  • 8:15... I dunno why, but my heart always leaps right here.

  • Favourite Instrumental Son ... EVER

  • Possibly my favourite song ever.

  • Fucking. Perfect.

  • 03:51 Jaivas from Chile !

  • LaBrie actually sounded pretty good here

  • @goodygoody23 LIKE times 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

  • 1:15 through 1:30 = epic

  • john petrucci's tchnique is flawless...

  • Venezuelan influence 3:35, great.

  • WE WANT THIS VOLUME FOR BASSGUITAR !!!

  • DT is not God! they are jut very very very very very very FUCKING GOOD!!!

  • holy shit, john petrucci is the GUITAR GOD

  • @Neimoser He is Jesus *bowing*

  • @Krist1qn i think god is better than jesus =) by the way, mike portnoy is jesus....

  • Los amo!!!! <3.<3

  • Also, 17 people are overshadowed by John Myung.

  • They are perfect performers. There's something wrong with the tempo in this one though. They're actually playing this even faster than they did in the studio.

  • I wanna hear Dream Theater do a song with either Russell Allen or Ripper Owens

  • the first dt song i heard - not a bad way to begin

  • tightest band of all time.

  • perfection.

    i love dream theater. <3

  • \m/( ',,,' )\m/

  • this song should be on guitarhero

no one could ever beat it lol

  • AWESOME SONG! Isn't this when they preformed in Tokyo? (don't remember what year xD )

  • live at budokan

  • I don't think you can really compare it to that song. I just had a listen, and it sounded much different and it was only a 4 minute song.

I don't think you can really compare songs like that.. under what basis can we really compare two songs?

  • Well I was stating that one other person compared it to In Flames Man Made God on their video comment section.

Stream of Conciousness makes me tap my feet but it gets boring after awhile, plus I dont see anything I havent heard before whereas Man Made God still makes me feel really active, like I have do something important and do it well. It pumps me up. Maybe the fact that is much faster has a lot to do with it.

They are good, but not inovative enough to catch my eye.

  • @Tik075 This is one album..?

  • @Tik075 LOL who said it had to be metal?

  • äxi is gay

  • check out 3: 40

  • A little faster, than it should be.

  • 3 seconds faster.

special thanx to the uploader.... DT rules... what can i say...???

  • Dumbass

  • prob my favorite DT song

  • sensacional, extraordinário.... isso sim é uma banda de musica completa

  • not bad! (first time hearing it)

  • I feel blessed to have these musicians around in my lifetime.

  • Waltz dance at 8:15 to 9:52...

    hehehe... :D

  • Dream Theater Live in Portugal 18 june already got my ticket

  • Me too!!

  • wow man i cant go because i have graduation tomorrow and Lisbon is kinda faraway from viseu :P

  • can people stop arguing like wankers over what dream theater songs they think are good n bad and just enjoy the fukin song

  • fucking awesome performers

  • portnoy looks like a giant hippie

  • I love when I hear professional musicians making mistakes, making me realise that they're not robots! Dream theater isn't always right on and tight and it makes me happy in a wierd way. I love them to death though!

  • with systematic Chaos they took the thing in a all new level, all the songs are amazing, you can also check the lyrics of In Thea Presence Of The Enemy pt1&pt2 in all the cd there is a story line between the songs, talks about God too......man its like a ancient greek rhapsody :D, i find it rly interesting myself

  • You do realise that Dream Theater have been doing storylines in their music way before Systematic Chaos? Go listen to Scenes From a Memory, Six Degrees and Octavarium.

  • well i am new in dream theater actualy i met them when me and my band covered the Prophets of War in my school, preety hard drum riff....... but after falling in love with that song i started to listen most of their songs, and i got the Live In Budokan, and for me the BEST OF THEIR song is IN THE NAME OF GOD....man EPIC WITH mind bLOWing solo from Petrucci in the end

  • Dream Theater will be masters forever!! Shet I missed watching this! I need a new DVD of this!! T.T

  • real musicians

  • oh ma goodness!!! geez these guys are good all the time, they sound flawless live...

  • MASTERPIECE!

  • 10:11 i like jordan

  • Espectacular!

    Simplemente brillante, gran tema!

    5*!

  • petrucci io ti amo

  • this song is one of my favs <3

  • First, the question is not how complicated songs, but do "something new" and that I do not see in most bands today, Iron Maiden for example will only copy songs copy of the copy, finally.

Second question is that Metallica song from start to finish.

As I said, I like to Dream Theater, but I think the process of their creativity is limited, the apex of creativity is the album Scenes from a Memory, this is a really great album.

