@Boganator4 I'm impressed, man! But unfortunately I'm perrty damn sure it's a lefty placid blue stratocaster with a maple fretboard. Mustangs usually don't have that smaller headstock, and if you look at the body closely, it ain't no mustang.
This kid's awesome. The only kid my age who plays guitar like me. With soul and feeling (pheeling). I'm not egoccentric but it's funny all the kids on here who think that shreddding automatically makes you good.
you need to dig deep into ur soul to pull out all the down things in ur life and express them musically to have a good feel for the blues, thats y miley cyrus will never translate to the blues, even if she tried. but some kid who is feelin down cuz some dude stole hislunch money and his girl, can go home and express that thought musically. that is the blues
thats a real guitar player. this guy should be more famous than the jonas brothers but because the music industry is so screwed up, thats not the case
DAMN, he is gettin better & better!!!!!!!!!! Think I very may well put it on myspace!!! Saw this kid in peson a couple years ago and he is finally starting to OWN the stage. Teach it to him................ he's gotta KNOW he has to OWN it!!!!!!!!!! Personality is everything!!!! Yes, he is young, but they have to know it, YOUNG!!! Keep strong Matthew!! You are excellent!!! On stage Personality son........that's the ticket!!! You are great!!!!!!!!!! Great teacher, I might add!!!!
Awesome work Matt. Enjoy this gift and keep up the dedication. You will be truly great one day. I look forward to hearing more of your passion for the blues.
Dude. awesomeness. i know this kid. hell i was in casey's basement during their practice. even tho casey is a cynical homo. keep it up matt dude u rock.
After I played with the Teeny Tucker Band at the NBTB fest on 7/19/08, I noticed Matthew enter the artists' tent, and got the feeling that he was something special. Later someone told me about him. I've listened to blues for MANY years, have seen many great musicians, played in great bands, and even backed Tommy Castro, Magic Dick, and Jason Ricci at the Heritage Blues Festival jam. I expected great playing for a youngster, not great playing for an adult. This young man has it all figured out!
Albert Collins must have the biggest grin in the Universe on his face right now.
I've watched this for what might be the 100th time, and I'm thrilled that YT has encoded it in "HQ." Video and audio are vastly improved.
Matt, get a camera, talk your Dad into running it, and get yourself on here and join our music community. You can rip every one of us to shreds! And we'll love it!
There are guitar players with technical skill. There are guitar players with talent. Then there a guitar players like Stevie Ray Vaughan, who go beyond skill and talent and live it. As far as I am concerned, Matthew is there.
wow awsome, i wish i could play any insturment but sadly i cannot even if i could i prob would never make it to where your going matt, i hope ta see ya play some time kid!!
I saw Matthew perform in Bloomington with CoCo Montoya this last weekend and that boy is absolutely amazing! And I loved it because he is such a humble kid. Amazing talent!
you kidding? i was there too. hes a good friend of mine. off topic, i know, but what did you think of that new orleans bluegrass band that played after him?
Its so good to see a new clip. we really enjoy watching you Matthew. we can only hope to see more of you here in Cleveland(rock&roll capital. love it, keep jamming!!!! you really have something speical.
I was there when this was recorded. This kid is the real deal. The person singing, talking and playing with Mathew was none other than Ronnie Baker Brooks. (not Tommy Castro as others have said) He is a legend and Mat stood up and played riff to riff with him, it was sooooooo cool and amazing. You have just seen the next Joe Bonamassa. Watch Brook's face as he watches Mats playing, even Brooks is impressed. Look for another post after the next concert March 29th.
un-be-lieve-a-ble ... Really good! Matthew Curry for 12 y.o is really a great guitarist, the last time i heard such talent was a guy called Davy Johnston ..& he was 16yr. at the time..tho he's not done to badly He's been playin with some guy calld.. Elton John for bout 25/30yrs so you never can tell
Matthew Curry for 12 y.o is really a greatt guitarist, it is indeed a very beautiful solo and this song is vry good, i like listen the american blues, Otis Redding, and others good singers.
Yes, Matthew Curry 12 Year old is really great guitarist.
*****5 Stars*****
And Thanks Ethan for shared this very beautiful video.
I was there and saw the show....absolutely awesome...you can teach technique but you've either got soul or you don't....this kid definately has it...a force to be reckoned with. Like Ronnie said...Albert would sure be proud!! Use your blessings and your gift Matthew...can't wait to see you again!!
I WISH I could be so lucky, Cindy! Matthew truly has a gift. You don't "learn" what he has, you just cultivate it and grow with it. To see him in person would, I'm sure, completely blow me away.
But didn't it totally suck when the power went off? YAK!!!!! They were just really starting to cook!!
Yes, that was total bummer and abrupt end to a powerful performance...but still thankful for the experience of Matthew, Ronnie and Tommy (AND Deanna and Magic Dick) and unforgettable night for sure!! THanks.
You've got it, Andy. Every bit of it. And I believe that. Matthew just has the edge. He started playing acoustic when he was 6, was into blues before he was 9, and has been playing on stage, face to face with some of the greats, for a couple of years. Given that same exposure, you'd learn so much so fast it'd be frightening, just like he has.
Gawd! If the two of you could get together it'd be lethal!
Glad you finally got to see it, Ethan. I warned you. LOL
I've watched it at least a dozen times, and it blows me away every time. That lead between 4 and 6 minutes makes me feel like I'm seeing Albert Collins reborn, and the dual lead with Tommy at the end is one of most incredible things I've EVER seen. It's unreal...
As one commentator said, "At about the 6 minute mark, you realize you are seeing the future of the Blues!"
Between Matthew and Andy, I feel like we ARE seeing it.
No doubt! And as with you, nephew, he's just getting started. I cracked up when Tommy said, "He's only 12. Just wait til he gets his hot strokes." He summed it up SO perfectly.
What you guys have at 12 is something many adults only dream of having. Grow with it and follow it, and as Tommy added, "When you get rich and famous, don't forget about us, right."
Wow Matthew! you gave me goosebumps! Great job! I've had the privelage to meet you a few times at Morningwood Studios and I must say that I'm impressed not only with your abilities and fell for the music, but you are able to play right along with the best and not get a big head about it. You are so humble and gracious and that is one of the best things about you. Keep at it, you are great!

theoak84 3 years ago 7
I gotta agree with that theoak84, but music nowadays doesn't stand out like it used to.
He's going to be the best when the time comes but like I said he won't stand out enough for EVERYONE to take notice.
Hendrix had everyones attention back then, but music has so many more genres that people won't take notice of this kids talent.
