Blu-ray blows DVD out of the water in terms of video and especially audio. Hell, Laserdiscs had better sound quality than DVD. There's no question about it.

Bluray offers better sound and picture. From someone who owns over 250 blurays and a 3dtv I can tell you I see a massive difference. Don't believe me? Watch these movies in bluray and dvd: The Dark Knight, 300, Star Wars, Gladiator. Easily the biggest difference. And the price of blurays is going down. Now they are only about 3-5 dollars more than a dvd (new release). Its the 3D blurays that cost an arm and a leg.

if you ever want to compare bluray to dvd, go and get inception on both( in some countries they offer a "triple play" set which includes both) you will see a huge difference in quality.

Wtf is this conversation about.. Blu-ray is better then DVD, you can store +-25 GB of data on a typical Blu-ray disc, and on typical DVD's +- 4,6 GB. So in short, the more storage capacity, the more frames you can store on it.

You can store a 10 second clip with the same quality on a DVD and a Blu-ray disc, the difference is, you can store longer movies in a higher quality on Blu-rays.

Same goes for DVD vs CD.

I advise you inform yourselves on wikipedia before posting.

@haloreach7 It's not that it looks better, but more or less it's the fact that Blu-Ray has a much larger capacity.

Blu-Ray players have HDMI output which leaves the misconception that the Blu-Ray format is of higher quality. If there were DVD players with component and HDMI output the quality would be exactly the same.

The difference is in order to have a 1080p movie on DVD you would need 2-3 DVD's versus just one single Blu-Ray.