  • Not really.. Train of Thought was the best album..

8:40-8:50 it's an original composition by jordan rudess.. so its not been copied on other bands.. lol

  • I was about to agree with you. But then I realized their creativity apex was with the following album, Six Degrees of Inner Turbolence. After that, there are some sprites of creativity here and there with Train of Though Octavarium . Anyways, they can't have creativity for ever so I just accept it.

It's like asking Michael Jackson to do again a new Thriller album or Dangerous. Such things can't get repeated :)

  • they will inialate mettalica

  • Lack of creativity? WHAT?

  • Falling Into Infinity was probably the least-creative album they put out. I blame Derek and their producer at the time, even the rest of the band already admitted they didn't like him and ask them to rewrite songs.

  • "I think they are a lack of creativity"

    what do you mean??

don't say you can make a more complicated song..

    that's really funny dude..

    -1 gg....

  • lol ? Falling into infinity? its their worst album even tho its fucking great :p

  • You may have said that before Systematic Chaos came out, but after that album was released Falling into infinity is looking pretty good. And systematic chaos is looking pretty good compared to Black clouds and silver linings.

  • Systematic chaos was amazing

  • uh.....huh.

    Well to each his own.

  • Comment removed

  • You fucking lie. Black Clouds and Silver Linings is a WAY better album than Systematic Chaos. It contains some of Dream Theaters best material, and I say that as no exaggeration, because I know people say that about EVERY new release from a band. They capture the essence and theme of the album perfectly in every song, whereas Systematic Chaos was a failed attempt to sound like harder metal.

  • I don't lie, I listen. Can you honestly tell me that "A Nightmare to Remember" and "Rite of Passage" are even remotely good songs? Oh my god they made me throw up in my mouth hearing them. "Count of Tuscany" was pretty good. But then, even systematic chaos had SOME songs that I liked, such as "Ministry of Lost Souls." Having a good song or two doesn't mean the album isn't mostly trash, especially compared to Images and Words.

I loved Octavarium from the start, btw.

  • Saying that ANY Dream Theater song isn't 'remotely good' is wrong, but ANtR is amongst DT's best songs. Take another listen to the second movement, in the hospital. Absolute. Perfection.

That aside, ARoP is pretty poor compared to the rest of the album. Wither is a great ballad, TSF closes the 12-SS brilliantly, and TBoT is an utterly beautiful piece. TCoT is both ways for me. The 'Metallica' section sucks, and the 'Pink Floyd' section onwards is a perfect closer.

  • I listened to it. And I felt part of me dying realizing how low DT are stooping. A nightmare to remember and a rite of passage are number 1 and 2 WORST songs I've ever heard by DT, and I've heard essentially all of their work. Without a doubt, utter trash.

I wish they would have just released Wither and Count of Tuscany on another album instead of lumping them together with the rest of this garbage.

  • Haha think what you want. Doesn't make te songs any less great, I don't think you have the right to call a song utter trash. But I guess everyone's entitles to their opinion; no matter how narrow minded it may be. Maybe if you listen to the album again you'll change your mind. And I bet if you saw them play it live you would like it; I've seen DT's live performances change people's minds about the band completely ( in a good way .)

  • I absolutely LOVE DT, I saw them live last year at the infamous show where petrucci's guitar died and the curtan fell on akerfeldt!

I'm wouldn't call my musical tastes narrow minded, I say I was focused on different aspects of music. DT has such potential but they have been releasing some seriously bad stuff recently.

  • Yeah perhaps narrow-minded was the right word. I just get a little frustrated when I hear people criticizing DT's music, because I, personally think they're just taking their music in a new direction and haven't gotten there yet. It's a different stage in thei career and they're experimenting. The one thing I really love about them, is you know its stil Dream Theater. Not like alot of bands I listen to who have changed their music completely just to make it more mainstream and make more money.

  • Experimenting is the key. I think bands should care about money the least, they should make music for themselves and not to get as much fans as possible. If they play the music which they love and play for themselves and they get fans for playing that music - it's one of the best things that can happen to a musician.

for the mainstream change - Metallica :/

  • Yeah, although I did like their new album compared to St. Anger. I think it was great compared to the slump they were in.

  • it reminds me a bit of older metallica songs....in the mood of something like Orion but better....

  • they will eat metallica for breakfast!!! :D

  • yeah the beginning definitely sounds like orion you're right.

  • Best Progressive Piece

  • And what will you say to, f.e. Dance of Eternity? ;)

  • All i can say is AWEEEEE SOOMMMEEEE......

