horse" -.What of the IRA INLA- training camps in Southern Ireland, gun runners, pubs used for terrorist meetings, terrorists given safe houses, terrorists funded by ROI,Garda collusion, church collusion, arms caches etc.The ROI has plenty to answer for in modern times. The context here is 1916 and the Great War !
@strongarmofthepaw Yes the context is the great war & 1916. 200,000 Southerners went, 60,000 died. They are well remembered down here but somehow forgotten by Northern "loyalists". You lied that we prefer to rem terrorists. You also know all terrorists come from the sectarian North, where the probs with guns, safe houses collusion, &c are a BILLION times worse than any such problem you pretend we have in the ROI. Northerners love their gunmen. We in the ROI don't want your Provos or UVF &al.
As an Englishman, would just like to pay a huge tribute to the men of the 36th Ulster Division, there's a reason why the Irish regiments of the British army have such a fierce reputation, God bless.
There are still many loyal Englishmen who are with you in your fight to remain free in Northern Ireland, we won't be defeated. NO SURRENDER.
@NoSurrender92 It would be worth pointing out to you as an Englishman that the 10th and 16th Irish Southern Divisions had 200,000men. The UK govt. had just passed the Home Rule Act, and these men VOLUNTEERED to fight for a new Ireland with Home Rule within the UK. The UVF was formed expressly to rebel against that law & the National Volunteers was set up to defend the country against promised UVF insurrection. However both were united in the defence of the country at home and in the trenches
what about the southern irish regemients there was the16th dublin which fought side by side with the 36th at the somme the connaght rangers and the 2 southern companies so what the fuck is all this shit about the 36th,the southern irish companies had more men and more casulties so fuck the 36th plenty more brave men to honour
@TRUETAIG What a ridiculous post obviously other people fought in the war many of them English also why don't you make a sight commemorating your own casualties.
my father, his father, and his father before him, fought in the british army...all for ulster..no.....but they never bent the knee..my father talked highly of the southerners and catholics in the commando reg...ulster is my land, ulster is my cause.
I have stood on the popes nose and in the pill box on the schwarben redout ,that killed the 36th as they climed out the sunken road,in the wood behind the Cemetry is the HQ dug out of Brigadier-General Crozier ,,the shit who had young Bill Crozier shot at dawn..No Surrender.....
@MTwillman I hate american idiots like you who thinks your irish cause you have one or two ancestors. how about you americans focus on your other ancestors and not just the irish. you will always be american and never irish
@MTwillman oh and ulster is only 2/3 british idiot. cavan, monaghan and donegal are part of the republic so stop refering northern ireland as ulster as I am from cavan and it is quite offensive
Very informative and interesting video. Some of the videos about the 36th Division seem to think that Ulster and Northern Ireland are synonymous terms where, as you rightly point out, vounteers and battalions from Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal were also in the 36th.
Great video both my great great uncle lost their lives in WW1 one was in the Royal irish rifles and the other was in the north irish horse. They both died in the somme i think. One was lost in action blown the bits and there is no record of him and the other was killed during a bombing raid at a field dressing station. RIP to all the men to gave their lives to queen and country <3
Absolutely brilliant! My grandfather and great uncle were both at the Somme, both were only wounded, thank God. What is the name of the last song and who is singing it?
@tate247 , The men of Easter week were no cowards. They fought knowing they had no chance of success against the biggest Empire on Earth at the time. The 36th Division were not alone at the Somme either, the 10th and 16th Irish Divisions combined loses there add up to more than the losses of the 36th. Check out the 'Island of Ireland Peace Park' on youtube or Wikepaedia. The inscription on that memorial says it all.
@tirnaog09 the rebels of 1916 dint care 1 jot for their fellow country men who got killed as a result of their actions in Dublin. they ingaged in a futile act in order to become myrters. i despise thoes scum with every part of my body. Long live the memore of all brave ulster and irish men who died weather catholic or protestant. they are the true heroes
It stirred the nation to freedom. If Britain hadn't started shooting them who knows what would have happened. In the 1918 election (the last in all Ireland) the Nationalists gained 75% of the seats and thus a mandate for independence. The planters in the North, making up 20% of the population defied the majority to create their undemocratic state, the 36th were alone in their sacrifice. Redmonds Irish voluteers were slaughtered believing Britain would grant them home rule when the war was over.
@tate247 They decided they didnt like democracy and so decided undemocratic means were the order of the day. The Dublin heroes of 1916 were true democrats.
The 16th Irish Division was also present at the Somme both Protestants and Catholics died side by side all issues put aside to help win the War so read a book! AND SHOW SOME RESPECT!
They did indeed and lets remember them too. The 1st ww was in some ways about Germany / Austro/Hungarian empire tramping on the rights of small on nations. At the time the call to arms went out all over Ireland to defend the rights of Belgium a small Catholic country. Those men put aside thier politicial dissagreements for a greater cause. We today could take a leaf out of thier book. There is more that unites us than divides us north and south of our beautiful Island. Faugh - A - Ballaugh
I wish the UK did what the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium, does every single day.
The town stands still every day and remembers.
We must challenge UK education and ensure all our children never forget that without the bravery of the men of 1914-1918 none of us would be present today to enjoy life.
Your children and grand children owe alot to the fallen - don't ever forget all faiths & cultures died for us all at the blow of a whistle.
Question for all, Which battalion of the 36th Ulster div. wore the badge UVF. I am really interested in knowing this as I was shown one tonight in the pub. Thanks.
orite pal, i think it could be the 12th battalion, but im not positive pal. Alot of the battalions wore Royal Irish Rifles badges except for the 14th battalion YCV what ma great grandad was in.
