Could you back up into time machine on an external hard drive and then put the new hdd in and take the back up from time machine and put it on, instead of buying an enclosure.
not sure on this....i wouldn't think so, it doesn't on almost any other laptop out there - dunno what apple's policy is - i really never buy extended warranties anyway though. i think i may have brought the macbook in for a keyboard/screen repair while i had the new hard drive and ram in though...so this probably doesnt void anything
I THINK YOU need to use a cloner, i use carbon copy cloner. copy sometimes does not get all files.

What I did was put the new hdd in an enclosure and use carbon copy cloner to copy old hdd to new one and put the new hdd in the MacBook