  • I think the real problem is...there is no vocallist that can keep up with the rest of Dream Theather! This song is utterly epic, yet in the grand scheme of things, it is just a breather session for the singer. I sincerely cannot think of a single singer that will not be overshaddowed by these guys.

  • And that's why I wish James wasn't in the band and it was just this 24/7

  • Portnoy is a fantastic drummer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Love this song.. but I think its unfare for Labrie to no be on stage.

  • I don't know, if I had to sing in that vocal range 3 hours a night I'd be praying for the long instrumental sections.

  • I'd have to disagree. Musicians of DT's caliber can have any vocalist they want. They clearly see something suitable in James LaBrie.

The only fair evaluation of him is IaW and Awake anyway.

  • The Best Instrumental of Dream Theater but in this Version the Guitar is not loud enough..

  • Yeah the guitar was a mixed a bit low for most of the DVD.

  • i love it :D and i'm a girl. my bf got me into loving dream theater

  • that's because he and Myung are autistic. Portnoy rules

  • ya XD

    he is a bully! XD

  • Best song in ToT. Indredible.

  • i just love rudess' work on this song

    it makes it so great

and all of the band members are gods with their instruments

    dream theater ftw

  • lol

  • JORDA RUDESS FTW!!!

  • very beautiful this song!!!

  • My friend just told me to listen to these guys, and Im normally a jazz music person, but these guys are really good. This song is actually in 5/4 time, which is awesome for a group like this.

  • hahahha.... listen to the album "Scenes from a memory"... this is music...

  • they're awesome aren't they ;-)

  • It's mostly in 5/4 but they rotate time signatures from bar to bar alot.

  • same here it is awesome. there aren't many jazz or avante-garde musicians around here so i mainly work work with dream theater fans lol same thing i just have to throw some gain on my amp

  • awesome guitar, and a huge freakin drum set

  • Unbelievable! So amazing!!

  • excelente :)

  • God... Everytime I try to play this song, the blazing solo in the middle just breaks my fingers

  • ya its unbelievable how petrucci does it...

but he is god so ... :D

  • Petrucci you are the best

  • Holy shit, that solo was BEAST

  • I love this song

  • amazing song!!!DT 4 LIFE!!!:D:D

  • Rudess' solo starting at 8:39 is one of his best, and up there with the best part of the song. The whole ending is just epic. Of course, Petrucci's solo is cream-my-pants worthy, and a little tiny bit that is often overlooked is Portnoy's drum fill at 6:12. Fucking awesome.

  • I <3 3:33 solo!!! ^^

    john iz a b3ast!!!! :D

  • 2:50-3:00 I always jizz myself

  • cool

  • Is it just me, or is Jordans keyboards way to low?

  • what do you mean by "low?"

  • haha at the guitar solo, portnoy has a faster rythm than in th original song, and petrucci has to follow so he speeds up the solo. That's real talent men !

  • realy??

i knew the song when up a lil fast

but i though they put like this cuz they wanted...

  • At about 3 minutes when the next melody is played you can hear Rudess playing faster than them as well. Sort of messes up the timing

  • wrong

  • Well, you proved me wrong there.

  • obviously you should study music some more before you say that

  • Has sort of an epic timeless feeling, very similar to Orion by Metallica i'd say

  • I think that feeing is even more similar to The Call of Ktulu from Metallica (The Call of Ktulu is Orion's father =D). I love it!

  • Really dont care.. the 3 song make me cry.. are hillarius TT

  • thanks man! i´ve been trying to make songs like this, but didn´t know how to describe the "feeling" i´m looking for :D now i know, thanks to you..

  • What's that song in the middle? Chewbacca?

  • This is way better than the album version, I have this version and the album version on my iPod and I always choose to listen to this version. To me the quality of this live recording on the cd is better than the version which they probably spent more time on in the studio. That is the Magic of Dream Theater.

  • shit, just listen to 'Fracture' by King Crimson. It is one of the most suspensful, terrifying, anticipating instrumentals i've ever been exposed to. It is based off of one rhythm as its foundation(a whole-tone rhythm by R. Fripp) However, it just keeps progressing. Truely amazing, and most of all, truely in a classical taste!

  • Mate... if they are MAYBE in guitar and NO vocally, then who YES?

  • maybe on guitar... really? REALLY?

  • guitar maybe?? HAHA .

John Petrucci is a beast on guitar, he kicks so much ass

  • Dream Theater is the best thing to happen to music in a long time.

  • it's awsome they're playing fast than the original, and the guitar solo also is faster ha ha

  • it was pretty fast before they sped it up xD
