The printer can handle both synthetics and naturals such as cotton. The inks that you decide to load in the printer will determine the type of fabric you can print on.

Dispersed dyes (standard with the printer) are used for polyester

Textile pigments will work well on cotton.

It's actually both... this is direct ink jet dye sublimation. The dye sublimation inks are ink jetted directly to the fabric and then cured in the attached dye sublimation curing unit.
